METAL GEAR SOLID: RETROSPECTIVE

Share

is a game that has always been held in high regard by any fan, but with the huge amount of sequels, spinoffs and rehashes, does the original game still shine brighter than the rest? Well yes, when you play it on your dusty on your old CRT you can still feel the magical sense of something new and fresh. Something the was always known for, and something that is seldom pushed for these days because of companies’ lack of confidence in new IPs.

Rather than simply viewing this game through rose tinted nostalgia shaped glasses. It’s always fun to draw from the past to give a clear picture of the long lost days of video gaming. 1998 was a long time ago, but I still remember all the hype and the commotion that MGS created among class mates. Everyone loved the graphics, they loved the stealth action and they really loved the choice of stealth weapons this game used. I remember inviting friends round, and although we’d both beat the game, there was always a different way to go about doing things, and a lot of secret puzzles. I remember being shocked when a friend of mine managed to execute every guard in a room without causing an alert, whilst gaining a ton of items I could’ve done with at that point of the game. This same area of the game I would painstakingly stealth my way through which took alot of time and left me low on supplies. Like mentioned above, one of the most interesting aspects of this game was the fact that you could go at it your own way. While it didn’t really affect the story it would dictate the way you chose to play the game hour laters and it might make the game a little harder or a little easier for you.

Back in 98 the game rose up to critical acclaim gaining scores ranging from 80 to 90+. This is a feat that only the most prolific game titles have achieved. “Resident Evil 2″ is but one of them.

Reviews from back around MGS release all favour the new and interesting mechanics and the clean and polished graphics. Reviews from the here and now make note of how important this game is/was for the industry and what an eye-opening game this was. The production of this game was huge and it is crystal clear that a massive amount of love and dedication went in to creating it. Metal Gear Solid was always go down in history as one of the game industry’s’ greatest achievements.

On the 28th of August 2012, Metal Gear Solid is just one of 100 Playstation games that you will be able to play wherever you are, (Rose-tinted specticals are optional). Metal Gear Solid will be waiting on your , ready to join you and thrill you on you way to work, with your mates, or like many of you on the sofa at home. Don’t worry we’ll keep your secret.

Oh wait, now when the update comes out, I can buy this, and then buy the Metal Gear Solid HD collection and actually have the FULL MGS series on my Vita. I was pissed that the HD collection was missing MGS1.

That’s what these Retrospectives seem to be getting it. I think they’re building up hype for the 1.80 update. Loads of games are waiting for us. Some pretty cool ones at that.

I had just the demo of the game. So, I played the beggining about 50 times. hahaha
About 2008 I downloaded and burned the game, and finally finished it.
    It’s fucking amazing!
