PS Store blocked in M33 Custom Firmware
First the Anti-Custom Firmware game Evangelion: Jo, now this. As Sony has blocked Playstation Store access from M33 Custom Firmware. If you try to login to the PSN Store you’ll get this prompt
“A system software update for the PSP system is required. For update methods, refer to the instructions for the PSP system.”
And no, not even a version spoof can trick the system. PSN is out of bounds now on M33 CFW, but 5.50 GEN Custom Firmware still works. We say still, as were certain that Sony will also be blocking this out asap.
Personally I find this move to be unusual of Sony, why? Well they just blocked out future potential PSN downloads and $$$ / profits for Sony and its game developers. Silly indeed….. I’m sure many of us downloaded FFVII via the PSN Network.

5.03 GEN-A doesn’t work either.
Looks like PSP 3000 users won’t be accessing PSN for a while, considering 5.50 GEN-A isn’t working for 3000 yet.

If you’re a PS3 owner as well as a PSP owner surely you can still buy things from the store via the PS3 and simply transfer them to the PSP?
Not much of a anti-CFW attempt by Sony if that is possible and I also agree with those who say Sony have potentially scored an own goal by possible loss of store sales by CFW users.

In the end good will win (Sony im talking of)
July 5, 2009 at 6:43 am
Like they will win, You can download the stuff from their website on your computer and put it on your PSP.

You firmware needs to just say 5.50 in the version text I think. I never have tried buy content on my PSP through the PSP, but I have on the PC. The PC PSN right now just reads from the version.txt so, if you can change it so it can read 5.50 instead of 5.00 then you can buy from the PSN through the PC. I don’t have a PS3 so I don’t know if that works.
July 1, 2009 at 12:20 pm
That doesn’t work.

PSP-2010
You’re retarded if you use custom firmware and call Sony your friend, this site is called “pspslimhacks”. If you truly love sony, go make out with them and stop navigating here.

You believe what i say? chillax dude. I’m just being sarcastic!
July 1, 2009 at 3:36 pm
sony is like an arrogant baby nowadays…. as long as we’re unhappy, they’re happy….lol
Their primary goal is to keep any cfw users miserable. even though it means financial loss.

Hi Everybody! I have replied to this article on my own website…
http://www.mirandasoft.net/2009/07/01/psp-hack-idea-nand-swapper/
It’s my NAND swapper idea for PSP hackers, such as the M33 team. Please forword my post as a potential solution to PSN Store blocking M33 Custom Firmware…
Thanks,
Marcos

The only way this could make any sense is if every new game checks for CFW. So, instead of dealing with a million complaints from people who legitimately bought games and can’t play them, Sony just blocks access to the entire PSN.
July 1, 2009 at 5:25 pm
That Media program that you get for PC would still work right?
Or just via PS3…
July 1, 2009 at 6:01 pm
PC doesnt work? well I guess its time to use Psx2Psp converter. Been using that and its great.
July 1, 2009 at 6:37 pm
i dont care i just used media go
July 1, 2009 at 6:52 pm
What really sux is that with this fix, Remote Play does not work anymore!!!!
July 1, 2009 at 6:54 pm
Yeap, just confirmed it… REMOTE PLAY does not work either and also playing online through PSN is not working anymore. I don’t care about the store, but the other features I do care about…
July 1, 2009 at 6:56 pm
itsd not just psn – its infrastructure games too i cant play resistance online
July 1, 2009 at 7:03 pm
Exactly… basicall we can’t connect to the whole network. That is more detrimental than access to the store. The title should read “Access to PSN blocked” because it is the whole network, not just the store.

