PSP Max Power X5 Battery Review

Share

A few days ago we got our hands on the DragonPlus PSP Max Power X5 battery pack. This is the battery pack that boasts a massive 48 hours+ play time and 168 hours standby time on the PSP Slim.

Max Power X5 Battery pack

Costing only around 11-15 US Dollars a piece its inexpensive. So who would this suit? Well for starters someone like myself. A few times a year I often find myself on long haul flights up to 12 hours each leg sometimes over a day travelling to get to my destination 26+ hours in a aircraft. Not to mention also stuck in Airport waiting lounges. Since no other extended PSP battery to date has offered such battery life, this is ideal for these long trips.

Along side a normal sized PSP Slim battery.

The battery itself is massive (just look at our photos), this brick of a battery is the same hight as the PSP slim unit itself. However what’s good to know is its not heavy, its in fact very light for its size. Which is great, so it doesn’t weigh one end of the PSP down. It comes with a supplied cover, which covers the hole battery compartment and was rather hard to fit. But once fitted stays in place and feels solid.

Playing with the battery in place is a little uncomfortable and takes some adjusting to get use too. As a longer battery solution it works, you expect some scarifies for such unheard of battery time. It adds bulk to your unit. Ok so it defeats the purpose of the PSP Slim being a slim unit, but its only for travelling or when you can’t recharge your PSP often. This isn’t to me a daily PSP battery solution.

Pros: Insane battery life 48 hours of play (with the screen set to lowest brightness), lightweight battery for the size. Does what its meant to do, power your PSP for an unheard amount of hours.

Cons: Its huge, looks like your slim has a brick attached to the battery compartment as some kind of joke. Not exactly the most comfortable extended battery, but you get use to it. I can’t put my PSP in its case with this PSP battery attached.

*We are still testing this actual time it will give us on a single charge. No power saving options on and full volume and screen brightness. 16+ hours and going strong

I so want that huge battery even tho it sticks out and will ruin my case, like 24 hours of gameplay or more would rock out loud. That is ill. Id save it for travel trips and use the regular one just for regularness. Best for vacations to india or japan

Oh Yeah its massive that’s no under statement either. But its not as uncomfortable as it looks. I don’t mind it. Its just for travel anyway. For 11 bucks you can go wrong. Eat that battery life DS :) !

questions though,is it safe?Is there a guarantee that it won’t explode or anything? What about using it for like a month, will its power decrease severely?

Just got mine in the mail this week, only thing is that it wont work…my psp slim doesnt seem to pick it up,as if theres not battery in it at all…maybe im doing something wrong, but i dont think…i think they just mailed me a faulty one…which is too bad..i was really looking forward to playing God of War for 24 hours straight!

  • PSP-Fan

Must be a faulty one? Spencer, there is a chip to control the temp etc to stop overheating. Its a type of battery that’s meant to have not memory effect. of course time will tell

It should be safe and its made by a company that at least have a name! No name battery’s are often more dodgy as they can’t be tracked to the manufacturer

So how long you have to wait for the order to arrive from china to US? I ordered it sometimes ago and still in waiting state here.

BTW, it’s a HUGE battery, but I’m just like you. I’ll be traveling over sea this Christmas and pretty much need this kinda battery power to keep me entertain during long trip

  • PSP-Fan

I’m in Spain, it took about 5 days I ordered it from Play-Asia.com

By the way I only about about 17 hours aprox. I will try again with low brightness and medium audio lvl (head sets) Could be because the battery needs a few charge and discharge cycles.

How does it compare with the battery life in Sony’s extended battery? That’s what I’m using, Sony’s 2200 mAh battery. Sounds like it might be a good idea to pick one of these mammoths up for times when it would be inconvenient or impossible to charge, and what with all the emulators and hacks we use that require the full 333 mhz mode…

Hi i just got mine. Im using a slim. The battery itself ways 35g which is only 5g heavier than the normal one and the cover ways an extra 5g so your PSP slim will now weigh 200g which is 10g heavier of what it is.

When i got it i put battery in and put on the cover (which is hard to put on but you get the hang of it). Then i turned it on and checked the battery info. It said i had 65% life left and 4hours 30mins left. I am currently charging my batt to see if in fact i do get 24 hours. Also i have found a few errors: When you try to reset the PSP in the vsh menu it wont work, You cant turn off your PSP unless you remove the batt, You cant put the PSP in sleep either.

  • Michael

OK i charged my PSP for about 20mins and any error i have listed has gone away. My theory is the PSP will desplay 100% battery life until it gets to about 6hours left. I will keep you guys updated

  • jordan

hey, how long does the battery last on a cfw and a game that runs off the memory card, cause when i check the battery life it says 8 hours after a full charge,

  • tim

con; its no more powerful than sony battery.
