Soul Calibur requires firmware 5.55

This news came in from a source that wishes to remain anonymous, according to this individual’s email there are already reports that the apparent to block Custom Firmware from having games run from memory sticks has already been broken.

For example the recent , reportedly wasn’t working on Custom Firmware and required firmware 5.55 which blocked it. However its now working on all recent custom firmwares with the help of a simple PPF-O-MATIC patch and a few HEX edits. If you search youtube there is already video proof this..

If this is true, (which it seems to be) its not too good for Sony seeing that their latest Anti custom firmware protection has already been busted so quickly. Hmmm.

G.I. Joe Requires Firmware 5.55

Some news via the Dark_AleX forums as users have discovered that G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, needs firmware 5.55 in order to run and is included on the disk. While hasn’t been released yet (if ever) via the network update. Its unknown what changes are present in this firmware. But its not the first time we have seen Firmware 5.55. We posted about this back in July: PSP firmware 5.55 Spotted in Japan
Where Soul Calibur Broken Distiny demo units were seen running 5.55.

I’m positive in time this will be hacked or emulated just like all the other PSP firmwares.

Here’s some new screenshots for you of SoulCalibur: Broken Destiny from Namco Bandai. SoulCalibur’s début on the PSP is looking stunning, good to see they are using the PSP’s graphic capabilities to the maximum. With Tekken 6 also on the way the shortage of new fighter’s for the PSP is about end.

Game director Noriyuki Hiyama talks a little about the games new characters, multiplayer and the possibility of secret content.

While Namco is remaining relatively tight-lipped on specifics for the time being, I fired off a few questions to Director Noriyuki Hiyama (Unfortunately we were shooting in a loud room speaking through a translator, but I think you’ll get the point) about new characters, multiplayer and the possibility of secret content.
