We were unable to upload our previous version, the 5.02HEN-A, because it used a loophole that should not be revealed publicly. In addition, the previous version used the exploit found in the game GripShift and therefore could not serve everyone.

In recent days, the CFE has occurred but it is not compatible with the PSP-3000, which resulted in defeating a number of new users. Moreover, the lack of appreciation for the use of certain of our PRX Custom Firmware 5.02Gen has shown that the creators had no respect for us.

Against this background, we decided not to waste time trying to get this line of thanks and upload our own Custom Firmware 5.03GEN for HEN-A which is an update of the Custom Firmware 5.02 HEN-A-that our former developer, who unfortunately left the scene we had left (Reminder: Custom Firmware 5.02HEN-A dated 14 January 2009 and therefore prior to CFE).

Our new developer is called code GENyUS and does not officially be known because he does not want to be in the spotlight. He believes that everyone in his place, and a flurry of releases, questions and various existential dramas not interested. Thus, we will ensure that party (MaGiXieN specifically), while he will do whatever it seemed good to the scene ahead. He therefore resumed the work of Miriam and managed to find other ways to move forward. Note that the Custom Firmware 5.03GEN for HEN-A uses a completely original installation in the field but you will find at the public release. Note also that this CF5.03GEN-A is just the beginning …

PSP-3000 TA-090v3 spotted?

Circulating the net are some photos of what looks to be a new PSP motherboard from a PSP-3000. While its marked as a TA-090 is not known what version it maybe. Looks to be a TA-090v3. TA-090v1 is in current models. If its hackable or not is also unknown.

They just to run PSPident on this motherboard now….

You won't be loading UMD ISO's

Here’s what davee posted today on the M for Mature forums

I assure you I have absolutely no intention of adding ISO/CSO loading at any stage of HEN. HEN will have next to no features of M33 except patching the firmware for homebrew. My initial idea was to load the M33 firmware and modify but I couldn’t get into contact with M33 for permissions to use their modules as of such I am using my own reverses.

To All:

To everyone begging their asses off for ISO support you can easily forget it. Even if I was to add it, about 50% of M33 is for ISO support and frankly I cannot be assed reversing that just to feed the pirates and the minority who actually use it for personal backups. I also believe you people are being incredibly ungrateful about there being no ISO support. For one, I have a homebrew enabled PSP 1000, I have no 2000 or a 3000. I should be technically studying for my exams but I still take the time to create this HEN for you folks. I think you need to take your time and realise what you’re saying.

We agree that ISO support will just feed the pirates out there. Homebrew support on a PSP-3000 will be great!. Although it is nice to convert that UMD we brought into a CSO/ISO for faster load times off the memory stick…That’s an added bonus but that leads to piracy and its killing the PSP. Well that and used games which are just as bad if not equal in the eyes of game developers.

PSP-3000 HEN coming soon!

Things are indeed heating up on the homebrew scene. Looks like homebrew is coming to that PSP-3000 of yours. Davee has reported he has a working Kernel exploit on the way for the PSP-3000 / Ta88v3 Motherboards that will enable homebrew. Rather than rephrase what davee has posted, I’ll just quote it

HEN will be a stripped down enabler lacking many features of M33 custom firmware. It’ll allow the bootup of homebrew regardless but may be restrictive to certain applications (in cases where it will not boot at all). However, applications will be released to enhance the HEN such as the loading of M33 custom firmware when I get permission to use the modules.

As another note, the conditions of the TIFF exploit as very unstable (as you might have noticed) and flashing of modules to flash0 is improbable and will load off the memorystick. An eboot will be supplied to countervent this and will flash the modules in a more stable enviroment.

Release is currently unconfirmed but will be before Tuesday.

The PSP-3000 TIFF Exploit. Proof it works....

True to his word MaTiAz has released Version 2 of his Hello World TIFF Exploit. This version works on PSP Slim units and we have reports from users that it even works on the PSP-3000! That’s a added bonus. As for the “bit of awesomeness” promised we have to wait just a little longer for that.

MaTiAz’s notes:

Just copy the files to the memory stick root, disconnect USB and go to photo menu. Don’t dismiss the exploit even if it doesn’t work on the first time, it’s *very* unstable. You might get it working on the first time, but you might as well have to try it 20 times!

