Custom Firmware Enabler v2.1 - Added POPS support!

Custom Firmware Enabler v2.10 has been released, Xenogears and Becus25 have released an update to their Custom Firmware loader, version 2.1 now supports POPS (PSX Emulator). When used in conjunction with ChickHEN R2, 5.03 firmware TA-88v3 users can M33 load custom firmware without flashing.

How to enable POPS, First download Firmware 5.00. Start PSARDumper and decrypt the 5.00 Eboot. Now Copy the “pops.prx” and “popsman.prx” from the F0 directory to your memory stick under PSP/GAME/CFWEnabler/Pops. And then “Enable Pops Support” from CFWEnabler

Oh and the PSP-3000 is NOT supported, yet…..

Tips:

When selecting the “Option O button: flash M33 custom firmware files into the flash” It doesn’t overwrite any files when flashing, but if your PSP was to lose power when writing to the NAND flash it could equal a brick. So make sure you do this with the PSP powered via the power adaptor and a full battery charge just in case!

POPs support: “The PRX MD5 is different on each console” so that means you have to make your own “pops.prx” and “popsman.prx” using one some else made won’t work it seems. Its unique for each PSP….

ChickHEN Mod - Load ChickHEN R2 smoother.

PSP Developer m0skit0 has release a mod for ChickHEN R2 that will enable ChickHEN to load much smoother. This will help users that are having trouble to getting chickHEN to load up after many attempts. This should reduce the amount of attempts needed to get it to load up.

To install the program:

1. Power on the PSP
2. Connect to the PC via USB.
3. Open the folder of the PSP and copy the download (in the root of the MS)
4. Decompress ChickHEN Mod.zip. Answer “Yes” to all replacements.
5. Now we do a safe extraction of the PSP and switch to PSP now
6. Press O to cancel USB connection
7. Go to Photos, down to Memory Stick and press X
8. Wait for the egg image to load in the ChickHEN Mod square.
9. When it’s loaded press X (no need for timing here)
10. DO NOTHING MORE, JUST WAIT

If you are successful, you’ll see the green light flashing and it will reboot in the ChickHEN environment. After that, you can now enable the CFW Enabler v1.0. If it doesn’t work, just reset your PSP and go back to step 7.

Custom Firmware on your TA-88v3 (PSP-2000 only!)

Fancy a bit of custom firmware on that PSP-2000 TA-88v3 motherboard? Well you can now as Xenogears and Becus25 of the Dark-Alex forums have released a M33 custom firmware enabler.

So what does it do? Custom Firmware Enabler v1.0 Temporary Loads M33 custom firmware via ChickHEN R2 to your PSP’s RAM, allowing many of the M33 CFW features to be used, however not all (for example play PSX games) Yes ISO and CSO files will run…..

This works on Ta-88v3’s and other motherboards. But NOT PSP-3000’s so please don’t try or you’ll brick your PSP.

Here’s the release notes from Xenogears and Becus25 (Translated from Spanish, so there are some errors)

What is?
A program that activates the functions of the M33 custom firmware using ChickHen.

What do I need?
- A PSP Slim (Slim only works with, regardless of the plate you have)
- Firmware version 5.03.
- ChickHen R2 (minimum)

Compatibility:
- The functions are the same with the 5.00 M33, all work except:
- Recovery (Se cree may be anticipated that an alternative power to set the homebrew CFW)
- Pops (PSX Games)

Installation:

- Copy the folder to your psp CFWEnabler in X: / PSP / GAME /

To be like this: X: / PSP / GAME / CFWEnabler / EBOOT.PBP

How to use:

Starts ChickHen from the picture section. Then start the homebrew called for CFW Loader ChickHEN.
The first time you need CFW to install modules into the flash memory with the option Circle (Do not override, simply add modules, it is a safe process.)
Then press X to start the CFW.
You are in a CFW!

FAQ:

- Can load isos? – Yes, yes you can.
- Do you like my PSP Slim is fucking plate? – Yes, it does not matter.
- Does my PSP3000? – No, not working, at least.
- Can you break my console? – It is true that he writes some files in internal memory, but does not overwrite anything, so this is not problematic.
- When you turn off the console I have to repeat the procedure? – Yes, you have to repeat it, but do not have Flash modules each time.

Finally we have Homebrew on the PSP-3000 or TA88v3 thanks to Davee and Team Typhoon. Here we bring you a small ChickHEN tutorial / guide on how to best set up ChickHEN in order to get it running and fast. Plus some recommend Homebrew Games and Emulators to get you started!

Here’s a quick run down of what we’re doing to need to get ChickHEN:

• A PSP-3000 or PSP-2000 with firmware 5.03 (This is imperative, you won’t get ChickHEN to ever load with out it!)
• The lastest ChickHEN release.
• And a lot of patience

Firstly make sure your PSP-3000 or TA88v3 PSP-2000 has PSP Firmware 5.03 installed. Check in your PSP XMB go to Settings/ System Settings / System infomation. If you don’t have PSP 5.03 installed download it here. Create a folder called UPDATE in PSP/GAME on your memory stick and place the eboot from the archive into the folder. Run the 5.03 Firmware update from GAME / Memory stick and you will have 5.03. The firmware required to run ChickHEN.

Now download the ChickHEN R2 release from here. Open the CHickHEN R2 archive and place the folder inside Slim with gif images into your PSP memory stick location like so PSP/PHOTO (later it will be PSP/PHOTO/ChickHEN). Now place the h.bin into the root of your memory stick pro duo. Where the folders PSP, MUSIC etc are located.

