PSP Firmware 6.00 Released.
As predicted today Sony released PSP Firmware 6.00 which now includes updates specific to the PSP Go which is set to be released in October. While I was looking around at exactly what’s new in Firmware 6.00 there is nothing too special too report. There are a few new theme colors and really that’s about it….No DivX support or anything like that. Time to flash back to Custom Firmware I think.
PSP Firmware 6.00 changelog:
- PlayStation Store Games can now be grouped and displayed in folders based on their expire date under [GAME]
- Importing of playlists from the Media GO! applications is now supported under Music
- Under [Settings] > [Network Update] has been changed to [System Update]
- The number of Colors that can be selected under [Settings] > [Theme Settings] has been increased
- The PSP GO! system can now connect to the Internet via a Bluetooth modem such as a mobile phon
- Revisions to strengthen security has been added. (Internet Browser)

I can’t see anything new that is remotely impressive.
So why should dax consider this firmware worth hacking?
The *only* thing interesting for now, is running backups and illegal copies that have a version check.
For homebrew there is nothing really new about the firmware and if the CFW devs do not want to play the new games there is little motivation in doing a new revision IMHO.

The only thing rather interesting are the “Revisions to strengthen security has been added. (Internet Browser)”.
Maybe this will help <6.00 PSP3000/v3 users to run custom code and run homebrew (i.e. compare browser from 5.55 to 6.00)?
Or does someone know what this is about?

we all needing a 6.00cfw. sony are releasing games that needed 5.5x firmware to run, so i think this will also be the main reason for them to create a cfw 6.00 for us.

If you’re going to use the “legit” side of CFW, then that’s okay. But running illegal copies of games is just plain stupid.. YES, I play ISO’s, but I own the games. *or try ISO first then buy game later if I liked it.*

The race is on! Who’s gonna be the first to release a 6.00 CFW – GEN, or M33? Not only who’s gonna deliver it first, who’s gonna deliver it better? DAX said he wasn’t gonna make a CFW until a new feature got added to the PSP, but maybe 6.00 is enough incentive for him to make a new M33. Who knows.

well, the reason why a lot of people switch to the gen cfws is because of access to the psn and store. as that becomes a larger part of psp activity, then hopefully dax will find it suitable to grace us with another great m33 cfw.

Currently I’m on the fence as to which CFW is better. I think 6.00 will decide that for me. GEN definitely wins in frequency of updates right now.

maybe DAX wont make a 6.00 m33 because there has not been any major update on the 6.00 firmware.

You can play new games’s backups (for example I have soul calibur: broken destiny UMD which requires OFW 5.55 and I have PSP 3004 CFWenabler 3.60 – 5.03 MHU and I back up it and I found a guide that tells you to hex edit values of BOOT.bin inside of UMD’s ISO and it is patched.. so you can play any game with that way, even TEKKEN 6 that will be released)….

No, that method only worked on Soul Calibur Eur version so by far. GI Joe DiRT 2 and Motorstorm still require 5.55 and they won’t work. That patch only worked on SC Eur as I said.

Dark Alex ain’t releasing 6.00 m33. This is what they said:
“Please, don’t ask here, the Blog, IRC, etc for a 6.00 M33, as it isn’t planned. ”
So from now on DAX is official D-E-A-D to me, because I have the feeling that they don’t care anymore for us. I think I will upgrade to 6.00 gen when it comes out, as team gen is curently working on 6.00 gen.

Well you had 3.7 cfw. Now you updated to 6.0 ofw. You can’t play games on ofw only on cfw. Got it?
