PSP Go Price and Release Date set @ E3

Details that have emerged from Sony’s E3 slot, confirm the PSP Go will be released this Fall (1st October) and will have a hefty price tag of $249.99 USD / €249 (£214) in Europe. Other details also confirmed:

  • The PSP Go has a 3.8-inch wide screen (versus 4.3-inch on all previous PSP models)
  • 16GB of internal memory,
  • Wi-Fi
  • Bluetooth
  • Mirco Memory Stick M2 card slot
  • 50% smaller than the PSP-3000

    I still think it sucks. IDK wats d use of buying this PSP Go! thing. and Besides is it hackable?? It would be just another burden for the hackers especially when unsensitive ppol wud buy it and complain abt it being unhackable and wud wnt them hacked! 4th comment!

    It looks good but the way he holds the unit makes me think it’s hard to play with especially with versus fighting games.. I hope they made it more ergonomic considering it’s a handheld game console not a cellphone..

    Wow =[ Sony still doesnt get the fact that they would sell more units if it WAS homebrewable… they should just work on the security on commercial games only, like ISO loaders, not trying to stop ALL homebrew. they might aswell call it the PSP Go to Hell o_0

      resolution’s the same, battery life’s the same (or they’d have bragged about it), and no compatibility yet with old games.

      However, there’s a growing list of legacy UMD games on the PSN, so you may just get the opportunity to re-purchase all your old games ;) Can I get a “yay!”? …no? ok

    ok just by judging from the size of this guys hand that is holding the psp that thing is hella small. why would i want to play games on a cell phone sized device. i hope there are some other perks on this thing. i dont mind that it prob cant be hacked but what your paying for isnt even worth it.

      sry psp geek graphics wont change at all. this is not a psp 2 so all games this can play psp 1000-3000 can play 2.

      so in all really if u have any of the psp n plan on gettin this 1 your r just gonna pay more money to down grade. smaller screen, your hands r gonna be to close together so after a maybe 2 hours u gonna stop do to pain in your wrist. That and it looks like a 2 year old made it out of what it found in its diaper

    I have a few questions. How fast is the processor, How much internal RAM does it have, Does it have a good battery life, Can it connect to a PC through USB or Wireless, Will it have a touch screen, Can it be a true phone? If it does have a better processor, More RAM, Better Battery life, 3G, and a touch screen it will kick Apple’s iPod Touch/iPhone.

    Why? Simple… Imagine that Joe Sixpack and son walks into Wal-Mart.

    Son: “Look Dad! It’s that neat PSP Go!”
    Dad: “Looks nice. Wow! Look at those games! …. Uhhh, how much is it?”
    Son: $249.95
    Dad: “You must be sh!tting me! Grab that one over there… yeah, that Nintendo DS! It’s half the price!”

    Also, we are looking at a platform that brings NO NEW CAPABILITIES (worth noting, anyways) after the first release of the PSP Phat 5 years ago!! In fact, you get LESS functionality (no UMD) which alienates current PSP owners that might have been interested.

    What a joke! If they think that a fancy little slide screen (no pun intended) is going to sell this thing, then Sony is sadly mistaken. The slide screen is a neat concept, but only because it allows it to fit in a pocket now. NOT worth $250!!!

      You have to realize that many people will not get the concept of a games download store (PSN). And a small number of people still don’t have computer/internet access. (Yes, it’s about the same number as those that live in caves.)

    also it has bluetooth, sliding thing, and built in 16 GB flash mem!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    it’s also small and really light!
    but i am mad becuase now ppl will show off they have psp go while i only have a psp 3000

    I think it will kickass because i have a psn account and i have purchased allot of games so if your even close like me you will get one of these babies i think it’s gonna be awsome! I mean yeah i don’t have umd so what i have umd on my psp slim and i don’t even use it because all my games are either psn or iso’s so it won’t bother me a bit.

