PSP Slim Screen Protectors

Share

Some of you might have this issue… Since I got my PSP Slim I have used a screen protector, at least tried too. So far all screen protectors I have tried have air bubbles around the outside of the screen. I have tried 3 protectors brands now. All the same, even the best screen protector (Hori) for the PSP Slim is the same. Today i tried that brand and after applying it about 3 times, no matter how much i tired the same Air bubbles. After reapplying it 3 times its even worse.

PSP Slim Screen Protectors will have bubbles

Be prepared to put up with bubbles around the outside of the Slims screen for that added protection.

So a word of warning if your thinking about getting a screen protector for your new PSP Slim. Be prepared for air bubbles around the outside of the screen, due to the new Slims screen shape is not 100% flat on the outer edges. I have decided not to bother with the damn protectors. Do we really need them. A gimmick? I know it did keep my PSP Fat screen all shiny and new looking.

Do you have a PSP Slim Screen protector, if so does it have bubbles? Post a comment :)

I have a screen protector on my slim and i had the same experience as you

i found that by taking my time and using the squeedgy provided i was able to minimize the ammount of bubbles around the outer edges

i have another 2 psp screen protectors and im going to try and trim them a bit so it only sits on the flat surface

  • JD

Yeah, i had one, I tried putting it on 3 times. It was 10 bucks, and decent. But i had the same airbubbles problem. I don’t know why sony can’t just layer the screens themselves to be scratch proof. Fuckin cheap asians.

    JOKING

but yeah, i put it in breadcrumps by accident, and ruined it so, im debating wether to buy another one, and a psp sleeve, or just the sleeve.

  • PSP-Fan

I think ill try one last time and this time cut it a bit smaller

i just bought the invisble shield and so far so good no bubbles, works great but its a pain in the ass to put on, i tried other screen protectors but they all leave some sort of bubble so that why i recomend invisible shield and its scratch proof.

  • CrashSharc

SAME HERE!!!!! I HAVE a CONSTANT line of bubble running along the perimeter of the screen. Thankfully I don’t have bubbles in the middle. I Understand how completely annoying it is!!

  • Spikerosoft

i will cut the scren protector to fit and try and find the best possible fit

i will post exactly how many mm to cut off

  • zzaz3

I’ve never bought a screen protector beofre, but for some reason this thread has encoraged me to buy one. My old fat psp has scratches all over it, so I’m gonna play it safe with the protecter this time.

Thank goodness, I was about to buy a new screen protector because I have the problem of bubbles on the edges of my screen. Now I know that it is a common problem.

  • FF7 CC SLIM OWNER

    well…i have two slims
and they both have screen protectors and they work fine
    get something like a ruler
and put the screen protector on sideways
    while ure doing it
    bubbles might appear
whereever they appear, use the ruler and push the bubble towards the end which the protector hasnt been stuck on yet
this method should rid all air bubbles
    try it ; )

  • http://www.pspslimhacks.com Spikerosoft

I tried to change the size of the protector by trimming it and it made no difference

  • Linda

I have given up on the protectors too. None work, not even the invisible shield

  • http://www.pspslimhacks.com Spikerosoft

i have given up too, ill just have to be extra careful with my slim until someone comes up with a slim protector

  • Tom

I suggest getting the Invisible Shield, its the best one out there.

Im not sure what the other person was talking about as far as applying it goes… Its a very very simple procedure and its very easy to take out the bubbles. If some bubbles stay (which will be at a pixel level) they apparently go away themselves in about 2-3 days.
Its the other ones that are hard to install, and if you mess up once its most likely going in the garbage. Invisible Shield is a good investment.

I never use screen protectors… it’s useless… the picture becomes dim.

  • PSP-Fan

Thta is true, dims the picture a bit

It’s like making love with your girlfriend using a condom… it helps in some cases… but feelings differ :-) ))

Dimmer?? I haven’t noticed that, and I run my PSP slim at the lowest brightness.

Air pockets were a problem though… every little piece of dust gives you a bubble. I ended up buying a second screen protector and putting it on in the bathroom with the vent on. I figured the upward suction would help with the dust. Maybe it did, maybe it didn’t, but I have no bubbles this time :D I do have that thin lining around three edges of the screen, though.

