PSP Genesis Competition Winners Announced

After 111 entries and almost a month of deliberation, the judges of the PSP Genesis Competition have selected the winners. The judging panel was made up of known PSP sceners and developers Hellcat, Davee, Lampworker, and wololo. The competition’s main sponsor & organizer, npt, was also present for the deliberations.
For those of you who don’t know, this was the first occurrence of the PSP Genesis Competition, a scene wide collaborative effort to put on the largest homebrew competition the PSP scene had ever seen. And with well over 100 entries and $4,750 in cash and prizes, it was without a doubt the largest homebrew competition ever held in the PSP scene.
That being said, let’s get to the winners:
Coming in 4th place and winning the title of “Most Ambitious Project” award is arnold’s SHELL. SHELL is an amazing project that has been in development for 2 1/2 years before the Genesis Compo, and is truly in a class of its own, giving users a truly customizable user interface. For more information on arnold’s SHELL, check out the SHELL release thread on /talk.
Coming in 3rd place is some1′s open source 0xFFFFFFFFailSploit, a 6.38/6.39 Downgrader! To anyone who was unlucky enough to be stuck on the latest firmware, some1 was a true savior, allowing them to downgrade to lower firmwares and install custom firmwares. Once his kernel exploit was released, it was quickly incorporated into current custom firmwares, allowing them to be installed on the latest 6.39 official firmware.
For winning 3rd place some1 will receive $400 + a t-shirt from PSP-Hacks. For more information about some1′s 0xFFFFFFFFailSploit, check out theofficial release thread.
Coming in 2nd place is 6.39 PRO-B6 custom firmware by coldbird and virtuousflame! Besides being constantly updated, the 6.XX PRO custom firmware is a great project for the scene due to that fact that its open source, making it a collaborative effort among many developers. I’m sure this project will continue to draw new developers and be updated for a long time.
For winning 2nd place, coldbird, virtuousflame, and the rest of the PRO team win $750 + a t-shirt from PSP-Hacks. For more information on the PRO custom firmwares, see the Google Code page.
Finally, the moment we’ve all been waiting for! Receiving 1st place in the PSP Genesis Competition, winning the grand prize of $1,900 and a PSP-Hacks t-shirt is ……. (drum roll please) ….. Lamecraft by Drakon!!! Any fan of Minecraft should definitely try out this clone for PSP, which is destined to become one of the most loved homebrew games for the PSP.
While these 4 homebrews are the winners, the other 107 homebrews entered into the contest are excellent as well. If you would like to see all 111 entries, feel free to check out this thread on the /talk forums.
A great thanks goes out to everyone involved in this competition: npt, Hellcat, wololo, Lampworker, Davee, everyone who submitted an entry, all the sponsors, and everyone else who contributed to the Genesis Compo. We’re looking forward to next year!