The h.bin is loaded to 0×08800000, and the text address of paf.prx is passed in $a0 to the binary code. You can then trick out function imports, like for example sceDisplayWaitVblankStart: sceDisplayWaitVblankStart = (void*)(paf_addr+0×15F068);

Instructions:
1. Copy either slim.tiff or phat.tiff to /PSP/PHOTO/ folder on the memory stick, depending on
your PSP model. Do NOT copy both!
2. Copy h.bin to the root of the memory stick.

Also its reported to be working on the PSP-3000 (Ta88v3) Try the following: (Thanks to n00b81 for the tip!)

From p2s2p: The interesting thing is, they didn’t think it would work for 3000s but it does! Here is what you have to do…follow the same instructions for the slim, but then throw in about 5 or 8 other pics in your photo folder, and when the thumbnails are loading, you have to scroll up and down, and then the PoC should boot up. You need at least 5.02 on a 3000 to work this.

PSP firmware 5.03 running the TIFF Exploit!

The day many PSP owners have been waiting for is coming, as PSP homebrew developer MaTiAz has released a TIFF-based exploit in the form of a “Hello World,” proof of concept for PSP Firmware 5.03. So the idea of running homebrew on TA88v3 / PSP-3000 is rapidly approaching! (This is no late April fools joke)

*Update* 14-April: Version 2 has been released. Works on the Slim & PSP-3000. -> Hello World TIFF Exploit Version 2

The exploit is run in the PSP’s photo menu and takes advantage of a vulnerability found in the TIFF image library. Just think in the old early days of the PSP scene when using software downgrades and GTA: LCS TIFF exploits etc was the way to go.

This current version is only for PSP-1000 (Fat) units at this stage. But don’t fret a separate release is being prepared by MaTiAz for Slim models. Both the the PSP-2000 and PSP-3000 (Ta88v3).

MaTiAZ also commented that “a bit of awesomeness” is due out soon. We’ll keep you updated on this. Looks like we’ll all soon have hombrew access again on Firmware 5.03.

The days of TIFF based exploits aren’t long gone, at least not yet
Here’s the third TIFF exploit for the PSP, enjoy.

As weird as it sounds, even Hannah Montanna has her own PSP pack coming out. It comes with a Purple PSP, a Hannah Montanna game, a UMD of some episodes of the series, and a 2GB memory stick. So if you have a little sister, why not blow her mind and get this for her? It’s due for release sometime July.

R-Type clone on the PSP-3000

MaTiaZ and Freeplay released another homebrew game for the PSP-3000. This time bringing us a nice side scrolling shoot-em up R-Type clone. This homebrew game requires a USA copy of Gripshift and a PSP-3000 with firmware 5.02 or less! (Not to mention some patience!)

Remember the video we posted about a working PSP-3000 hack using gripshift? The hack creator MaGiXien answered some questions on just why the Hen PSP-3000 Hack isn’t online yet. And when we are likely to see a PSP-3000 Hack. Here’s what MaGiXien from PSPGen.com had to say:

You all have in mind our video showing a PSP 3000 able to run homebrews and ISOs. It seems that some people still don’t understand why this HEN is not online. Explanation.

Since the official firmware 5.03 was released, the Gripshift exploit has been patched. This has allowed for confusion to creep in some people’s head and we have seen a few posts demanding the release of Miriam’s HEN (Homebrew Enabler). Some very pushy, others less, all this post have this in common: the mix-up between the Gripshift exploit and the exploit allowing access to the Kernel Mode, which is essential in order to install what you have seen on the video.

Here are the characteristics of Miriam’s 5.02Hen-A:

Compatible up to firmware 5.02
Compatible with all homebrews
Compatible with ISOs, PSX
Compatible with plug-ins (at least all those that I have tried)
Activation of a recovery mode allowing access to common features (such as switching X and O) not to flash0 (see below)
Since the HEN bypasses flash0 using the MS instead, it is impossible to touch it on the hardware, but it is possible on the MS.
The HEN remains as long as the console isn’t turned off or rebooted.
You must keep the Memory Stick containing the flash files in the MS slot or to copy the files on all used MSs.
You must have the Gripshift UMD in order to launch the HEN.
You cannot update your firmware beyond 5.02

Wrong. The Gripshft exploit was found and put online by Matiaz and exploited by Freeplay.
We only carried on with our adaptation for Gripshift Euro.
As soon as the exploit was online, it was granted that a new firmware would come and patch it. It has always been like this (GTA LCS, Lumines) and its release the day after we made our Binary Loader for Euro available is most likely a coincidence.

