Here is a round up of some of the first hands on experiences with the new PSP Go at E3, also some of the first detailed macro photos of the unit up close and personal. It’s interesting to note the audio and screen buttons we thought were removed are in fact on top of the unit. That makes sense! As those leaked promo photos didn’t show the top of the PSP Go.
From Kotaku’s hands on experience with the PSP Go.
The PSP Go is much more narrow than the original, a tiny little device that features the same visual quality, just with a half-inch smaller LCD screen. That smaller hardware footprint means a much tighter control layout, with the analog control nub moved to the right of the digital directional pad, making for a wider reach with the left thumb.
That move to the right will take some getting used to. It doesn’t feel natural, but doesn’t necessarily feel bad. It’s just that my thumb reflexively went for the d-pad. That’s no good for a game like SOCOM Navy SEALs Fire Team Bravo 3, which uses the analog for player control.
On the more positive side, the PSP Go’s d-pad and face buttons—square, circle, triangle, X—feel more precise, more “digital” than the squishier controls on the original PSP. They feel really tight.
The new shoulder buttons, which now reside behind the slide up screen feel fine. Not particularly good, not particularly bad. Just something that’s going to take a little time adjusting to, if you’re used to the beefier L and R buttons on the current PSP.
Weight-wise, we really couldn’t tell how much lighter the PSP Go was. It was locked down and attached to a bulkier weight, so no feel impressions there. Same for the slider. That was locked down too.

“*NO UMD!!OM WHAT WAS SONY THINKING”
they were thinking “f*ck you pirates.”
yeah sure nobody wants to buy this piece of crap, but your reasons are just plain stupid and unclear.
economically speaking, sony did a pretty good job remaking the psp
but it feels a few years too late.
instead of the 3000, this should’ve taken it’s place.
and for all you guys saying it’s overpriced, yeah no shit.
The first time anything is on the market, it starts off being over priced.
it’s only 50 more dollars than when the slim came out,
but this comes with 16GB of memory.
still sony, f*ck you, we want a new console, not another touch-up!
June 5, 2009 at 3:40 am
Ok one by one:
>he said the screen was 1/2 inch smaller, and thats no big deal
>The PSP has always been too quiet
>The controls are no differnt, and for gods sake a second nub or R2/L2 wont help the system! The nubs arent responsive enough to get what you want from 2. And a 2nd L/R takes up too much room, and the games work fine without them, no if yor talking about design…
>i have heard that the design (From people who used it)is just fine, if not better
> We dont know if the hardware will be harder to hack yet, sony could have easily slipped up
>UMD’s are horrid. Drain battery, slow load times… No one likes umds. They will give you digital copies though http://pspupdates.qj.net/Sony-to-offer-new-digital-copies-for-old-UMD-games/pg/49/aid/131931
>I dont like that they changed stick formats either, but realisticly, it had to be done to save space (Its the psp *GO*)and its already got 1 GIGs buit in so it isnt too bad
>Its got 16 GIGs built in. have you seen the price of an offical sony 16 GIG MS? this is a STEAL
>Downloading is the whole friggin concept!!!!!!
>It doesnt even have that many specifications
So yeah!
June 9, 2009 at 4:04 am
dude………… you downlod games anyway since your psp is already hacked………. its a built in 16gb memory, controls are the same only in different places and its a picture!!!!! of course ts going to look small….. and the lcd screen is he same except its a tad smaller……… ands its easy to hack using chickhen…. id say its a hack psp improvment and its not over priced its just the 16gb mem and the free socom ftb 3 or silent hill/tekken/ or soul calibur included

