Custom Firmware 5.50 GEN-D Released.

Custom Firmware 5.50 GEN-D has just been released, the release that should have been the cursed 5.50 GEN-C release. This custom firmware now lets users play back up UMD’s that require firmware 5.55 or 6.00 without patching the eboot.

So you save yourself a few steps in playing 5.55+ games. No more extracting the games eboot, using game decrypter to patch the eboot. Then finally re-building the ISO. None of that is needed anymore, thanks to GENyUS

Remember this is for PSP-1000’s, PSP-2000 (Pre TA-88v3) and NOT PSP-3000’s

Custom Firmware 5.50 GEN-D Features:

All features of 5.50GEN-B2 are available.

Compatibility with games requiring firmware 5.51 with no additional handling (now, you don’t need Game Decrypter)

Compatibility with most of games normally protected and refusing to be ran on a Custom Firmware (Full Metal Alchemist, Soul Calibur, etc). Yoshihiro has created a system to run them and he succeed to make this system more stable and it’s now compatible with all PSP, unlike the 5.50 GEN-C.

Possibility to connect at the Playstation Store via MEDIAGO, to retrieve game and goodies without having to install Fake USB or other complicated stuff.

Support for 480×272 AVC video playback.

Ok installed and tested, my plug-ins all seem to work. RemoteJoy lite .19, Game Catagores v4, Ultimate VSH. And emulators, PSX and iso seems to run fine.

While everyone is waiting for Custom Firmware 5.50 GEN-D to release in *hopefully* 1 hour, PSPGen have posted a new video showing us a new feature they have added to 5.50 GEN-D. 480x272 res AVC video support. Yoshihiro demonstrates this in the above video. However this new video support comes at a cost. Since its a last minute correction to the new 5.50 GEN-D firmware. It might not be released today, since it would require further testing.

While AVC support is great, DivX or Xvid support would really make my day.

Custom Firmware 5.50 GEN-D is coming tomorrow according to PSPGEN.com’s post just made about 15 minutes ago. They have commented that all the bugs present in the cursed 5.50 GEN-C release have been fixed. And it can play firmware 5.55, 6.00 and 6.10 games work without any eboot patching with Game Encrypter needed. Known bugs :

• IR Shell can’t no longer launch ISOs, but a patch is ready and will be released as soon as possible
• Video playback 480x272 in trouble but a fix is being studied
• Option to accelerate the reading of MS is going to be ported to 5.50GEN

If you get a blackscreen when you start the installer, that’s because you are in 5.50 GEN-B(1) and not in 5.50 GEN-B2. So update to B2, and install the custom firmware 5.50 GEN-D.

Remember last weeks big news item? Freeplay’s video of the PSP Go displaying Hello World? This was achieved through an undiscovered save game data exploit. The exploit that uses an “unknown” Games save data to exploit the system and enable user mode kernels to run. Well its been confirmed legitimate and has been tested by MaGiXien of PSPGen. MaGiXien is the Frenchman behind the GEN Custom Firmwares and PSPGen.com so we can take it from him its 100% legit. Not that I doubted FreePlay, but some of you did.

So to those our there that were still non believers, it is safe to say that. It is real, it works on not only the PSP Go, but all PSP systems and on all current PSP Firmwares.

MaGiXien has also reiterated, that this hack or exploit doesn’t allow the use of a homebrew enabler aka HEN to load any kind of temporary custom firmware on the PSP Go. I’m hopping that it will at least lead to some type of eloader.A way to loading homebrew games, applications and emulators.

So now that MaGiXien has a copy of FreePlay’s Hello World PSP Save game exploit, does this mean were likely to a release some time soon…? That’s unknown but we think FreePlay has given specific instructions to PSPGen to try it and test it. Prove its not fake. But not to use it or release it. Hmmm Perhaps FreePlay is waiting for a time to release his save data hack? Maybe when Sony discovers it and releases Firmware 6.20?

PSP Firmware 6.00 Released.

Custom Firmware 5.03 GEN-A on its way...

EDIT: CFW 5.03 GEN-A is out !!, now that didn’t take long did it. Get it here.

PSPGen have posted a FAQ for their soon to be released Custom Firmware 5.03 GEN-A for Hen, which by the way was meant to be released about an hour ago…. I guess we will see it today? (6th of June) They have commented that its not fake, will not cause a brick and that installation is easy. You just select what PSP model you have either a PSP-2000 or PSP-3000 and the installer takes care of the rest.

We hope PSPGen can at least release this today, as I’m sure we’re all growing tired of seeing these hyped up releases only to be followed by delays.