    Now, Nintendo could get REAL hardcore and lower the price of the Nintendo DS Lite so it is more appealing. Even keep the DSi at current retail but lower the Lite so when people are looking at a $250.00 console vs a $130.00 console or less, well, opinions stray there. As I said earlier, for a gamer like me this offers nothing and I am not going to drop my hard earned money for a system that literally offers nothing. With the money I have and the fact that I am getting a little bored with my PSP at times, I may just grab a used DS instead. I’m definitely not dropping money for a company that obviously is fishing in my pockets, minus when some good games are released (Soul Calibur, Kingdom Hearts, etc.)

    They are just competing with Nintendo’s new DSI, an insignificant addon (like a camera or 16gb internal memory) and bam! A brand new console that’s smaller.

    Also, if we can’t have homebrew on it, what the hell is the purpose of having 16gb internal memory? Hell we don’t use a psp to play music/movies, we use an mp4 players for that.

    The PSP GO, in my opinion, has very few pros, way too many cons, and 1 thing that I don’t know where it belongs:

    Pros:
    Bluetooth compatible (hopefully it’s A2DP Bluetooth 2.1. That way I’ll be able to use stereo bluetooth headsets, connect to other devices such as cellphones or computers, and send files)
    Super light-weight
    16gb memory (pretty useful once someone figures out how to hack the damn thing)
    The release date is in a few months and not years

    Cons:
    *The screen is too small (hell, the regular PSP screen is too small for me)
    *The arrow buttons and analog stick placement (how am I supposed to play Shooter games with that?!?!)
    *The L/R buttons are way too close to the screen (I’m pretty sure that it’ll be uncomfortable to use it)
    *$250 price range (honestly, I don’t think it’s worth it)
    *No Memory Stick Duo PRO (Sony decided to use M3, which is like their version of the MicroSD. M2 cards are really expensive damn it! I’d rather get a 4gb Memory Stick at Fry’s for $20)
    *It has that sliding thing like they do in phones (I don’t really like that because it wears out with constant use)
    *Possibly un-hackable during the first year (kinda like what they did with the PSP 3000)
    *The design of this system is so retarded. (Seriously, who came up with that design?!?!?
    *No internal camera (How can this compete with the DSi if it’s got no camera?!?! c’mon! internal cameras aren’t that big! I’m sure that if Sony tried, they could have fitted a camera in there without sacrificing too much space!)
    *It only comes in two colors (which color would you like: “Racist-Redneck White” or “Up-to-no-good Black”?)

    And now, the one thing that I’m not sure if it’s good or bad:
    NO UMD DRIVE OR DISCS! All games will have to be purchased through the PS Store using Wi-Fi on the PSP GO. The good thing about it is that if you loose the game somehow, you can re-download it at no charge. The bad thing is that you won’t be able to trade games with someone else.

    IS THE PSP GO WORTH IT OR NOT? You decide….

    It’s stupid to think that this new system will compete with the nentendo dsi. It has a camera. And a few extra add ons that I enjoy and another thing, nentendo builds things a lot stronger than Sony. For example the game cube or any series of gameboy my gamecube went through a house fire got somewhat melted and got wet from the fire truck hoses got it out after it sat there in my almost completely burnt down house for a week then my cousin had this stupid idea to try and see if it worked, so we pluged it in and turned it on and it worked (to bad the games got burnt). Do ya really think Sony is going to create something that’s even child proof, much less something like the gamecube.

      @Snake: lol? Why don’t you go purchase a ps3 now (since you’re comparing a home console), set fire to your house, then try and see if it still works? That would give you a valid comparison.

      As for nintendo’s camera, the only limited use it has is for certain games. As a standalone camera, it is absolutely useless with its low megapixel.

      It’s downright stupid to use such comparisons to diss Sony. You’re talking like a dumb nintendo fanboy.

      That aside, yes, I do agree that the cons outweigh the pros, especially the button placements and the smaller screen. I probably wouldn’t even consider buying it even after it gets hacked. Unless a better version comes out.