June 3, 2009 at 4:19 pm

June 3, 2009 at 5:33 pm
In picture 12, is it me or does that look like Socom: Fireteam Bravo 3 which was recently announced for the PSP?
June 3, 2009 at 5:35 pm
I still feel that my PSP-2000 was the best PSP made so far
June 3, 2009 at 5:53 pm
PSP-2000 was the best one made
No UMD Drive, Internal Memory, Internal Battery? Looks to me like Sony is trying WAY to hard to create a PSP product that cannot be modded
June 5, 2009 at 3:47 am
well yeah.
Just IMAGINE what we could do with this thing…
Basicly 16 GIGs of NAND
June 3, 2009 at 6:51 pm
More like a GameBoy!! >,<
June 3, 2009 at 8:12 pm
IT SUCKS!
June 3, 2009 at 8:58 pm
I don’t thing that is posible to play on this think.
This is to small for normal hands
June 3, 2009 at 9:06 pm
I for one like the squishy buttons -_-
it allows for more finesse, more control. In games where jump height, hangtime, or pressure sensitivity come in, clicky buttons fail.
June 3, 2009 at 9:13 pm
OH, and also… whats the point in demoing a slide unit when you don’t demo the fact that it slides!
What good does it do in its closed state? video and mp3? Can you adjust anything when its closed or would you have to open it every time to switch songs or turn the volume up? They should have utilized its closed state more…
You have to give someone more than what they had if they are going to switch but all sony’s done is take away.
No UMD support
smaller screen
internal battery
blah!
June 3, 2009 at 11:19 pm
the good thing about it is it makes it just a tad……… smaller and basically for skype( if it has it) videos and mp3……..they could of at least at mic support built in to save cash
June 5, 2009 at 2:44 am
I know, right? One thing that would be pretty fun though is when the system’s off, you can slide it up and down and up and down and up and down untill your hands fall off, your finger mucles lock up, or the system breaks. Yay, fun!
June 3, 2009 at 11:17 pm
if it could be hacked the no umd wouldnt matter because you can jst download it……… and play old psp games on it
but no analog is dumb………and since you can only download games how will you if you dont have internet????????????????
June 5, 2009 at 3:45 am
thats why you would by the 3000 then
June 4, 2009 at 12:04 am
16 gig internal flash memory and option for a micro m2 card (faster tranfer rate than standard sony card), thats very good. I like the psp go!
June 7, 2009 at 7:06 pm
At least I’m not the only one who thinks that the PSP Go is a good idea
June 13, 2009 at 10:49 am
me 2
June 4, 2009 at 12:07 am
Simple, if you don’t have internet, don’t buy it. At E3 they also said that the 3000 would remain.
June 4, 2009 at 4:05 am
2000 slims til now are the best.
June 4, 2009 at 5:35 am
internal battery psp go does it mean when you use up the internal battery for so long , how will you replace it ,by replacing a new unit psp go
June 5, 2009 at 3:44 am
when was the last time you had to replace your ipods battery?
Its not a big del, youl just have to send it in
June 4, 2009 at 11:59 am
sony just makes product that will cause the downfall of the PlayStation..
June 5, 2009 at 12:57 am
2000 and 3000 is the best psp ever…sony needs to be makeing “GOOD” games.
June 5, 2009 at 2:01 am
No UMD means ***download*** and ***download*** means credit card or that stupid PSN vouchers that do not even come to my country…
As others had said, I still keep my slim… at least I have the CFW-E …
June 13, 2009 at 10:50 am

June 5, 2009 at 3:43 am
People forget, Sony isnt trying to sell itto Pirates/Hombrewers, but the everyday person.
most people who use the PSP dont know the definition of homebrew
And it WILL sell to them.
Sony knows what their doing, trust me
June 5, 2009 at 4:38 am
about the download games thing
If you live in new zealand then you now how expensive internet is and the average psp game is 1.2GB
so not only do you have to pay to download the game you have to pay for the internet as well
i get 3 gb a month from Telecom. 2 psp games would use this up GAY!!!!!!!!!!!!
June 6, 2009 at 8:50 am
what the price?
June 7, 2009 at 1:56 pm
the design look suck..well i love my psp 2000..16 Gb internal memory?…hmmm…i can buy 16 Gb memory stick though…
June 9, 2009 at 4:12 am
No Umd- Good because your just going to hack it and download the games free
16 Gb- Awesome!!!!!!!!!
Socom FTB 3,Silent Hill,Tekken, Soul Calibur expansion might be included- Good
Controls smaller- you dont know how small it is because its a picture!!!!!!!!!!!!!! they could be the same size
Screen Smaller- Ok, that just makes the picture more HD
Internel Battery- Good so it wont be able to break off.
And a confirmed a built in Microphone ( which is why it has bluetooth)
So its better than the PSP 3000 and the 2000.
Who really wants a fat big psp? out with the old and in with the new!
June 11, 2009 at 7:51 am
Thing that bugs me from the pics is the select and start button are right on top of each other. I’m thinking of games where these buttons are used like MOH for example where it seems it would be way to easy to hit the wrong one/both at the same time.
June 13, 2009 at 6:37 pm
hmmm….looks suck..but i dunno until i try this one..actually before i had sony handheld, i just stick with my nds..dont want to try sony psp bcoz of being influenced of people after reading people commenting about psp bad side…but i try psp and get one..sure it not suck as people said.. until now i enjoyed playing psp 2000…maybe i should try this one too…
June 19, 2009 at 6:36 pm
look its smaller than our hand..
dont realy like it except the 16gb internal memory..
the other dont like it VERY MUCH
its more suck than the three psp older…
geez,…
i stick with my psp 3000…
