Its in German, but you get the Idea. I wasn’t updating to 5.50 to test it
Posted in the dark-alex.org forums. It seems that Sony have removed tiff image file support completely with this new patch. I’m surprised it took Sony so long. Only some 3 years after the first tiff exploits? If you have any tiff files in your Memory stick, it will now show up and incompatible.
** Edit we have learned to they haven’t removed tiff support more of a bug which is present in extra transparency layer support. **
Some users report that standby mode doesn’t work any more on their PSP’s. While others have posted videos on youtube proving it does work….So not all PSP’s are effected by the bug. Proof maybe the firmware update was released early to patch against HEN? So if your wanting to try HEN when its released I suggest you keep away from that Network update button in your PSP’s XMB!
So it looks like we will have Firmware 5.51 soon I guess?
Also its interesting to add from DAX’s website sceners.org 5.50 hasn’t yet been decrypted.
Between those fixes it’s the recent TIFF exploit that was found and that it’s still under development, and it seems that there are also some bugs, like one that literally fucks the standby.
What do you think about those “new features”? Have you got any bugs like those or can confirm the standby one?
Edit: Seems like this new update has the encryption tables changed (at least the 1g one), as it can’t be decrypted with latest psardumper. Anyway, won’t be probably a problem.

your a fool if you update your firmware to 5.50 ur making ur life difficult
April 23, 2009 at 11:15 am
Just convert your tiffs to pngs or gifs or whatever you like and stop bitchin’. That is, if you feel like updating to 5.50, for which I see no reason =\
April 23, 2009 at 7:26 pm
you obviously don’t know why they stopped making tiffs compatible do you…
April 23, 2009 at 12:38 pm
In v5.50 there’s not that many advantages in upgrading so you should stay put.
April 23, 2009 at 3:02 pm
I wish SONY would make it absolutly essential to upgrade to the latest firmware to play the latest games to stop piracy. Those who want homebrew, fair enough, but the games should have some actual code checks in place to make sure it is the legit latest version of firmware and CFW. I am all of a sudden against pirace on the PSP, even though I have been there myself.
April 23, 2009 at 7:24 pm
If it was absolutely essential to update, they would start putting crap on the updates. And having a code on the psp to check every game available to see if it is o.k. would take too much memory.
And if they think that putting the games on cards will work for the new psp’s, just look at the ds then.
April 23, 2009 at 3:41 pm
hea felix you cant just convert the tiff files to pngs of gifs unless if they are regular pictures. if they are the exploit hack it WONT WORK converting the files
April 23, 2009 at 4:46 pm
well the psp-3000 is going to be hacked sooner or later anyways.
just stay away from updates.
April 23, 2009 at 4:57 pm
If Sony would sell downloded games for $5 to $10 then I think a lot of people won’t have to hack their PSP anymore. Buying games for $50 is sick and plain madness.
April 23, 2009 at 7:12 pm
Why the fuck would anyone sell their games for $5 to $10? That’s no profit what-so-ever. PSP games aren’t $50 either.
April 24, 2009 at 11:05 am
5 – 10 $ should do the job. And psp games are about 35$. Well, that is expensive considering I bought my psp for 180$ and 5 games = a BRAND NEW PSP. 5-10$ would cover manufacturing costs and they could make profit by VOLUME. I seriously would never bother with all this if I was not get RIPPED OFF by sony.
April 23, 2009 at 7:12 pm
It was pretty obvious from the beginning that sony’s new 5.50 Official firmware would implement that security anyway.
April 23, 2009 at 9:38 pm
Site after Site is spreading this FALSE information.
People don’t bother to check if these claims are true or not.
SONY did NOT remove TIFF support. TIFFs WORK fine.
They just blocked our TIFF EXPLOIT.
I suppose that a fool was using the TIFF EXPLOIT for testing TIFF support, instead of a normal TIFF.
That’s an understandable mistake since TIFFS are a rarely used format, but this has gotten out of hand.
“It takes one bad apple to spoil a bunch.”

