PSP-3000 HEN will not have ISO / CSO support

Davee has posted that he will not be implementing CSO or ISO support on his up-in coming HEN / Homebrew enabler for PSP-3000′s and Ta88v3 motherboards. Why? Mainly because davee has not been able to get M33′s permission to use their modules to would enable iso & cso support. Also because of davee’s stance on PSP piracy via ISO’s..

I assure you I have absolutely no intention of adding ISO/CSO loading at any stage of HEN. HEN will have next to no features of M33 except patching the firmware for homebrew. My initial idea was to load the M33 firmware and modify but I couldn’t get into contact with M33 for permissions to use their modules as of such I am using my own reverses.

To All:

To everyone begging their asses off for ISO support you can easily forget it. Even if I was to add it, about 50% of M33 is for ISO support and frankly I cannot be assed reversing that just to feed the pirates and the minority who actually use it for personal backups. I also believe you people are being incredibly ungrateful about there being no ISO support. For one, I have a homebrew enabled PSP 1000, I have no 2000 or a 3000. I should be technically studying for my exams but I still take the time to create this HEN for you folks. I think you need to take your time and realise what you’re saying.

We agree that ISO support will just feed the pirates out there. Homebrew support on a PSP-3000 will be great!. Although it is nice to convert that UMD we brought into a CSO/ISO for faster load times off the memory stick…That’s an added bonus but that leads to piracy and its killing the PSP. Well that and used games which are just as bad if not equal in the eyes of game developers.

So does this mean even though it’s not possible to play iso’s we can play eboot, such as ps1 games as I have most of the final fantasy games which I have converted through my pc, so would they work using this homebrew?

C’mon, guys! THIS IS PERFECT!!! I know it doesn’t sound like it, but just bear with me for a moment as I lay out the reason(s) this is a very good thing:

Q: First of all, ask yourself, why did Sony get rid of homebrew software after the first couple of firmwares?

A: The answer is piracy. Now, there are a lot of other excuses having to do with Sony wanting ALL revenue derived from software (non-games, etc.), but I really don’t put any stock in those myself.

(Now, I know it sounds hypocritical of me, but I myself have pirated software as .iso/.cso, but I ALWAYS BOUGHT THE GAME AFTERWARDS! As another side note, the game companies that develop for the PSP have made some HUGE mistakes, like: NOT HAVING DEMOS FOR MOST PSP GAMES! If there were demos available, I would download those instead of the .iso/.cso pirated ones, but, unfortunately, most of the game companies have not taken a hint from the world of PC gaming.)

Q: If Sony could see that allowing homebrew to run on PSPs did not pose a threat to them (ie: MAJOR drop in piracy as a method of acquiring software for the PSP), would they re-institute homebrew?

A: There is a HUGE question. I would certainly hope so, but then again, I can’t know for sure.

Well, in closing, I would like to state several things: First of all, I think, personally, that this is a huge step in the right direction. If Sony can see that people with PSP-3000s can hack them to run homebrew, but can’t run .iso/.cso “backups”, then I think Sony may give homebrew back to us!

  the Wii for instance, had Homebrew a originally rather worthless idea *it required zelda to use, and later could only be used for a VERY limited time… thankfully it got perfected* but Nintendo was fighting this from almost the start… before the piracy even existed, shortly after Wad manager became a form of piracy *stealing older games, but it was far from perfect* though this happened, this is HARDLY a reason to block it *you know we all here, seem to think Emulators are completely different than taking a ISO/CSO when its exactly the same* now i do admit Nintendo brought it on themself, for charging insane ammounts for games that shouldnt cost much if anything *megaman 1 – 3 cost as much as the GC game that has 1 – 8….* **mario bros which was originally free, costs a bit, and most of these games were free, or have been remade so many times its HARDLY a perk!** it took about 7 months of homebrew for even a ISO loader to exist and at this point nintendo released a few firmwares to fight it… so clearly they dont want it at all period end of story

  You must be like 12 years old. That was the most incoherent dribble I’ve ever had the misfortune of reading. Getting caught isn’t the goddamn point; it’s a moral issue. The PSP is suffering because people pirate 75% of the games. Low software sales means developers aren’t going to be interested in making games for the system (devs have abandoned the platform already and some have come very close.) Not to mention hacking a PSP doesn’t mean it’s going to be used for piracy. Playing roms of older systems isn’t wrong in my eyes because you cannot buy old games new anymore. The only way to purchase most games from the PS1, SNES, GBA, etc. is to buy them on ebay for substantially gauged prices; thus, you aren’t supporting the developer. I don’t know why I’m taking the time to type this out because you probably won’t read it or understand it.