  • Dracc

I found that the protector I got (crappy gamestop model) was slightly bigger than my screen. Also, I could not get the air bubbles to go away, and I’ve applied plenty of screen protectors in my day, so it wasn’t me. Note to whoever installed in the bathroom: If you run a hot shower for a few minutes before you start the humidity will cause the dust particles to drop to the ground leaving you with a nice homemade cleanroom. Ok, so…. mostly-clean room, but it works. I’ve even done HDD windows like this.

i jsut bought one today at walmart it came with a shitty silicon case for a fat psp has a 1mm black border around ti and costs 11$ with tax works bautifully and no bubbles compared to the other one i had highly recommended. by some company i never heard of.

I use the “Best Skins Ever”, (www.bestskinsever.com), skins on my MacBook Pro, iPod and iPhone as well as the PSP Slim with no problems. Love them. It was a little scary installing the thing with water at first, but I then realized that the ability to remove air bubbles when wet was amazing. Also, as the adhesive dries it sits flat and even filled in a rather large scratch on my iPod when applied.

Hi. I just got the red Kratoes psp slim on tues and put on a screen protector for the slim. It has bubbles but not really around the outside. Kind of poka doted here and there. I see that some people put on little soapy water between the screen and the saver. But I worry that would do damage to the screen and stain it like a laptop’s or leak inside the psp.

  • Scorpolian

im just wondering> how’d u take it off, i have a screen protector and im wanting to take it off, can anyone help, much appreciated

  • Niro

Holy shit, thanks for this post! My gf bought me a slim after my 1001 got bricked during a botched firmware update. After 3 PSPs with dead pixels, I invested in a full InvisibleShield but was unhappy with the screen part (not perfectly flat and gum spots). I bought a Martin Fields and after 3 days of struggling to apply (dust!), was wondering if my slim was defective because of the bubbles on 3 sides. Either way, would’ve been too late! Sony needs to work on quality control desperately.

IDk what 2 write now :D

  • pbVeteran

Easy way to apply is to use cleaning fluid for displays [alcohol based is the best bet] then slide screen protector in and use credit card to move out all air which could remain

Other a bit riskier but cheaper way is to use soap water :)

  • ACR

You could but you shouldn’t apply any fluid to the LCD of a PSP. The liquid has a high chance of leaking through the edges of the LCD and PSP case. Thus contaminating the backlight. If this happens your picture on the LCD will become discolored, blotchy, or in a worst case scenario “inverted”. So be very careful.
Once here and there is probably ok to get the air bubbles(yet risky). But getting in the habit of cleaning a PSP with liguids on a daily basis can result in the dire consenquences mentioned.

  • pbVeteran

Thats why we have specialized LCD panel cleaners :)

And yes of course everybody should read instructions which say apply small amount at cleaning cloth and work your way from center to edges ;)

Biggest enemy of screen protector at PSP is nonflat panel though

My girlfriend just bought me a 3000 series and I’m trying to find the best screen protector for it but seems like everyone is having difficulty getting them on I was thinking about buying the invisible shield or the Hori brand. To those that do own the invisible shield is it worth the investment? Or any other recommendations are welcomed too.

  • Her-0

Does anyone know if the PSP slim swing grip case is a good investment?

  • Gil

Anyone know a good way of getting dirt off the sticky side of the screen protector?

I managed to fit my Hori screen protector perfectly apart from one speck of dirt. So I peeled back half the screen protector and tried to remove the dirt with the lint free cloth and it’s only gone and put more dirt on there and caused some bubbling.

Does anyone know of a good way to get dirt particles off the sticky side of the protector? Can i take the whole thing off and was the protector? Will it still stick or do I need some special adhesive?

  • ACR

quote: “Thats why we have specialized LCD panel cleaners :)

Most LCD cleaners are a 50/50 mixture of at least 70% isopropyl alcohol and distilled water. So, if you do buy a bottle of LCD cleaner, then make sure it doesn’t contain ammonia. If the screen on a PSP is glossy, than 91% isoprpyl alcohol would have to be used in a 50/50 mixture with distilled water. (A.K.A. De-ionized water)

Screen protectors are the reason why we shouldn’t have to clean our screens with fluids. The best way to clean the adhesive side of a screen protector would be to spray it down with isopropyl alcohol and than use something like satan cloth to wipe it up. Once you’ve got it clean it will stick. But your chances of bending it or denting it are high.
