Its the custom firmware enabled PSP owners perfect plug in. Game Categories v8 changelog:
- UTF-8 support was not correctly implemented for language files, fixed.
- Improved Context Menu Mode, now shows a larger number of items instead of only four.
- Added ability to completely hide uncategorized even if there are files floating around (see readme for instructions).
- Tried to fix a rather strange crash that occured in all sorts of instances.

October 25, 2009 at 1:54 pm
Lol same here. And partially due to the fact I really don’t have anything but backups on my memory stick. Maybe it’s time to convert those old psx games to eboots.

V8 is a huge change from V7, depending on how you use it. You can now hide the uncategorized folder, plus more categories are displayed in the menu now (in contextual view). Before only 4 categories were visible without scrolling, now you can see 6.
October 24, 2009 at 7:15 pm
wow I was using a really old one I found by chance I am definitely updating. altho the one I have has performed flawlessly
October 24, 2009 at 7:26 pm
Finally get to hide my uncategorized.
October 24, 2009 at 7:26 pm
It wont be long until SONY decides to copy this…..like they copied DAX’s pspstates plugin
October 25, 2009 at 6:37 am
Thats true, they should also copy the usb charge mode (as soon as its plugged in, it starts charging) So you don’t have to sit in USB mode to charge your PSP via usb.
October 25, 2009 at 6:06 pm
Yeah that would be cool….but i think Bubletune should still patent this or something same as for the Noobz team, they should patent their usb charge plugin……I have actually never used that plugin…..would u have a link to where I can download it on this site….

October 24, 2009 at 11:59 pm
It works with every CFW version. Did you even read the instructions???
You have to name every folder to begin with CAT_
And you have to enable the plugin in the VSH.TXT file.
October 24, 2009 at 10:08 pm
You need to create folders inside your game and iso folders prefixed with “CAT_”.
October 24, 2009 at 10:30 pm
right…………read da instruction!!
October 24, 2009 at 10:58 pm
YESSS…another update! This is one awesome little plugin. Yay, now I can hide my uncategorized and even see more listed in the menu.

Hey got a problem here. Running 5.50 GEN-D2 on a PSP 1000 and tried this on both Categories v7 and the new v8 but still doesnt work. I get all my folders and everything and all my emulators, cso/iso’s, etc, except for one cso. Naruto Shippuuden Legends: Akatsuki Rising. I made a folder in my ISO folder named ISO UMD Backups and placed both Need For Speed Shift and the Naruto game both in it and when I went on my psp, it only shows Need For Speed and Naruto has disappeared. I tried this several times and I’m not sure what’s wrong. I deleted the folder and made a new one several times and everything else is working good its just that one game doesnt show up. All my other games, homebrew and everything else show except that one game. Could someone help me out ? Thanks.

You’re not supposed to have any folders inside your ISO folder.
October 25, 2009 at 7:50 am
Yes you can, just create a new folder in your ISO folder and Rename it CAT_(insert name here) then put all your game backups inside that folder. It’s working for me.
October 24, 2009 at 11:49 pm
I deleted Need for Speed Shift off my MS and then I created a new folder called CAT_My ISO’s and Naruto can be played from there, but when I place Need for Speed in the same folder only Need For Speed can be seen and Naruto has disappeared once again
.. what the hell is the matter with this stupid thing ??!!!
October 25, 2009 at 12:09 am
Btw, in case anyone was wondering…
If you create the exact same category in both your ISO folder and your PSP/GAME folder, the category will merge into one.
In other words, if you have puzzle games in your ISO folder and you also have puzzle game EBOOTs in your PSP/GAME folder, if you create a folder in each place named “CAT_Puzzles”, the games from both folders will merge into one category on your XMB menu.

i installed and everything worked in D2 however under my apps part the UPDATE with Gen did not show and Hellcat would not start. it would say game cannot start. anyone know why
October 25, 2009 at 3:00 am
Looks like i have to have the UPDATE and Hellcat in the game and uncategorized to work
October 25, 2009 at 4:16 am
It’s amazing. Just makes the PSP complete.
October 25, 2009 at 5:00 am
“UMD ISO Copies” haha.. i’m gonna rename that to something else.
October 25, 2009 at 7:00 am
I really need to get this.
October 25, 2009 at 7:27 am
does anyone know if pspstates works on gen 5.50 d2? or Gen b?
October 25, 2009 at 7:28 am
Is it possible to have to (Updates) which is usually supposed to be in the PSP\GAME\UPDATE folder.
So the Gen B2 & the Gen D will be in there & both can work.
October 25, 2009 at 7:29 pm
it lookes like you still have to keep UPDATES in the game menu and inreturn will put it in the uncategorized section. i had to do that with UPDATE and Hellcat Recovery for when i put it in my apps category it did not even show the update and Hellcat would not start.. ODD.
oh well.
gotta love all these programs for the psp.. man mine is sooo hooked up.
can switch between 5.00 and 5.50 Gen D2 with a different VSH menu for each with the WINDOWS 7 CTF that has the XBOX306 gameboot. AWESOME.
Keep em Coming
October 25, 2009 at 10:10 pm
Certain apps, themselves, look for files to be in specific areas, hence why some of them have to say uncategorized. That’s the only thing I can think of that would make them not run, when put in to the CAT folders.

Hi, after I updated to v8 from v7, all my official PSN demos stopped working. Anyone have any idea why? They worked fine with v7, but gave me the “Game could not be started (80020146)” error when i updated.
October 26, 2009 at 3:48 pm
*Edit*
The demos start to work after I take them out of the category folders and place them in the GAME folder. Any help would be appreciated.

Take it this is not compatible with Ultimate VSH Menu due to the conflicting vsh.txt files in the seplugins folder, or is there a way around that?
Also you cant seem to reorder xmb icons using psp filer anymore.
October 28, 2009 at 4:07 pm
I’m not sure about this, but I think you can copy the text from the game categories vsh.txt file and paste it into the existing vsh.txt file in your seplugins folder.
October 28, 2009 at 5:04 pm
thanks S0LID that works great.
October 31, 2009 at 8:21 pm
@SOLID I have this same error, happens to me on Patapon 2, but it works when i take it out of the CAT_ folder as well. Think i might fall back to v7 till this gets fixed
November 6, 2009 at 11:57 am
in which folder can you create the CAT_ folders?
