PSP 2? Maybe not.

One of many PSP 2 concepts circulating the web

One of many concepts circulating the web

David Reeves of SCEE says that there are no plans for a “″ anytime soon, or maybe at all.

Here’s what he had to say:

“No, there are currently no plans for a . I go to Tokyo quite a lot and no one has referred to it – I think they have their hands full at the moment,” … “We just launched the PSP-3000 so we are still focused on this generation of the platform,” … “The PSP is as successful in numbers as PS2 – it tracks its numbers in a cumulative basis,” … “Its weakness, however, is its software. And that’s because developers, when it comes to placing their bets, have to choose PS3 and 360, then Wii, then DS, maybe even PS2 before PSP. It’s the same at our internal studios, where the focus has been on PS3. They’ve also focused a lot on PS2 as well because we have to get the SingStars out for that format. So PSP games will come – they just take a while longer.”

In summary, Sony has no plans for a and are currently looking to improve the current PSP. It is noted that the games themselves are letting the PSP down, despite hardware and firmware upgrades, with developers focusing more on other platforms such as PS3 and X360 before looking into the PSP.

    Its a good concept

Just whoever made this pic, put the analog sticks below the D-Pad and the x, o, triangle and [] buttons..

Them being below sorta matches the play station theme better than them being up top….

Its because of all the modded PSP’s. Its the most pirated console after PC.

@sdwad: The wii can easily be pirated too. But still, that stop Sony from making the PSP systems.

there wouldn’t be psp 3000 now what we have psp 3000 besides its not much improved
Sony would make new psp no matter how it would be called(4000 or 2)or they will die

When they(sony) say they’re going to improve this generation of PSP, do they mean something better than the “improved” PSP 3000? Because putting minor new things into the system may not be considered as an improve version of the PSP models to me, fan of the PSP.

look at the DSI they added a few things, removed the slot for older games, and that is the easyest to pirate =P since you just plug and go, no way u can brick, no risk, cost money, but theres no risk, unlike the psp, where you got to make a battery, get a 2nd one so you dont brick, buy this get that xD u see my point

but i agree with the games, overall they suck =\
gundam vs gundam was a let down
prinny was hard as hell, and not very fun
no game besides bleach soul carnival got me to play for more than 2 hours =\ except prinny, that being said is a huge problem, i do think the software is lacking

    2.0 had a big thing
    3.0 had a small thing
    4.0 had nothing
5.0 had a changed theme =\ and the PSN
overall the software post 3.0 has been security, and minor tweaks, or things to make older people want to update like Skype, and other region only apps, like go messenger

I doubt a PSP-2 would be that much better than the PSP-1 anyway if they made it now. It wasn’t that long ago the PSP got a clock frequency boost. Besides, hardware-wise (CPU/GPU), it’s still unchallenged as far as I know.

I think one of the PSP’s biggest problems has been that it’s not very portable. Games come on huge UMDs, and the battery life (at least in the beginning) sucked. Even now, Sony’s pulled the extended battery kit and hasn’t re-released it. Ironically, the best way to counter these problems is with CFW, which enables piracy, so it’s sort of a lose-lose for Sony. At least they’re finally putting games for download on the PSN.

Well, the PSP2 would be something completely different (basically like PS3 is compared to PS2), but if it will come, it’s going to be a long time until then.

What I hope most for the PSP2 is not two analogue sticks, bigger screen (I’m very pleased with the current one), but an accelerometer! With the power of the PSP, just think of the possibilities! There could be driving/racing games where you steer by tilting the PSP, there could be “get-the-ball-in-the-hole” games where the PSP represents your table and you have to tilt it to get the ball in the hole, etc. etc. etc.!

That accelerometer thing sounds like it would be an amazing improvement. It also won’t be to hard to get it to work with older games. Just make it act like a joystick when you turn it.

I’ve never played on the iPod Touch but I think it would be better on something like this anyways.
