[Release] PSP Converter v1.05 Final Released

Share

KG6ZVP has just recently released the final version of his PSP Converter, which converts any video file over to a format suitable for playback on your PSP. I also sports a DVD Ripper, so you can convert a DVD over to playable on your PSP. The program does everything for you, it automates video conversion from any source to the PSP format. It calculates a PSP compatible resolution (480×272) based on input aspect ratio and will then determine the best bitrate for the encode. Its all run from a single batch file.

PSP Converter v1.05 Final Changelog:

>Fixed a bug in DVD-ripping which caused incorrect aspect ratio in output video
>Added actual bitrate calculation, which vastly improves compression accuracy and wastes less space on high bitrate for a low quality file (a video of 320×240@15fps will now be encoded at 176kb/s instead of 340kb/s)
>Streamlined program size and included an updated version of Prerequisites in the release (Download is 15mb and includes prerequisites as opposed to 70mb total between program and prerequisites!)

Notes:

In order to use ANY of these profiles, you must install the prerequisite program package. This installation allows the use of x264.exe (required for all profiles) and ripping of factory DVDs without decrypting!

To set output directory, create a file called ‘Outputdir.txt’ in ‘PSP Converter (V1.05) FINAL’, type the full desired output path (without quotes) and save it.

DVD RIPPING
1.) Open DVD43 (If it is not already running)
3.) Drag the first VOB of the title you wish to rip onto the PSP Converter window. (VTS_##_1.vob)
Examples are D:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_1.VOB and D:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_12_1.VOB
4.) It will run for awhile (generally about 4 hours for a 2 1/2 hour movie)

NORMAL OPERATION
Drag the video file that you wish to convert onto ‘NTSC.bat’ for a single file.
For multiple files, select up to 9 and drag them onto ‘English – Convert Multiple Files.bat’

NOTE: to convert single or multiple files as high resolution (640×480 or 720×480, aspect ratio corrected automatically), drag them onto ‘English – Convert Multi
ple Files.bat’

just wanna ask some opinion? comparing with PSPVC v3.75,which one is better? this one or the other one? im using PSPVC.. so,it really simple to use,and took less time.. but the result is marvelous.. so,is it worth it for me to download this?

    • KG6ZVP

The purpose of this program is to provide a better quality file of smaller size. My program is automated and only provides you two options: high resolution (DVD quality) or medium size (size of PSP screen). My program will take more time than PSPVC (roughly 2 hours to make a 2 and a half hour movie), but will give a better result.
      -
Personally, I like my program better. But, that is because I wrote it for my own personal use. I just released it so that I didn’t put in all that work for me to be the only user.
      -
If you want a program to figure everything out for you automatically, you will like my program. If you want to configure all the options yourself, you won’t like it at all.

      Does that answer your question?

be careful installing the prerequisite program package… Kaspersky (KiS) & Malwarebyte’s anti-malware detects suspicious “driver” being installed >.<

compared to PSPVC this app isn't even close (IMO). i would rate PSPVC 7/10, PSP Converter v1.05 3/10, i'm uploading movies & anime n my thread so i knw wut i'm saying. the only problem with PSPVC is f.U.c.king ERRORS, "fail to convert…blah blah" message

    why not fix & upgrade PSPVC? …just an opinion (F U C K u haters!)

    • KG6ZVP

That is because the prerequisite package installs dvd43, which uses an experimental driver that hacks into windows on order to decrypt the DVD.

    • KG6ZVP

What’s your biggest problem with it?

(Could you write your reply in complete english sentences?)

  • Lordchaotic

Hey, i don’t wanna spoil somebody’s work, and i congratulate your hard work, but….
when i was extracting this file, it crashed my Windows 7 64-bit machine…. but it could just be winrar

    • KG6ZVP

Try 7-zip. It’s freeware and I’ve never had problems with it.
      -
Windows should also have no trouble extracting the files.

Awesome program. It is working like a champ for video files I have on my computer. I am having trouble ripping DVDs though…
I’m dragging the first part of the .vob file onto the NTSC.bat icon. It progresses nicely, but hangs up with an I/O error, resulting in no finished .mp4. I tried using a different computer and different disc drive, no joy. Any thoughts?

    • KG6ZVP

Could you give me the exact file name of the VOB (VTS_06_3.VOB, etc.)?

How much hard drive space do you have left? How long is the movie? And, did the DVD43 icon turn green when you inserted it?