I can honestly say that I have never pirated a game on the PSP instead of buying it. The only reason I got a PSP (and I only got mine less than 2 months ago), was for the homebrew. The PSP has the best emulators on it.
Maybe Sony should consider a new direction and release emulators and sell the old roms for like $1/each or so in the PSN store.
May 5, 2009 at 4:29 am
And I suppose you own all the actual games for the ROMS/ISOs you play on your emulator? If you don’t then that is piracy also
April 23, 2009 at 10:11 pm
NO…NO…NO
You may want to edit this post. Many people have got this messed up. They didn’t remove TIFF support, just the extra transparency layer support that had the bug.

to kenzya. Where I live, a new Hot games (umd) can easily reach over than $50 because rule of the market (supply & demand) is applies. But with downloded game there is no more of that rule and no more costs ( rent, second or third hand profit, etc.) If they can sell older umd games for $15 to $20, I bet they can sell it for $5 or less by download and still make tons of money. If 1000.000 people would buy a new game for $40 think how many people (worldwide) will buy at the rate of $10 by download. Technolgy should make things cheaper not higher.
April 24, 2009 at 10:13 am
Things that sony should do to reduce piracy:
1)neo1.3 is absolutely right..the games should be made cheaper so more ppl will buy them leading to more profits and less piracy..why would anybody play a pirated copy of ,say, killzone or god of war if the original is available for only 10D?the present cost of these games is 20D(platinum editions).
2)latest firmware must be made essential to play new games(already implemented in the playstation store, u need the latest firmware to download games)
3)homebrew should be enabled by sony in the upcoming firmwares and only pirated games should be fought against… doing this will mean a lot of hackers like DarK AleX and davee will stop working to crack the psp.. because nobody supports pirated ISO’s as much as homebrew..so the intensity and the attention given to hack a psp will be greately reduced
and your own views if u got any..

1) People pirate for more than simply saving money. If there is a supply for free items, there will be a demand. There has to be incentive to purchasing a game to stop piracy, same with the music industry.
2) This would be a good way to stop people from playing new games, but if someone already has the library on .iso it wouldn’t really matter. I am sure it would force some people to purchase games they would have otherwise downloaded, but it wouldn’t change much at this point.
3) Homebrew and piracy go hand in hand. If you offer the ability to do one, someone will find a way to do the other. I am not trying to say that DA or Davee do it simply for piracy, but even if they cracked the 3000 w/o .iso support, someone would come along with an app that did it anyway.
April 24, 2009 at 5:00 pm
Homebrew support includes emulators, though. Sony probably figures that being able to play any game from NES to PSX reduces anyone’s incentive to buy new games. Plus it means nobody could sell games like “Genesis Collection”, “Street Fighter Alpha3″, etc. It might help the PSP/PSP2 overall, but I doubt Sony sees it that way.
April 24, 2009 at 9:34 pm
Hahahahahahahahah Thats what sony gets for being mean

“Homebrew support includes emulators, though. Sony probably figures that being able to play any game from NES to PSX reduces anyone’s incentive to buy new games. ”
Exactly! The quality of most PSP games is so poor that they aren’t even worth pirating.
If they can come up with something better that incorporates porting the non-working Playstation games to the psp, the demand would be much greater and sales would increase. This same logic would apply to putting movies onto UMD discs and selling them in game stores. If they can make more money from it why not?
The name Sony Playstation Portable is named “Playstation” for a very good reason.
Here’s a compatibility list for Sony to consider:

to late but will pandora still work
April 25, 2009 at 8:18 am
Pandora battery does not work for the PSP 3000 series. A TIFF exploit was discovered, which now is a open door for PSP 3000 owners. (Such as myself! =D)
April 25, 2009 at 8:19 am
Also, screw the new update anyway. FW 5.03 is staying on my PSP till Dave or DarkAlex releases HEN.
April 26, 2009 at 9:24 pm

April 27, 2009 at 3:12 am
I don’t know why people really interested in buying shit psp games which doesn’t even worth wasting your time pirating it !!!!!!!!!! The games are really crap , I dont’ understand why they produce such crap?!?!?!
I myself run on M33-6 and have never ever bought a game , if sony accepts the defeat a makes homebrew as a default with it’s firmware , I’ll support.
But bloody bastards only think about their profit and don’t even give a …. about what customer (us) think.
April 27, 2009 at 3:21 pm
Who thinks Sony should do a firmware which can let us play homebrews and emulators =D
April 27, 2009 at 4:31 pm
@#23: Sony did at the very beginning of PSP, but they felt it was benefitless so they created UMD. Damn Sony headquarters…T_T

i could care less about the psp game costs….i only want to use it to play old console games (nes, snes, genesis and such.) why not offer download like the wii does for that stuff? then i wouldn’t have to try and hack my damn psp…
