Just a misinterpretation, goodbye to UMD's?

Just a misinterpretation, goodbye to UMD’s?

News going around that Sony is already working on a and have been quickly denied by John Koller of SCE.

He explained that it was a misinterpretation, and says that Sony is urging developers to move away from the UMD platform and onto digital distribution of games through the PlayStation Store. “No plans for a PSP2 are underway.”

This should clear up any thoughts you may have had of the PSP2/PSP-4000 rumours.

Thats a load of crap why would you move to digital distribution if downloading would take hours what a waste of time instead of simply going to a store and buying it that way

  • IeUaN

Because aint stupid it will stop piracey of the UMD format forcing people to buy there games from the PSstore instead of downloading iso’s/cso’s.
so its not crap it very clever

  • Znupi

IeUaN: You really think the downloaded games won’t be cracked?

  • naruto

Great. Now I’ll have to buy more Memory Sticks to play PSP games.

I think I prefer copying my UMDs, it’s so much easier.

what if other ppl dont gave an wireless internet connection

What do they expect us to do? Empty our pockets and go bye Cable modems and and routers. Ill just stick with my slim for now.

@Puntymario – PSN downloads are surprisingly fast, actually.

I like the idea, personally. If download-only games are less likely to be pirated, maybe developers won’t be afraid to make PSP games.

  • DODOMAN

oh fuck now there is gonna be 4000?

@DODOMAN: There’s always going to be a new PSP.

I prefer to go to shops and buy games. The discs are nice to own in my opinion. Everything frackin software now. They can still be hacked/cracked anyway. I don’t think anyone would buy the 4000. The 1000 and 2000 are solid platforms.

i think it is better to own the umds as opposed to downloading them

  • http://? contact me at ddome6@gmail.com

anyways how do u copy them off of the umds? If u know how then please anwser me at ddome6@gmail.com

  • gurbz

@ddome6, go to vsh and change your usb device to umd disc. Too lazy to email you.

@puntymario: wtf are you talking about? Digital distribution is going to equal retail in the next 10 years prolly. Btw I’ve seen your youtube videos if I’m assuming they are the same corresponding usernames. No offence but why do you post losing videos of gundam vs gundam. NO OFFENCE. I’m just saying but I would be embarrsed posting those up. Its easier to do flawless combat or fighting with extremely insane limits( 1 second left on the clock win, or 1 hp litterally left winning). Thats win. You need to work on those videos man.

  • http://youtube.com/puntymario Puntymario

@gurbz um well you see a winning video doesn’t necessarily mean a good video it’s the content that matters not the end point

@Neil PSN downloads have already been cracked heck I never remember them being copy protected to begin with anyway. I don’t want to have to leave my psp sitting there downloading for example a 600 meg game thaaaats a waste of time

Sonys taking a new move. I remember seeing any addon content being unable to work on modded psps ( the wipEout pulse packages had a huge protest of unable to pirate them even with fake region codes, idk what the problem was) but if sony did more of that, less likely to see piracy. Or they could continue what they are doing right now. Dont release anything and let piracy slowly chip off like that. I mean the only moddable packages out there is the core slim and god of war. As soon as they eliminate those your left with used ones. That should have been step one. However, eliminating extended batteries just left consumers miserable ( LIKE ME) I never saw another on at retails since.

@Puntymario: Once again no offence but most of your gundam vs gundam have no useful content. Most people know that stuff unless they haven’t figured out some of the combinations. (x triangle took me a while to realize, 4 days was alot). But yeah, I’m not being a critic to your movies since basically all of your other videos in gundam were good, its just that your gundam vs gundam videos startle me by adding losing battles. I’m just stating MOST people don’t do that unless something weird occured ( and usually display just that single clip of the occurance) but in your case nothing happened which is why I’m confused:/

  • gurbz

And before someone says ” anything can be modded and it will be” well yeah thanks for stating the obvious but whats the point if nothing new isin’t coming out? Software for America I mean, its in the slums. Do you really want piracy to continue and chip off our beloved handheld? I blame Sony, if they had a more user friendly program that allowed you to create aps for the psp less piracy since people would be more preoccupied, even if it is a smaller majority.

Oh, and can someone help me out with 5.00 cxmb compatibility? Seems like none of my themes work after installed 3.3cxmb. I have everything installed. Maybe its my themes that are no longer supported or something?

  • gurbz

    nvm, I got it running.

  • http://youtube.com/puntymario Puntymario

@gurbz yes I do put losing battles I put them because if you put just winning ones then it seems like oh wow you are awesome you win all the time but in reality you could really be an awful player who just gets lucky sometimes. And i dont show them for the combos or whatever its so that people can gauge me

The discontinuation of the extended battery is a great loss, but I think Sony did it mainly because it was an affordable bargain. They’re hoping people buy more of the standard batteries for profit. Thay can’t be as nieve to think that the extended was the only battery that could be modded. The standard battery was able to be modded as well. Tons of videos on Youtube proved that. The digital distribution is just to cut down the cost of making the UMDs. Due to the market, everyone including Sony is trying to find ways to cut corners.

How can people crack downloaded PSN games, you have to pay for it first to download it and will these people crack it then upload it to a torrent service? Possible but Sony could have a way to stop that with a service key check everytime your psp connects to the network it valadates your games. If the key is wrong BANG your PSP is banned from the network. Much like XBLive works. Sony can win against pirates if they use there heads! But maybe they don’t want that as custom firmware has driven PSP hardware sales and they know this as some people will only buy a PSP if they can pirate it.

OMG I never knew this site was so popular, i thought it was small. 9 million hits since 09/2007 thats insane!!!!!!!!!? http://extremetracking.com/open;sum?login=pspslimh

  • Neil

A little off topic, but isn’t Sony re-releasing the extended battery kit? They haven’t said much, but I guess that doesn’t mean much with them.

  • NitroNeo

I think this is bullshit they may deny the rumors of PSP2 or 4000 to increase sales of PSP 2000 Or PSP 3000 I Wanna know which one to buy right now

  • http://myspace.com/shadowofwind Tenshi

well sony trying to remove moded psp in general cause they lose money and sony to busy with the ps3 to really give that much of a damn bout psp and if they do move to download games only whos to say that you cant just hex edit for public distribution and remove and key or trackers from sony so it be pointless i say they should stick to umds

    @PSP Hacker <<<??
Your lack of imagination and understanding of this subject quite frankly amazes me.If a game did require validation then obviously this is the very thing that would be cracked so it didn`t require validation. This isn`t even taking into account the fact that everyone who plays their psp is never within reach of that validating server 100% of the time(you always have net connection?..ALWAYS?)I never do with mine. It`s an option.
Steam games on pc are all hacked.Yes they are uploaded by people that payed for them, as are 99.9% of all games and apps(otherwise how did they get them in the 1st place,by magic?).Doesn`t steam require a net connection?
