PS Vita Firmware 1.66 Released. Fixes 1.65 Ad-Hoc bug

Share

We were expecting a nice big update from Sony to add some new features, updates to the browser, PSN and more PSP title support. Maybe flash support in the browser, copy and paste support? But nooooo instead we get caps lock on the keyboard and that is the most significant thing that was updated. Big let down Sony. No to mention the pulled 1.65 update added a new ad-hoc bug. 1.66 fixes that at least. As expected it blocks the Motor Storm VHBL exploit and Everybody’s Tennis VHBL save game exploit. We knew that was coming….

1.66 Release notes

  • A “Notification Alert” option will be added to Settings, so you can toggle alerts on or off
  • “After 10 minutes” will be added to the time options under Power Save Settings
  • An Arrow icon will now appear when PS Vita finds new activities in the LiveArea
  • Caps Lock will be supported in the On Screen Keyboard

If there going to update they should at least fix the damn sleep bug, reach touch screen bug. Standby bug…The list goes on. Sony really need to sort out there @#%* and give us a decent update.

Yeah but they have no interest in making the experience with the Vita any better, with their only concern being the VHBL and stopping it. Screw bugs and flash support, they can’t allow you to play Super Mario on your dual analog touch screen since that’s so important. I think the devs who dwell here should make a deal with Sony, 6 months of ceased activity towards homebrew for flash support so our 300 dollar machines can FINALLY go to youtube. Something it shoulda been able to do by now already.

no new features = old  news. they’ve been doing this on the ps3/psp for a while now.

Wasn’t a big update. However I think the best part of the update is you can atleast set sleep mode to 10 mins instead of 5.

why wont they make never sleep?

I guess they left some things missing to add as update when a patch to hacks is necessary, they will not update only to admit that the firmware got hackd and need a fix.

So, the most significant thing is not the caps lock, but the hack fix. =/
Hope to see PSP Iso loaders in Vita Scene, no to support piracy, but Sony does not support many PSP titles games on PSN, so my backups will work.

LMAO We knew that sony was going to do this and yet the tryhard hackers keep trying to find pointless exploit, just go back to the psp and hack something that is easy and less detectable.

I have a feeling that flash support will not ever happen and that is just too big of a thing not to have when your biggest competition is smartphones. Oh and I guess the 3DS…

I miss people working on the psp… by the way, this is Sony guys.  You won’t see anything worth while in a firmware update for like 3yrs.  I could come back from 3yrs into the future and give you that firmware and it’d be like “oh… well now you can upload a video to twitter and facebook AT THE SAME TIME! Wait thats not that exciting”
