PSP Custom Firmware 3.72 HX-1 released! Seems it wasn’t long till someone stepped into Dark_Alex’s shoes as Spanish developer _HellDashX_ has released a new custom firmware based of Sonys latest firmware 3.72. _HellDashX_ has confirmed that all features from the previous M33 release were left intact and minor code changes have taken place to support the newer 3.72 kernel.
Tested myself. I can confirm this works just fine. No brick (proof above)
*Update POPS (Playstation / PSX Emulator does not work!)
Do NOT download this if you wish to play PSX games.
Instructions:
You must have 78% battery and be running this on 3.71 M33 or 3.71 M33-2. No other firmware is supported.
Run the archive to extract the files. Then place the UPDATE folder in the /PSP/GAME
Folder and then run the update from your PSP’s Game Menu. When the update is finished, you must follow the on screen prompt to press X and restart your PSP. Remember if you have any plug-ins to re-enable them in the recovery menu.

Heres the official release text translated from Spanish.
Before anything, Dark_Alex deserves enormous appreciation.
Thanks to him for learning a great deal about reverse engineering.
After analyzing all the code of 3.71 CF m33-2 (We can demonstrate for those that have doubts.),
and after knowing Dark_Alex did not plan on releasing a 3.72 CF. I decided to adapt 3.71 m33-2 to 3.72.
There were barely any changes to this firmware (5 different addresses to patch by vshctrl.prx in some modules of vsh, and some other things.), so the only thing was adapt the code of 3.71 to this.
The updater I use for this process is the same one DAX made for 3.71 (also I reversed the whole thing, all the components, so all the code of the updater is mine taken by reverse and tested in my fat and slim).
It does not include 1.50 compatibility, there should be no problem installing it, the DAX program only works with 3.71 because it checks the firmware version (confirmed, if anybody has doubts this is fw 3.72 you can run the DAX 1.50 installer and see that it won’t run)
I am reversing it, (I am almost have it complete), if I reverse and have time I will make a patch for this.
INSTALLATION
Put the eboot and umodule.prx in the folder PSP/GAME/UPDATE, paste the official 3.72 eboot named 372.PBP in this folder and launch the program.
Sony’s code will run installing firmware 3.72, and when asked press X to restart IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO PRESS X, DO NOT TURN OFF THE PSP MANUALLY! Explanation, in the moment you press X the umodule.prx will do its job installing the files of CF in the flash, and then the system will restart.
If you don’t press X, you will brick for sure(explanation, Sony updater will only flash the IPL to 99%, but the modified updater also installs an IPL custom block, which in the start try to load x files if they are not there will produce a brick).
Tested on a PSP fat 3.71 m33-1 and 3.71 m33-2 and also in a Slim with the same CF.
Thanks to DAX for the original code (and the fun I had with it) and Coolj for testing my update code and the fixes in 3.71 m33-2 for the 3.72.
_HellDashX_
PS. Like always all flashes have their risks, so DO UNDER YOUR OWN RESPONSIBILITY

100% A.O.K
OK so yeh i checked this and everything is crisp. Just follow all the directions and everything will work out fine. Please note for those who have any home brew or custom\prx ’s just after the installation is complete navigate to mso\psp and rename game(xxx) to Game372 and all home brew will be fine. for prxs if you haven’t already downloaded le recovery 3 download and install cuz its a lot easier if not then just navigate to m33 recovery menu and activate them there (yes after the install you need to enable them again) as far as everything else goes you are in the green – the 1.50 kernel ….but yep good luck and thanks HX
for those who need additional help\faq email me @DigitAleX_Hact0r@hotmail.com
I’ll be glad to help!

November 7, 2007 at 12:19 am
Ok Give me a sec
November 7, 2007 at 12:23 am
PSX Emulator doesn’t not work. POPS is a no go! It starts might load the first warning screen then crashes the PSP Slim
November 7, 2007 at 12:53 am
I have checked it out….you still need a pandoras battery for this.
November 7, 2007 at 1:01 am
Johnny Appleseed: I don;t know where your getting your info from. You don’t need a Pandoras battery. You just need 3.71M33 to upgrade from that.
November 7, 2007 at 1:34 am
Well I have PSP slim and tried the above, I only have 3.71 official not M33 firmware, tried the above so I am now assuming it will only work if you have pandoras battery installed which I do not have, if there is another way, I don’t know.

AS many of you may not be awhere of 3.72 -HX has a hell load of problems. Though i do apreciate HX’x help in the scene more debugging is need before you releas another version.Firstly pops we all know what the errors are so i will not rediterate. Secondaly the keys are corrupted they were not auto fixed so a lot more erros will follow. 3 rdly incompatible prx’s etc and you need your own recovey/; vsh menu etc…
How to downgrade 3.72-HX
For those who have already upgraded and now are kicking themselves in the ass here is how it is done.
1.Create a pandor battery espertar_cementerio is the better one (i will not waste time explaning how to make this google it)
2.Install 3.72-m33 over 3.72 hx-1 and you are good
just format your flash 1 files auto not manually and you are good further help and info email me DigitAleX_Hact0r@hotmail.com

November 11, 2007 at 11:50 am
WELL MINE DID NOT WORK I HAVE A PSP_1003 AND I ALREADY HAVE VERSION 3.72 BUT THIS WAS MEANT TO DOWNLOAD 3.72 HX-1 WAT WENT WRONG
November 11, 2007 at 4:35 pm
For those of you asking about how to upgrade/alter offical firmware (OFW) to custom firmware (CFW), you will need a pandoras battery to do this. The pandoras battery simply allows you to start up the PSP so it goes into service mode – then you can install the CFW from the memory stick.
