More PSP2 / PSP-4000 Rumors – Dual analogue sticks

More PSP2 / PSP-4000 Rumors...

More / Rumours...

Here’s some fresh new / rumors via Pocket Gamer. They also seem to have an insider source working on the new PSP hardware that claims the or (whatever Sony want to call it) will have a sliding touchscreen and dual analogue sticks… Nice, like most PSP gamers dual sticks has been on my wish list.

Here’s the rumor from Chris James @ Pocket Gamer:

There’s also been a lot of talk about how Sony might react to the competition on offer from the phenomenal success of Apple’s iPhone and iPod touch.

Unsurprisingly the console manufacturer has been comparatively mute in both cases, denying the existence of a PSP sequel and any threat from Apple. However, having spoken to an insider source – who’s not Dave Perry, but is a developer working on the new hardware – we can reveal that the new handheld will arrive before Christmas and will be far more similar to the iPhone than the current device.

Like Apple’s newcomer, the PSP 2 will be a compact device with a large touchscreen. However, where Sony’s machine has the edge is when the touchscreen is slid open as it reveals familiar buttons, D-pads and – praise the Lord of Handhelds – dual analogue controls.

This new format should allow for both existing hardcore console titles as well as simpler touchscreen games along the lines of those currently available in the App Store. And like the App Store, (and in the absence of UMD), the games will all be available for digital download via the PlayStation Store.

Although this hasn’t been confirmed, our speculation is that Sony’s initial plans for a small upgrade to a PSP 4000 model have since been accelerated by the success of the iPhone and arrival of Nintendo DSi.

As yet those are all the details we have, but we understand the full specs and pricing will be unveiled at E3 in June.

Hmmm very interesting and of course to be taken with a pinch of salt. I guess time will tell come E3 time in June. Not too far away…..

Oh! NOW they add dual analog. I wouldn’t be surprised if they release L2 and R2 in their next version of the psp.

If they do that then we can have PS2 ports..Surely the PSP2 would be able to play on PS2 games.

Hmm… actually this time I gotta side with the fact that all of this rumors stuff might be true. Remember what happened last time with the 3000? They gave us a one month notice before it came out. Way to raise the hype Sony, they didn’t even bother to tell us that during E3, they just said “Rachet and clank Bundle”.

Sony’s in denial, and countless times they have denied the existence of a next gen console. HOWEVER this time around, two inside sources confirmed it ( though honestly, I shouldn’t be calling David Perry one since after 2moons came out it was pretty stupid, just a badly translated Dekaron; which was a Korean mmorpg).

Basically, what I’m trying to say is theres a good chance this is going to be coming out by the end of the year or beginning of next year.

Yes I agree, there has to be some truth to these rumors. It happened the same with the PSP-3000. People said no its just a rumor. However it all came true when it was really released.

Yeah that’s the mentality of the game industry these days, they say one thing and mean another later.

Ha just think if the PSP-4000 only adds a camera that would be lame. I think to add backwards compatibility by using a mini blu-ray drive that would also take the UMD’s would be great. But the cost of mini blu-ray would not make the PSP cheap….

    Don’t really care much.
My PSP already plays all my old Nintendo games and stuff (thanks to all the hackers!).
Heck 90% of the time, I’m using it for things Sony never intended and I rarely play PSP games on it.
It’s my MP3 player, movie-watcher, book-reader, all-my-old-game-systems-rolled-up-into-one pocket babysitter! And as a bonus, plays PSP games too.

I’ll only consider a “psp2″ after it’s been hacked AND fitted with a ps2 emu.

i am sure that will happen! lets just hope it has a handy 128 Bit RAM or higher. That will be awesome! PS2 games in your pocket.

I totally agree. I spend about 70% of my time reading books, 20% playing old emulators games, and maybe 10% playing PSP games.

If Sony is smart, they will make it a semi-open platform like the PS3 from the start. (i.e. able to run homebrew, but security features to prevent playing copied games.)

Yeah, it’d be nice if Sony saw the Pandora as a threat too. The people want homebrew!

Looks like a bigger screen, and that would mean better resolution for games, I can already see a ps2 emu.
I want beer for this! Homebrew =)

At the current price of a new PSP, about $169 USD, this new PSP with all these bells and whistles would have to be at least $249 or higher, Games would most likely be $50 a pop, and the probability of it being hacked quickly is slim to none. Sony is no fool, the PS3 has not been hacked so far as to playing anything more than backups of PS2 games if u happen to have one with an EMOengine in it. Someone stole my PSP recently and Im going to buy the red god of war one tomorrow. That should last me a couple years until this new thing gets cheaper and hacked. Wait, my PS3 isnt hacked yet…. so probably longer than that.

Check into the Popsloader program, or the PopStation converter to make an EBoot of your PS games.

BTW: Larger screen does not mean better resolution. There’s lots of old DOS and Win95 era laptops with 12-inch screens and 800×600 resolution. But, we can always hope.

holy…mother…F***ER! wth!! it looks so awesome man wth i can’t w8 4 it but the price OH EM GEEE probably like about $500 – $1000 it has to be so expensive cos if it has BLU-ray like my ps3 and it would have backwards compatibility and the umd port it still there that would be gr8 but for me i like MGA series on psp and i have a 3000 FW 5.50 and yeah i hope this had backwards compatibility cos i am gonna *FU*K my self lol i would rlly h8 if it did not but even it, it dosen’t haev BW Compatibility then i would trade all my psp 3000 and all my games (23) in to get that BUT i …… never mind but this is mind blowing guys that’s what i say last…

This would be impossible because the games are coded for only one analouge stick. not two. so there would be no use.
