Sony details the PSVita online modes. All 4 of them!
Near is the PSV’s gifting online mode. Which allows players to drop online gifts to other players that have been in the same area. The gifts per game box have a size limit of 100Kb. This mode lets users discover one another, see users in your area near you and gift items. It also displays users recently played games and game ratings. So its a way of also seeing what games are top rated that you might not know about.
Now the more interesting mode is the Party mode this is a platform wide mode that allows you to stay in touch with friends through text and chat. And cross game voice chat. Yes you read correctly, finally. Its only taken 6 years. Its similar to the Xbox Live style and you can join friends games and launch games in party mode for others to join. Party mode is intergrated with the freinds list but you can choise to turn it off if you don’t feel like it. Its not forced on users.
LiveArea and Activity modes: LiveArea where you start from your PSV once booted, think of it as the XMB really but with intergrated online options and info. And the Activity mode is like the PS3 trophies system. It displays your ratings and throphies for your games.
The PSV LiveArea can also track users location too on both the 3G and wifi models (using skyhook)
These online modes give PSVita developers many new options not really seen before, at lets not on a portable gaming device. It will be interesting to see what uses developers come up with to full exploit these online modes.
