Sony giving away PS Vita Dev kits to indie developers!

Share

Sony are surely trying to set things right for the PSV unlike the PSP, showing that this time round they are dead serious when it comes to supporting smaller / Indie developers. So much so they are giving away PSVita Development kits and four of them to Icon Games! Yep you read that correctly, confirmed that its iOS title Great Little War Game has been completed for the PS Vita and will be out once the PSV is released.

They got the PSV Dev kits early as Sony was so impressed with their games they gifted four kits so they would make a PSV version of they game. And they did!

Heh, we got you covered either way if you like our game.

Great Little War Game is out for iOS now,
but we’ve also got the Vita version finished already – just waiting for the unit to go on sale. :) I can confirm that the machine is everything you’d like it to be – a really sweet bit of kit. And best of all, Sony are seriously pushing indies forward, so it’s AppStore should start filling up in the same way the iOS one has.

Nintendo can learn a lot from their attitude.

it’s a great thing to see that last few months Sony has renew their way of thinking and chose the winning strategy for Vita. With these efforts and the great hardware and software of Vita I’m completely sure in the future success of the new warrior in PS family

Its defiantly looking brighter Vs the current PSP. But Sony still need a solution for the independent small developers. I’m talking about the top homebrew game and application developers on the PSP. If these guys were to switch over to the PSV. Sony will need to have some kind of entrance PSV Dev kit package for them. Something that would be affordable. Not 12,000 USD for the kit. Thats way out of reach. Or even run a PSP Homebrew comp themselves showing its not too late to support homebrew on the PSP and give the winner of their PSP Comp a PSV dev kit?

I don’t think that this will ever happen
Not only because of Sony but due to legal issues as for example the need of registring and rating the games which is far from free and porting other games or making emulators which will not hold in any court as legalFor this we need to wait for some hack of some sort.Nevertheless the devkit is very affordable and small developers who will invest a little money and has the talant to make good games will get their investment back I’m quite convinced in that

Edit : btw the dev kit of PSV worths 4.500 US Dollars

Thanks for the info, its still some cash to raise just so you can make a few games. And if they were nono profit games your running at a loss.
