PSP Custom Firmware 4.01 M33 Released

Dark_AleX has released PSP custom firmware . This new custom firmware edition from DAX brings 4.01 kernel support and features from firmware 4.01, multi language recovery support and many minor bug fixes. Custom Firmware does not have a XMB recovery menu or savestate support at this stage, this will follow in future updates possibly -1 or -2.

4.01 can be downloaded and updated on 3.80 upwards using the network update feature or use the download links provided.

* Extract the archive. * Copy included UPDATE folder to X:/PSP/GAME

* Place the official firmware 4.01 update EBOOT, named as 401.PBP, in the newly created UPDATE folder
* Begin installation from the Game menu.

    Ok, Just to make this extreamly clear. YOU CAN ONLY DOWNGRADE FROM OFW (Offical Firmware) TO CUSTOM FIRMWARE BY USING A PANDOAR’S BATTRY & A MAGIC MEMORY STICK! If you don’t know anone with CFW there is a hard mod for the barrty and a way to make a magic stick on the computor. Search YouTube for how to do it. Please guys no more stupid questions asking if you can put CFW on without the Pandora’s battry or magick memory stick.

    Yes, you can. you should download it and put it in your memory card and work from there.

    Hi Guys, I’ve seen so many people asking the same questions so can someone answer it one shot please.

    Q: Some people have normal Firmware (NOT CUSTOM) and wanted to update it to a Custom Firmware. So how do you do it?
    Can you update from a FW 4.01 to a CFW 4.01 M33 without using a “the” battery.
    If not, is there another way? Like Downgrading it

    If you really think your that smart YOU WOULD HAVE REALIZED that you can only get this version of firmware if you have custom firmware originally. If you have official firmware you cant just update using the damn update folder. Get a pandora’s battery and magic memory stick. Only way to hack it in your state, which is 4.05 ofw. Search around the forum and next time read the READ ME more carefully before you start judging stuff without even reading how to install it correctly.

      Yes you can but then you can’t auto update in the menu. Download the firmware.

    as many ppl have stated trying to update from official firmware to custom is not possible, i upgrded to v4.01m33 from v3.95gen (not my smartest decision)

    Hey all,
    I was on 3.80m33-2 pspslim. After following the required procedure above (copy update folder into E:\PSP\Game\Update (E is my psp memcard drive) the update folder contains Eboot.pbp initially. Without removing that I copied official firmware in as 401.pbp and then booted my psp. After installing the firmware I got the error note (Update Failed please contact technical support (FFFFFFFFE) and then my PSP seems to have bricked (turns on for about 15seconds, screen displays nothing at all then turns off). Anyone can help me please! for those who would scream at me for not researching sorry, but total noob at upgrading so dont understand much of what i read.