If you like, you can also send me an e-mail at:
      KG6ZVP_at_gmail_com

  • secretagentman811

Well here’s some more info: The filename is VTS_01_1.vob. I have about 7 GB of space on the hard drive, the movie is approximately 108 min, but the DVD43 icon didn’t turn green, it just acknowledged that a DVD was in the drive. Let me know if you need any other info. I’m trying it again now, so I will let you know.

    • KG6ZVP

The DVD43 icon should turn green. If it doesn’t, then it isn’t decrypting it and you might have to resort to something a little different in order to rip it on your computer:
      -
Download DVD Decrypter (I think v3.5.4.0 is the latest) and decrypt the movie to your hard drive (If you have sufficient space)
      -
Keep in mind when decrypting (if you end up having to) that some DVDs are larger than 4.7 GB, like DVD-9s, which are a special format (now very common) which can hold 7.95 GB.
      -
Also, a 108min movie will probably need about 1GB of hard drive space for encode (the end result will probably be around 450mb, though. (Unfortunately, I haven’t gotten DVD compression down quite as well as conventional video files yet)

      Does that help?

      • secretagentman811

        Thanks for the advice!

      • KG6ZVP

        You’re welcome.

Is there a manual or something on the way? I have a pretty green face, but dont know where to go from there, and can find no helpful info.

    • KG6ZVP

Double Click “English-Readme”. A dos prompt window will open and display all relevant information.
      -
      Does that help?

      • Handfull

Not really. Dvd43 wont even open. the icon in my tool bar turns green when i have a dvd in the drive, it say’s it’s reading it, and even tells me what dvd it is, but i cant open it. all i can do is go into the files that i extracted. probebly a problem on my end. I’m not new to the psp, but i’m new to makeing a copy of my dvd’s so i can watch them on my psp.

      • KG6ZVP

You have to navigate to My Computer>X:\VIDEO_TS (where X is the letter of your DVD drive). Does that help?

  • Handfull

Naw, I gave up. It’s nothing against your program. There are enough people out there speaking praise for me to know it’s a good program. It’s just an idiot trying to use the program. I’m a point and click guy. One more thing, I would like to say kudos to you, you have to be the first dev that actually hangs around and helps people with questions. It seems to me that if you need help your getting it from pspfan, or one of the other excellent members. Thanks for your help!!

    • Handfull

not to say that help from someone on this site is bad, just sometimes things get confusing and no one has answers

    • KG6ZVP

What was the problem you had? I never received any feedback from the betas, so I’m sure that there are still bugs in the program. I haven’t noticed them, but I only do files one-at-a-time because that’s pretty much all I’ve ever needed. And, I usually do them in 480×272 (normal mode).
      -
So, please, let me know what the problem you had was so that I can fix it.

  • darktech

this, is a good video converter.
i now use this over xvid4psp, because it’s from a source i trust, supports multiple videos, and is made by a user that actually responds to problems users have.
    kudos,KG6ZVP!

    • KG6ZVP

Always nice to hear it worked out. Thanks for the compliment.

  • iamepoi

can someone help me… it works perfectly except the subtitle always dis appear… i don’t know how to fix it.. anyone knows how??

    • KG6ZVP

Could you elaborate on “the subtitle always disappear”? track, file, burn, etc.?

      • iamepoi

sorry… thanks for the fast reply.. u always checks the feedback. this is the situation.. i download a movie (Japanese Anime) with English subtitle (AVI format) i want to put it in my psp so i convert it using this awesome converter(by dragging it in NTST) the conversion is successful and the video works perfectly except the subtitle dis appear..

how could i fix it? i want to watch it in my psp..

      • KG6ZVP

If you open the .avi file in VLC, does it show the subtitle under the list of subtitle tracks? Or, are they burned in? If they aren’t burned in, send me an e-mail and I’ll try to figure something out.

      • iamepoi

yes.. when i open the .avi file it shows subtitles… but when i convert it to mp3 the subtitle are gone…

      • iamepoi

@KG6ZVP ill email you what?? the vid?

      • KG6ZVP

Nah. Just send me an e-mail with as much information about the file as you can gather (You can get all the information you need from VLC Media player by going to “View < Stream and Media Info…" while the file is open). At that point, I'll send you an e-mail with a custom version of the program to convert your particular file. (No guarantees, but I'll see what I can do)

  • iamepoi

    T_T… but still awesome application..

    • iamepoi

      sorry 4 double post.

  • iamepoi

problem unsolved…. T_T… but still awesome application..