It’s good for the PSP3000, but is it the same for those with a PSP2000 TA88-v3?

Yes and no. In principal it is exactly the same than with the PSP3000 because their motherboard has the same characteristics. No difference there. Although, there is an alternative for those of you with some “DIY” skills. “All” you need to do is replace your motherboard with a TA88 (v1 or v2) found on the net.

What’s the difference between HEN and eLoader?

Hen is a Homebrew Enabler. It allows homebrews to launch whilst still on official firmware. Miriam’s used two exploits in order to be installed: Gripshift’s (public) and another one (private this time) that allows the activation of the kernel mode, therefore giving access to the flash’s functions.
The eLoader is a program that allows the launch of homebrews that only require user mode to start. It will be launched via the Gripshift exploit and will compatible with all PSPs with firmware up to 5.02. With the help of this program, it will be possible to launch all “user mode” homebrews already existing on PSPs that are not on Custom Firmware. This opens the door to a long list of games, emulators and other utilities. This eLoader will not allow you to launch programs requiring the Kernel Mode like flashers, utilities using the flash or the PSX emulator and ISO launcher. Its release was announced by Fanjita who didn’t specify on the date and asked not to be harassed about it to be able to work in peace.

Sony patched the exploit so give us the thing to launch the homebrews/ISOs (HEN)

This comment is the proof of a complete lack of knowledge on this subject. We’re going to try to be as clear as possible about this.

The Gripshift gamesave exploit allows the launch of a code that doesn’t have the Sony signature even if the PSP is still on Official Firmware. It is with this exploit that it is possible to launch homebrews via the binary loader for Euro or US and it is also it that will allow team Noobz’s future eLoader to launch, which itself will be used to launch homebrews in user mode (see above).
This exploit was patched in the firmware 5.03. As long as a PSP remains with a firmware prior to this one, this exploit will be active. So if you want to enjoy yourself do not update your PSP.
The exploit used by Miriam to access Kernel Mode and install the HEN (Homebrew Enabler) is an exploit qui can not be made public for various reasons. If the current version of the HEN was made available online, which is what a good few are expecting, the kernel exploit used to install it would be patched straight away, like the Gripshift’s one. This Kernel exploit is way more valuable than the Gripshift’s and if Sony was to patch it this could be the end to the VIP access that some underground devs, such as Dark_Alex, are using to hack the console.

Let’s be realistic, to this date about 30 million consoles support the installation of a Custom Firmware. So it’s easy to find a second hand one with that will satisfy your needs. PSP 3000 does not have any improvement sufficient to justify the loss of the exploit and it would be absurd to close the kernel’s door to the devs on the PSP3000, and even future one, for as long as another exploit has not been discovered, giving us an alternative. “Patience and time grant more than strength and anger.”

Why showing it if you don’t give it to us?

That’s the million dollar question. We sincerely only wanted to please you and give hope to those with a PSP3000. It is also clear that Miriam was happy with this success and wanting to share such an achievement is understandable, right? If you had succeeded in doing something everyone deemed impossible, wouldn’t you have wanted to let it know? We did.
Even if we technically couldn’t share with everyone, we wanted to inform you about it. This decision still doesn’t seem to us as a bad one even to this day, especially since it did bring-up the wonderful school ground atmosphere of the PSP underground world.

Your thing was a fake anyway, that’s why you’re not giving it to us.

This comment was made in the early days, especially on US forums. That’s because the ISO launched was similar to the UMD inserted in the UMD slot. The controversy that followed eventually was able to convince these “bad-speaking” people that this was true, otherwise it would never have happened. CQFD.

Will this HEN be released on day?

Possibly. The day it will be possible to put it online without compromising the access to Kernel Mode. Basically, the day we will be able to use another exploit than the one used by Miriam. As we already explained, no exploit is brought forward without another one being available so that we can carry on. Otherwise it would be suicidal, no?
So unless there isn’t any other… it should happen. When? Patience

Datel’s response:

Due to legal action by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe we are currently not able to fulfil orders for the Lite Blue Tool Battery. Any orders received for this product have not been processed and no charges have been made. We will inform customers about availability of this product when this situation has been resolved.

So why is Sony taking Datel to court? Purhaps Datel did infact crack the PSP-3000 and natually Sony wish to put a hold to it. Maybe copyright infringement? What do you think?