I guess they are cracking down as we get close to the PSP Go release. It sucks cause I do own the games I rip into my memory cards, Sony just doesn’t give us the option. Also, of course, I own emulators which will never run on OFW!!!!
July 1, 2009 at 7:24 pm
Has anyone found a solution?
July 1, 2009 at 10:50 pm
Don’t run CFW o_O.
I never used the PSN store so I am good.
July 2, 2009 at 1:29 am
As I said, I could not care less about the PSN store. But playing online and using Remote Play is something that I enjoyed even under CFW. Also, if I don’t run CFW, even the OFW 5.03 still does not work and I am not upgrading to 5.51. I guess no Remote Play and Multiplayer for us for some time now.

This is a sad post on behalf of Sony, aside from the issues not managed well for the PSP, they take the time to block CFW, could there possibly be something better to work on with this system. I see why they don’t want to support the community that has put out more software for one system than any other console developed,( Including Sony! ) I as a CEO would feel the same about it, Money not made for great work, What’s worse you ask? We do it all as a hobby, we put in more time than Sony does and they even took the auto detect USB feature from this community in the 5.00.
( Yes they even stated it in an announcement but did not specify from where. )
I wish I kept that information, but that’s all I have to say about it.
July 2, 2009 at 2:30 am
Oh well. Back to pirating games.
July 6, 2009 at 6:58 am
yeah if they dont want our money dont give it to them
simple
July 2, 2009 at 5:35 am
sony is making bad decisions by saying block this and that even if u have outdated ofw u cant play games or use PSN well its their loss in the many customers they just blocked it would all be better if they allowed us to put homebrew on ofw (not pirating games of course because they loose money )cfw makes their ok system a whole lot better and eventually they will go broke trying to block the psp hackers they should try and spend some money on improving the ps3 and psp not dragging them down maybe ont the ps3 motion sensitive controler that looks really cool
July 2, 2009 at 7:50 am
I have an idea. I don’t know if it will work but when I have my battery in pandora mode I can boot custom firmware from my magic memorystick. Couldn’t we change the firmware on the memorystick to ofw and have it boot when the battery is in pandora mode? I don’t really know all the ins and outs of the mmstick but I’m gonna mess with it.
July 2, 2009 at 12:50 pm
i can’t go to PSN with 5.03 GEN-A
it says that software update is needed
July 2, 2009 at 2:26 pm
They did it because of the NOOB’S who use hacks online, and makeing it fair game play when new games come out you need your psn too work too play. unles they find away around it.
July 2, 2009 at 2:54 pm
i am using 5.03 GEN-A and i want to download songs for Rock Band Unplugged
is there any other way to do that except to download it from PSN???
July 2, 2009 at 7:54 pm
who the hell plays psp games online anyways…… >_>
July 2, 2009 at 8:57 pm
uhhh are u kidding? a lot of people play psp games online, me for instance. resistance retribution is a perfect example of a great online psp game
July 2, 2009 at 9:29 pm
Same here. I play online and use remote play. Now I can’t anymore…
July 2, 2009 at 10:14 pm
So does this work like Evangelion Jo? Like even if youre not running the custom firmware it wont let you access the PSN store? Honestly sony is beginning to get ridiculous, they wont stop piracy by making things harder!
July 3, 2009 at 6:06 pm
yeah i want to download Rockband Unplugged Songs
July 5, 2009 at 1:03 am
Great job Sony. No one is going to pirate PSN games now. *Rolls eyes*
Damnit I cant get rockband unplugged songs now…
July 5, 2009 at 7:00 am
Can’t you just buy a new PSP, Don’t hack it and start downloading stuff from the unhacked one and transfer it to the hacked one. Or does everything on the PSN store do a version.txt check or more? And if you just give up…Buy an Apple iPod Touch and jailbreak it and unlock it.
July 8, 2009 at 7:02 am
There’s a very easy fix for this. First get media go for the PSP, but you’ll notice that it does a firmware check so download dark-alex’s usb version fake and change the firmware version to 5.50. This way you can download any content from the playstation store.
July 22, 2009 at 3:24 pm
I was gonna buy a ps3 to go with my 2 psps. WAS, way to go, sony…. no way im givin up cfw for remote play and psn.
