E3 2010, Time for a new PSP?

Edit: Its over, no PSP2 or PSP-4000. At least not yet. Plenty of new titles coming to the PS3 and PSP however.

Live now: Better quality live feed here – http://www.gametrailers.com/e3/livefeed/sony

This years Expo is upon us now, just a few hours away from Sony’s big opening presentation. As we wait patiently for Sony’s turn, I wonder if some of these rumors about a new PSP model will come true? Apparently Sony is going to reveal some new hardware in a few hours? Is it just a new motion controller? Or the PSP2 is finally coming? Or is it just another revision like previous ′s? Maybe a possible PSP-4000 revision (current tech) with an internal 16GB of storage, UMD, slimmer look, new AMOLED screen to increase battery life?

Well not too long to wait, Nintendo is currently on showing their new line up of games: Zelda, Donkey Kong, Kirby etc. And of course the new Nintendo 3DS handheld. Surely Sony has an answer to this? We know Firmware 6.30 is in the works…Maybe E3 is the time to release it? Whats your thoughts on Sony’s up and coming E3 presentation?

You can watch E3 live here

We will keep you posted if and when Sony announces a new PSP model.

PSP2 would be great. I read about it on IGN and a few other places and apparently (Rumors I believe so don’t take it to heart) the PSP2 has a 4 cell processor and a new graphics card design. The capability is suppose to be between a PS2 and PS3 so it is quite a powerful little system. It is also said to have a touch screen and possibly 2 analogs. I wouldn’t mind seeing some 3D on it either if Sony decides to do that.

3D would work on such a small screen! it barely works on 3D tv’s

      • The Sacred Stag

3DS? That screen is even smaller and Nintendo have made it

  • mafius

Fail! They didn’t talk abou PSP2 only that 70 new games are coming to psp!

    • Doritoes

All the more reason to hope for a PSP2, Analog games/ PS2 quality graphics or better

  • MaxBurnout1200

Have you guys seen DS XL?? It just make the games worst looking, at least when they were small they looked less crappier. If they are trying to make a 3d nintendo they should improve their graphics.

from what I’ve read, the Nintendo 3DS is supposed to have accelerated graphics on par with the gamecube… but we won’t know until it’s on the market

@PSPfan: don’t hate me for this, but I found it pretty offensive at the last paragraph how you insulted Nintendo with “showcasing their kiddy games”. I’m no fanboy (owning a psp 2000 and go) but Nintendo also announced quite a few teen rated games (Metal Gear Solid, Super Street Fighter IV, DJ Hero, a few Shin Megami Tensei titles, Resident Evil, BloodRayne, Ninja Gaiden, Saints Row, a few Tom Clancy games, etc).

I know the majority of the games for the DS were aimed for children… but we also have to note that the psp also had a fair share “little kids” titles as well

But hey, this is a site for the psp and not anything nintendo (emulators excluded) related…so I’ll just take my leave

and on a tangent… Legend of Zelda is so not a kids game! But Kirby is d(^.^d)

      • Doritoes

Doesn’t have to be exclusive to kids. These are classics, and some people like to remember them no matter how old they are.

      • Yoshi King

@Doritoes: point taken, Mr. Doritoes! I was merely saying that I was pretty insulted by how biased the last paragraph was in this post. Yeah, Nintendo did announce games for little kids… but those games he mentioned (Zelda, Donkey Kong, Kirby, ect) are all time classics that all of us grew up with. Call them kiddy games all you want, I know the majority of PSPfan’s readers have played at least all or most of the titles

@PSPfan: sorry man for criticizing your post like that! I didn’t want to think that you were a hard core PSP fan… because I know you’re open to all consoles…right?

…i swear if they gave the psp more thought then it would be at the top of the market…stupid extra missing analogue stick…means that either they change every single game they have released to accommodate the now “new and revolutionary” analogue stick…1.6gb game limit…UMD stated by wikipedia can only hold a max of 1.6 gb…meaning that even the good games have nothing really to work with…as well as that, if they changed the psp now then all future games have to be altered to fit the change as well as excluding a large portion of psp users…which run on umds and have 1 analogue stick…all they had to do was get a ps3 controller and attach a few extra ports and a screen and its set….

    • no one

      …man i need to proof read…
…means that either they change every single game they have released to accommodate the now “new and revolutionary” analogue stick…or they cut off the whole psp community and start a-fresh with the “new and revolutionary” analogue stick…or…they introduce a “revolutionary” extra analogue stick attachment…

Sony really busted balls when they had at least 3 models after the first to make a second analog nub (especially on the PSP go…my god I cringe every time I see the start an select placement on mine…it daunts me) and make the adaptation from one to two nubs early. I mean what were they thinking?

The PS3 controller idea is totally redundant to the idea of “portable gaming”. I mean sure, you get a second analog, but now you have this big ass controller for a small screen. Also, the cradle, adapter, plug, whatever has to also support the weight of the portable while having access to the L+R triggers (especially if someone wants to play while lying down… I wonder how many broken noses would occur if the “PS3 controller adapter” was a P.O.S)

For the problem with the limited memory for games: if Sony was smart enough to replace their 802.11b WLAN, they could try a “psp games +” where you can download games larger than 1gb… and it wouldn’t be a hassle if the psp2′s WLAN isn’t sucky.

Finally, I think if they do manage to add a second analog nub, it’d make sense for future games to be compatible for all models (PSP2/ 4000 included) with some sort of controller settings in game… but idk, Sony has this tendency to miss logic all together.
