PlayStation Phone ( Xperia Play) Preview, Specs revealed

A Chinese forum has had some hands on time with the soon to be released, yet unofficial announced aka . This time round the spec’s are different and thankfully its now packing more of a punch in the GPU department. It now reportedly benchmarks close to 60 fps on the android Neocore benchmark.

So what’s new? Well its now officially branded in the photo’s as a Xperia mobile. So its under Sony’s Mobile division, Sony-Ericsson. The screen is 4″ 854 x 480 and the running a Qualcomm Adreno 205 GPU with 1GHz snapdragon. Its sporting a 5mp camera with LED flash that can also record 720p HD video. It has a standard battery capacity of 1,500mAh. However we are still in the dark as to whether or not it will play PS1 titles or PSP titles.

      I have 2 agree wit u on that one dude…I think the PSP Fone sux as well…I just prefer to have a Fone then mix wit Gaming….it just seem so hard N Confusing for me to work it out…..but yea oh well….what you gonna do about….the PSP-2 to is the interesting the most…..=)

        I think sony will release two psp one psp phone and normal psp. Because the kids that like psp have to buy a psp phone thats not a good idea.

      i kinda have to disagree, i mean if you think you can’t play games on a screen that small well 50 million people have bought the last few psps with screens of 4.3″ and this is 4″ so i guess sonys screwed if people are that desparate for the xtra 0.3″

        Umm…I think he was comparing the PSP phone with the old PSP’s(1000/2000/3000).My PSP 2000 with TA-088v3 has about 10″.I admit that I would miss those 6″ too if I would get a PSP Phone or a PSP Go…
        There are some home-consoles fanboys which think that the screen of the PSP 1000 was too small…I wonder what would they say about this xD

    This is good news. It looks like a cool phone that I will buy. Too much people in my country have the “pot hound” black berry phone. That phone sucks and why be like everyone else while you can be cool with a psp phone!

    I like it… I think it will play PSP games… Also might have its own games made with the double analog and all.
    Maybe with that nice processor we can have a much better emulation for N64? And think how nicely Win 98 will run?

    I believe this is what PSP Go should have been. PSP Go is a fail device IMO, but this new release of PSP + phone might shed a new light in the scene.

    i think this thing will only be good for idiots that has no phone and psp. seriously i will just buy a phone and a psp rather than buy this and if the keyboard is the same as the psp then this sucks as a phone if it can’t play any play station games then this sucks as a game console with the name PlayStationPhone

    pspgo = $200; xperia = $500. pspgo +xperia = $700!!! WTF!!!! i’ll buy a laptop instead. i just cant afford this thing im sure. but i think this is nice if u have deep pockets.

      it will probably be cheap, but you will have to sign a 2-3 year contract for a low price on a crappy cell network

    damn….i can´t wait to see it on my hands :D well…that´s if that little boy is going to play psp games or new games..if they release new games designed specially for this device they must be better than psp games….graphically speaking of course, because there is no point of having such a performance and such harware if they are going to make shitty games…. i am talking about “MINIS” i am not saying that minis are that bad but if they have sucha a powerful machine i mean….come on..take some advantage from it..right??.
    What it really caught my attention was the battery…is it a 1.500mah battery that you can take out? or is it integrated inside the phone itself? because my guess is that if you can take out the battery then i am pretty sure we are gonna be able to get spare batteries, just like we do for psp´s… that would be cool because if it´s gonna be a playstation phone then we are gonna need some spare batteries right? just to keep gaming on the go :D

    Don't think of it that way, i mean didn't you read all that shit? It's not like a Phone with Gaming accessories, i view it as PSP with Mobile accessories, a PSP with a free camera, instead of taking both your phone and your PSP, take the PSP phone, Millions of people play with their PSP Go' and they don't complain about screen size, LOOK AT THE DAMN PICTURE its just the same as the PSP Go screen. Now another thing. Think about it, people keep saying it will fall to the IPhone, I have both an Iphone And a PSP, now, the Iphone IS a phone, that can play games, NOW JUST WAIT, the games, look at the games, they're touch, which means in they're into the "Easy to Play" concept, they have little games such as "PvZ" and "Doodle Jump", yes they are fun, But ask anyone ANYONE IN THE WORLD (Does not include underage children or elderly), ask them if they would prefer Doodle Jump on they're phone, or God of War. The answer is obvious. Why buy PSPhone? because i consider it as an upgrade not update, but upgrade to the PSP. Fuck it, If it's camera is 5mp andcan take 720p HD video, then MAYBE the games will be 720p HD aswell? Hmm…idk, i'm not retarded. It's got Double Analogs! Which, normal PSP games don't support, so that means New games are in development for IT. Think about Hombrew games and apps, They'll run smoother (I hope), Fuck Iphone i don't want useless fart apps, I want ENTERTAINMENT AND A PHONE, I want PSPhone. So don't talk shit about the PSPhone or the PSP. Respect/support Sony for making them and Support/respect the devs here for hacking them.

    same f*cking problem as the DS lite: the puttons are way to thin. why must be al the consoles as thin as possible? this makes everything only worse. this is the reason i bought a psp 3000 instead of a go.

    i think the sales on psp 3xxx and go its good to go.

    but sony launch “again” their portable console.
    so…,its the “old” psp have to kick their ass by himself because all publisher game will be deal with game publisher????

    In all honesty im not sure if a 1Ghz is enough for this phone. I have an android phone with a 1ghz Hummingbird and it still is kind of laggy when I play my PSX emulator and the sound somtimes dsyncs. Im not sure what kind of proccesor is in a PSP (Since I just got mine) But 1Ghz is not enough to play PSP games and use it as a phone.

    If Sony makes it so it does play PSP games I think it will be somthing along the lines of having to put it in PSP mode where you wont be able to use the phone functions. That way it can devote all the proccesor to the gaming aspect.

    Idk while I am excited for the device I am somewhat skeptical of its current power
