We reported before that Sony was planning to shut down two online game servers and maybe more for PSP and PS2 games. Well as it turns out that is only true for Europe and not the United States. SCEA or Sony Computer Entertainment America stated that they have not made any plans to shut down any game servers as of yet but said that eventually certain older games’ servers will be shut down because of inactivity . No announcements have been made for other regions, just Europe and the U.S.

Couldn’t just they just reduce the server count and limit the number of players if there’s less demand? I doubt such a big company is really losing a lot of money on the power bill if they had one server for each game.

maybe they are using the servers for more useful services such as the psn store or the online capabilities of the ps3