Ok next step place the memory stick into the PSP. We have found this step helps ChickHEN boot with less attempts, go your PSP XMB, to settings and Restore Default Settings. Your PSP will reset, now go back into settings and turn off UMD Auto-Start and UMD Cache. We found ChickHEN loads in 2-3 goes after doing this.

Now go into Photo / Memory Stick and ChickHEN. And wait, you will see five egg giff images, these will start to load thumbnails. Your PSP may freeze and reset. Just keep retrying and  ChickHEN R2 will load up….But if you see flashing colors, your PSP will reboot into ChickHEN your homebrew ready!

With ChickHEN R2 loaded now starts the fun part. (P.S You can put your PSP into standby now so you don’t have to go through the whole process again)

Recommended homebrew games and emulators for ChickHEN. As tested by us:

PSP-3000 Running Metal Slug GBA

PSP Emulators like UO gPSP Kai 3.3 and Capcom Play System 1 Emulator which gives you great classic games like Street Fighter II. And homebrew games like REminiscence (Flashback) and Tyrian Open.

Trouble shooting:

• Q: I can’t get ChickHEN to boot, It always freezes.
• A: Keep trying, make sure your PSP has firmware 5.03

• Q: How to I keep ChickHEN loaded?

ChickHEN - bugfix has been released!

Quick to fix yesterdays semi-disastrous chickHEN release, maibrithahn has released an unofficial ChickHEN Homebrew Enabler fixed h.bin. We have tested this and can report we have working homebrew on our PSP-3000 unit. So just like before depending on weather you have a PSP-1000 (fat) or PSP-2000 / PSP-3000 (slim) place the h.bin file in your MS root and the chickHEN folder with images in PSP/PHOTO on your memory stick pro duo. Now if you don’t have that folder PSP/PHOTO don’t panic just create it and place the folder in there.

For example if you have a PSP-3000 you would put the Slim ChickHEN folder in PSP/PHOTO so it looks like PSP/PHOTO/ChickHEN with the pretty egg gifs inside. (Sorry but we have to be crystal clear for some people it seems!)

Now making sure you have PSP Firmware 5.03 installed, don’t have PSP firmware 5.03? Get it here -> PSP Firmware 5.03

Ok now in the PSP XMB go to Photo’s  / Memory stick and then the chickHEN folder and wait! If it works you’ll see a few colours flash and then your PSP is rebooting itself loading up the chickHEN homebrew environment. Now you can go to Game in the XMB and load some homebrew!!. This time it will work!

ChickHEN for firmware 5.03. Enables homebrew on all PSP's

The day many PSP-3000 and TA88v3 owners have been waiting for has finally arrived as Davee has released chickHEN. Using the TIFF Exploit discovered earlier by MaTiAZ, Davee found a way to use that with his new Kernel exploit to allow homebrew on all PSP’s. That includes the previously thought unhackable TA88v3 Motherboard found in PSP-3000’s and some newer PSP-2000 units.

This exploit requires a PSP with firmware 5.03. If you have a version less you can upgrade to 5.03 using this update: PSP Firmware 5.03 If you have a PSP with 5.50 or updated to 5.50 unfortunatly your stuck at the moment intill a downgrade option can be found.

Edit: It seems this release is “brokHEN” – plagued by a bug as myself and others haven’t been able to get any homebrew to work. It reboots fine but no homebrew games work as it ends in the PSP freezing. (I tried this on my PSP-3000) Rumor has it that a fix will be released tomorrow? I’m sure davee is aware of this bug and will be onto it.

5.03 ChickHEN Homebrew Enabler – Team Typhoon (Article by Granite) So comes the release of the highly anticipated ChickHEN homebrew enabler by Team Typhoon. After 1800 Lines of code, 4 weeks of stressful developing and countless amounts of tests the dawn of a new homebrew era for all the 3000, 2000 and 1000 users is on the horizon. What was said to be impossible by many is now a reality, all styles homebrew are now running on the “unhackable” T88v3 and TA-090 motherboards rolled out by Sony.

What does the ChickHEN do?
ChickHEN as a Homebrew Enabler that allows the execution of homebrew via the PSP XMB. Running via a vulnerability in the lib TIFF the launcher takes advantage of the system by performing a kernel exploit and rebooting into a homebrew enabled enviroment. The ChickHEN remains active until the PSP is fully reset in which case official firmware loads from the flash. ChickHEN unlike other HEN’s doesn’t touch the flash0 and resides completely in memory. The h.bin supplied in this download consists of a loader and systemex, which is a inversed order of systemctrl and rebootex

What ChickHEN does NOT do?
-Run ISO, CSO or any other form of UMD backup.
-Run PSX Games
-Touch The Flash of your beloved PSP
-Magically allow the use of Custom Firmware
-Load plugins

How do i get the HEN to run on my PSP?

1. First off use the supplied TIFF image and place it in the PSP>PHOTO Directory.
2. Copy h.bin over to the MS ROOT and safely remove device.
2. Scroll over to the PHOTO icon on the XMB and click the ChickHEN folder and wait. (This will not work the first time, you may have to just use a method of loading that works for you but this is what we have found most efficient)
3. If all goes well the screen should blank out and flash green showing that the HEN is loaded and all is well.
4. Wait for your PSP to reboot and check your PSP’s system software. It should now display: “5.03 ChickHEN”.
5. Scroll on over to GAME and enjoy some Homebrew!
