Dark Alex / M33 Universal PSP Unbricker v3

Universal Unbricker v3

Dark Alex / M33 Universal PSP Unbricker v3 has been released, this new update of the unbricker tool for the PSP Slim and regular fat PSP’s. The unbricker will now install 3.71 M33-2 directly, instead of the initial 3.71 M33 release and the no-display bug for PSP Slim units has been fixed. The screen will now display the install text.

Source: Dark_AleX

Installation:

- If you have already a pandora ms, don’t do this part. Otherwise,
format an ms using c+d mspformat or any other tool that allows to move
partition to ~250kb from first sector

Remove ms, usb and connect again usb and ms.
Make PSP and PSP/GAME dirs.

- Copy despertar_cementerio to PSP/GAME/

- Download 1.50, 3.40 and 3.71 update eboots and copy them to ms root with
150.PBP, 340.PBP and 371.PBP names.

- Use the app under a cfw with 2.x or 3.x kernel (be sure that kernel is
selected on recovery to the correct one (2.x or 3.x))

- Once finished, u will have msipl.bin on root. If you already have a pandora
ms, you don’t have to do this step (ipl doesn’t changes lol), otherwise,
use c+d msinst to install ipl on ms; or use dd command from unix, or any
hex-edit program to write on sector 16 on the physical drive.

- Now you can delete 340 and 150 PBP’s, as they won’t be used more; but 371.PBP
will be used for unbricker, so don’t delete it.

- Now you have an universal pandora ms ready to go, and you just need a proper
battery. If you have 1.50 kernel access, use c+d tool. Otherwise, use corly149 tool.

Battery and ms will work on all psp and slims to this date.

Unbricking:

- Press X to install 3.71M33.

- Press O to install original 3.71 (rest of the process as the X option)

- Press ["] to dump nand to nand-dump.bin. When done, psp will auto shutdown.

- Press L+R+HOME+start to restore nand from nand-dump.bin

This proccess is very dangerous, and you should *just* use it if it’s your
last chance to get it working.

This is a physical restore process (not a logical one), and will try to make
a 100% exact clon of the dump.

If you are working with a dump that isn’t yours, you will get either a brick
or a corrupt idstorage, depending on the firmware.

If while you are restoring your psp have got any damaged block more than
when you dumped it, you might also get a brick, depending on what block is it.

Works for both PSP and PSP Slim.

Digg!

ok here i am again.. just to set things straight..

    1. the old fat battery DO NOT WORK for the new psp slim
    2. it hardly fits into the battery case and you DEFINATELY cannot close the case anyway

i returned my psp slim and exchanged it with the old fat psp instead..

    now i am stuck..

Download 1.50, 3.40 and 3.71 update eboots and copy them to ms root with
    150.PBP, 340.PBP and 371.PBP names. (DONE)

    - Use the app under a cfw with 2.x or 3.x kernel (be sure that kernel is
selected on recovery to the correct one (2.x or 3.x)) (????)

as a noob, i am totally clueless as to the instruction above.. i hope somebody can clarify that step..

again, many thanks for any help on this..

All worked fine for me. Many Thanks.

However I have noticed that initially when going into PSP after installation of CFW the screen is very bright and so I have to go to theme and re-apply the theme for original inorder to display the menus clearer……But when going into games they seem to be that much more less in contrast/brightness/sharpness. Also when going to save or load the screen at this point goes very light again as it was just after hacking??……This occurs with the FAT and Slim PSP’s??

    Any fixes for this?

    Thanks

i’ve unbricked my psp successfully with this method, thanks alot
but when i tried to recover my p-battery by running p-battery creator on my just-unbricked psp
which is now already cfw 3.71 m33-2, it didnt work
is it supposed to be able to run homebrew after all the pandora work?
or do i need to install other things?

This guide actually worked perfectly fine for me. Just one problem though, every time I put the battery into ANY PSP it auto starts the unbricker/downgrade. Of course I chose custom firmware 3.71 M33 to be installed. When I finished installing it, I push X to shut down PSP and then I turn it back on and get the same menu again. The only way for me to get pass this menu is to pull the battery out and plug the adaptor in. Any other solutions?

NOTE: The good side of this is that anyone can give me their PSP as OFW and all I have to do is put the battery into their PSP and it becomes custom firmware. :)

    Unbricking…

My fat PSP had Dark Alex’s 3.40 OE-A for a long time. Tonight I tried to use Pandora to install 3.71 M33 and instead I ended up seriously bricking my PSP. How can I get this thing unbricked aside from sending it to Sony? I was able to use the UPMS to create a pandora MS and battery, as far as I can tell, but the first time I tried to boot into the UL the thing bricked on me instead. Now when I go to power on the thing just lights the power light, no bootup, black screen.