  Why don’t you go to your local game shop or amazon and BUY some games. You can get half of the good games in the PSP library for under $20 a pop. Hell, you could buy them used for under 10 bucks (though it wouldn’t help the sales for the game.)

  You don’t seem to understand how things work in the video game industry (or in basic grammar and punctuation.) Developers have begun to abandon the system due to the amount of piracy. If good developers are putting out good games that are being pirated more than bought; it’s a bit hit on the developer (especially the small ones.) So these developers aren’t going to put time and resources towards making good games that they won’t see anything from and they’ll pump out shovelware and non-games for the DS or the Wii because it’s lucrative. Quit being so narrow-minded and see the big fucking picture.

Homebrew enableer I am truly grateful for this, even tho you sacrefised (idc abbout my gramma its about the context) so much for making this beatiful program there are still ppl who just want more and more and (quess what) more like you said 50% of the ppl install cfw for iso and hacking your costs loads of money and frustration and research and sometimes you just can’t get your hands on the stuff that you need for hacking your psp but suddenly this very loving non-self centert psp programmer comes up with an exploit that doesn’t require anything! (only the mem stick ofc) and you hope that it will support image files but the devoleper doesn’t want to support piracy…
I could understand that that ppl would get pissed of by that but you must understand that supporting piracy is illegal and has an very high fine and it simpely isn’t worth it to ruin the rest of your carreer…

    The PSP costs $170 and games cost between $15 and RARELY $40. Whereas a PS3 costs $400 and games cost $60 and a decent gaming computer costs $600 to build.

Wow. this is great news! Even though it can’t play CSO/ISOs at least homebrews work. Running CSO/ISOs on this new motherboard thingy must be really really really hard for these guys. Sony must have outdone themselves on this one, and I really think no one can ever make CSO/ISOs play on PSP 3000 series.

So basically i’ve been reading the piracy argument for a few minutes, so pardon me if i skip some things. Basically i see it as a legit thing to want to protect against piracy, however its not exactly that big of a deal, (imo) its a BIG world, and you have no idea the amount of people that wouldnt have a clue how to pirate, so the pirate/bought ratio is actually tipped more towards bought. and then yes, there are inflated prices, the only $15 games i’ve seen are on the discount racks, most of them are lik $25 or more easily. and that tiny little system is 170? yea, not over priced at all. basically i understand the concerns of piracy, i just think its blow out of proportion. i personally had been a pirate a while back, and i’d do it again if i wasnt in fear of getting busted (i almost did before). the only reason i even want iso/cso support is because my laser or something causes my gmaes to have load times from hell, or the disc just wont read at all, and i really REALLY dont want to pay to get it fixed/cleaned for no reason when i could backup my games onto a memory stick easily when i need to.

  You say “tiny little system” as if the size of it should make the price lower. You realize smaller technology is MORE expensive to produce, right? This is a portable system capable of graphics close to, if not on par with some PS2 games. An ipod is smaller than a PSP yet it costs quite a bit more and iphones / blackberries are exponentially more. As for the price of games you can find them cheap if you do some bargain hunting (generally just logging on to amazon and finding lower prices or waiting for a sale.) If you want to do the research you’ll find that an extremely large percentage of PSP owners aren’t buying games for the system. The platform has taken a bit hit and developers are reluctant to develop for it. The only thing that has recently saved the PSP is the fact that Sony has made them “unhackable” with the latest iterations.

Then don’t bother screwing around with the PSP at all. If you don’t agree with piracy, then you’re still vandalizing Sony’s property by enabling features they didn’t give you in the first place, and thus functionality which you did not pay for. There’s no middle ground. Homebrew is still piracy without theft.
