                                                   Work in Progress

How To Play PSX Games On PSP

This tutorial is designed for CFW 3.80m33-4 User’s to help the growing number of new members who are having trouble with this issue.

This tutorial can be used in conjunction with Spikersofts How To Convert PSX ISO To PSP EBOOT
http://pspslimhacks.com/forum/index.php/topic,167.0.html just skip to Section 3.

   Credits:
PspSlimHacks.com - for putting up with me.
Spikersofts - How To Convert PSX ISO To PSP EBOOT
Our Members - This tutorial was created mostly from Information posted by our members.
I have taken the Time to compile it here in one easy to use guide.

List of programs we will be using:

   Psx game cd or iso
   Alcohol 120% trail version
   http://www.free-downloads.net/programs/Alcohol_120_

   Updated files 1-21-08

   PSX2PSP v.1.2 ~ includes picture library
   1 of 2 http://rapidshare.com/files/85356211/PSX2PSP_popstation.part1.rar
   2 of 2 http://rapidshare.com/files/85359322/PSX2PSP_popstation.part2.rar

3.80 m33 pops loader v2 – you can replace with 3.71m33 pops loader if running 3.71m33.
   http://dax.st/380m33popsloader_v2.rar

   All the old pops man files 3.0 - 3.72 – http://rapidshare.com/files/93325384/popsloader.rar

Section one: Convert PSX game cd to iso.

First we need to convert our psx game cd to an iso image. To due this we will use Alcohol 120% so install it now.

(Could replace with other iso-ripping program but I never have problems with this one)

After you install the program go ahead and drop your psx game into your cd-rom drive.
Open up alcohol 120 on the left panel you should see IMAGE MAKING WIZARD select it.
In the pop up window make sure the bottom left box labeled DATATYPE is selected to play station then click next.

Select a location to output your image, the image name box should auto fill for you if not just select something simple.
The image format box on the right should read CloneCD Image File (*.cdd), once done click Start

It could take up to 20 minutes to rip your cd. Once finished continue to Section 2.

Section 2: Convert PSX Iso to PSP eboot

You can now Use Spikersofts How To Convert PSX ISO To PSP EBOOT
   http://pspslimhacks.com/forum/index.php/topic,167.0.html

Or you can use the following methods below.

   Single disk psx games:

First we need to set up our psx2psp. Extract PSX2PSP v1.2.rar somewhere on your pc.
For this guide we will use C:\ PSX2PSP.
We are going to be using THEME mode for this tutorial,
there should be a short cut in C:\ PSX2PSP click it now.
Select convert menu you should see the following

   setting:

ISO/PBP File: select the .img we created in the previous section.
Output PBP Folder: where you want your eboot to go.

The rest should auto-fill for you when you select your ISO/PBP File. If not

Game title: name of game doh
Save title: same as game title
Game ID: it needs to looks like this but be careful not to use one that you already have
or you might end up with save problems. example:SLUS00993
Save ID: same as game id

Next select convert, this might take awhile. When finished proceed to section 3.

   Multidisc psx games:
not inculde yet will get this done asap

Section 3: Setting up our pops loader v2

   Extracted the 3.80 m33 pops loader v2 - http://dax.st/380m33popsloader_v2.rar
Copy the seplugins folder to the root of your memory stick: ms0:/seplugins
The when need to enable the pops loader to be seen in recovery mode.
we due this by creating a file call pops.txt in: ms0:/seplugins and in this file we write: ms0:/seplugins/popsloader.prx

Next we need set-up all the old pops man files so we can play all our psx games,
some games need older versions of the pops files to run.
   We will use http://rapidshare.com/files/93325384/popsloader.rar
Extract and copy all the Sony pops files to the root of your memory stick

Next we need to copy our game over to ms0\PSP\GAME folder.

We will now reboot our psp into recovery mode(hold right trigger while powering on the psp),
to enable pops loader and a few other options.
Once in recovery mode when need to select configuration, make sure the following are set correctly.

Game Folder Homebrew (currently 3.80 kernel)
UMD mode (currently m33 driver –no umd-

Back out to main menu and select plugins, make sure that popsloader.prx is enabled.
If you due not see it here you did not create the pops.txt correctly or at all. Exit out and let the psp load.

When the xmb has loaded select game/ memory card you should now see your psx game, select it.
First you should see a warning screen next you should have a black screen with a list of pops to choose from.
I suggest you try “original from flash” you should see the ps1 load screen in a few seconds your game should load.
Now enjoy your favorite psx games on your psp.

If you receive a black screen instead of your game loading after selecting your pops.
you may need to select a older version.
To due this you need to reload the game and hold the right trigger during the warning screen.
This should enable to choose a different pops play with them and see what works for you.
If all this fails you may have a game that is not compatible with the pops loader yet.
hopefully in the future they will add support for it you can find info on unsupported psx game from google.

I hope you find this tutorial use full.

Just curious as to why we need the HotShots Golf 2 EBOOT for converting PS1 games.  What does having that file do for the conversion process.  Also, will buying the HotShots Golf 2 game from the PS3 store provide us with the correct files we need or has Sony caught on and some how patched that game so it can't be used in PS1 game conversions.  I am very much against video game piracy and if buying the game will provide us with the right files then I would rather do that then search google for a free copy.  I mean, after all it is only 6 bucks for a legal copy.

You should update those screenshots with clear
ones. Use the 'Print Screen' button on your keyboard.
It'll copy your desktop to your clipboard. Just copy
and paste into paint. Tongue

The 2 part .rar file for psx2psp, I'm assuming that is a typical multipart .rar file where all I have to do is unrar the part 1 and it will unrar both parts.  Just wondering because I was able to unrar part 1 fine but when I tried to unrar part 2 it came up with a CRC error.

The step involving seplugins.rar has a flaw... if it even is. It looks like you want to uncompress it into the root folder because it already is an seplugins folder.

I am having a problem...after I have enabled popsloader in the recovery plugins menu...when I go to the game mem card option in XMB my game shows up, but when I click on it my PSP freezes(just shows my background...nothing else at all) I have tried changing to all the different -NO UMD- options (M33 driver, Sony ****, and if OE one) and none of these would work either....what am I doing wrong??

-EDIT-  Got it to work...I was using 3.90 M33-2...I guess thats why...im on 3.80 M33-5 now..but it still freezes if i try to get custom fonts/gameboots/coldboot/volume bar....but I guess I can use the normal ones

2 questions still

1. Any Ideas as to why my PSP freezes when I have custom XMB elements???
2. is there a popsloader for 3.90M33-X???

-EDIT-   Fixed it...PSX games are now playing on 3.90 M33-2...I havent tried adding any custom XMB stuff though
