DaedalusX64 Public Beta 1

Share

is back from the dead, in the form of Daedalusx64 – taken over by various PSP dev’s after the disappearance of StrmnNrmn (Presumed MIA). Chilly Willy, Hlide, Wally, Howard0su and Kreationz have been working together on DaedalusX64 Public Beta 1. This release features many bug fixes over StrmnNrmn’s work and some speed improvements through optimised code. Beta 1 also includes TV-out support, nice!

The question is…does this work better than deadaelus14?

  • Noob

in other words means does this work?

  • thisiscrap

none of these n64 emulators work well enough to be enjoyable. don’t get your hopes up. it’s good if, let’s say, you like looking at the main menues of games, but if you actually want to play it then don’t bother. please, developers, i appreciate what you are doing, but don’t release something unless it works.

    • Twiztid

hmmm maybe because its on a effin PSP… so smart-a** i wanna see you make a running N64 emulator… huh? can’t do it can you? don’t talk sh*t… its not the original system so of course it won’t be the same… plus its a BETA do you know what that is? no? well shut the F*ck up! have a nice day

  • IeUaN

y yu shut up about it not working, atleast they are trying to get it running and for yur information the are making alot of progress in speeding it up!!

unless you can do better dont critise!!

yes this is better the the previous R14 beta’s and yes it works on the phat!

  • dimy93

they should stop phat support-it make it even harder to make it work

  • CoryGrover

It does work noobert, and it’s PLENTY faster than any other release. They released this, a BETA, to show how much they’ve improved upon in just 3 weeks, showing that this is a very doable project. Don’t flame if you can’t come up with anything constructive to give to the community yourself.

    • Twiztid

      oh ho touche…

      well played my good sir…

      well played indeed

  • Naruto

@thisiscrap: Ok hot shot. If your so great with making emulators, why don’t you make a full running N64 emulator in 3 months?
If you can’t, then be thankful they’re making this. Plus, it takes time to make go full speed.

Good job guys. I cant wait to try this out.

  • PSP ruler

This is awesome! I just tried it and Zelda is working faster!

Test on my Phat 5.00M33 – 3 CFW, Game Zelda Masterquest. Posted and played 12-15FPS. Sadly no audio, but hell I’m not complaining! I LOVE YOU GUYS! (Don’t take that the wrong way.) Please, keep updating!

  • ragnarok01

can i use this for my slim 3.80m33-5???????????????????????????????

  • naruto

@ragnorak01: You might. Test it and find out.

  • http://None Bewaffled1

It is under “Slim emulators”. It works on my friends 3.90M33 (Slim). So it should work on yours.

  • okada-chan

hi, i played a n64 game on my nintendo wii and got through half the game. i was wonderin if there was a way to convert that save game to a n64 save game?

    • Twiztid

yes… if you save the file on an SD card through your Wii, you can plug it into your computer (the SD card that is), then you remove the save state and place it in either the “SAVEGAME” or “SAVESTATE” folder of the emulator

  • Tobbe

Since R14 didnt work for me and im used to R13, this is a HUGE improvement since R13! i think. much less lag

  • callous

Well i wonder when is the r15 going to be avaliable to download maybe next year probably. At least they are making some progress.

  • anonymous

Callous, r15 probably will never come out. The project has been taken to a different place where it’s now called DaedalusX64.

  • gurbz

They had the biggest damn arguement over the flipping opening picture for the emulator. Seriously couldnt settle it because of one guy ( not mentioning his name) always complaining about copyrighting to simply ignorance. Really ticked me off, others were ticked off too. He was still getting the credit for his work. I dont understand why he complained so much. Good to see they didnt use his design afterall. His background image was completely unrelated to nintendo 64 itself so I never understood why people chose it ( though it looked pretty AMAZING standalone).

  • gurbz

btw if anyone has tested this would you mind telling me how they fixed the problem of not enough buttons. ( no offence, i still think they can pull it off but an entire C pad? Wow) Im thinking your going to have to hold start and press the square, triangle, circle,X to process those buttons.

  • reach

nice improvement. i still wait for the day that it plays Zelda Ocarina of Time at full speed.

  • naruto

@gurbz: There’s a hardmod for your PSP called Razor X, which gives your PSP a 2nd nub. Im gonna try installing it once I get a screwdriver and a Solder Iron.

  • Dunte

Actually, Super Mario 64 is playable.

  • Dunte

Actually, every game seems to be playable. I play with frameskip on 2, sound off, and full screen. Plays well enough to be enjoyable. I’m playing super smash bro.s right now.

  • gurbz

Well yeah, I remember playing super mario 64 back in the day and all the c pad did was change the angle, along with the d pad. On the other hand, games like donkey kong 64 won’t cut it since most of your arsenal is located on the cpad while holding the “Z” button. Thats gonna cause a problem.

However the hardmod for the 2nd nub doesent sound bad. But what are the chances of them supporting it. No offence or anything but I’d rather get a new psp that came out with a 2nd nub fully supported but thats going to take years.

Its still nice to know that someone is taking action. I’m glad they finally decided on the eboot startup and icon though. As i already said “not listing his name” was very ignorant.

    • Twiztid

actually it would most likely support the 2nd nub, you’d have to change the settings in game… or if your skilled enough code the settings from one for PC to PSP… if you skilled enough that is ;)

  • gurbz

Dunte, as everyone knows I’m super busy and havent been able to test out any application in forever. Which is why i left this site in the first place. Since you have it installed already can you tell me what they did with the C-pad since I’m too lazy to google it

  • N64xPSP fan

Someone said they were using DaedalusX64 at 2 frame skip? Well I just tried the emulator out and it didn’t have any options to frame skip or turn off audio and such. Not sure if they used a different version or not.

Also if anyone can explain what that gamezone thing (not sure if that’s the right name) where there’s a box titled PSP and another titled N64 side by side in the preferences menu is then I’d be glad to find out what it does.

So far good work though. Runs faster than R13 for sure even with sound but not so sure about R14 since I couldn’t get it to run. But that just shows that this version is more capable.

  • Kebab

first time using this cant w8 can any one tell me a rom site ??

  • chxhvsdbfvzxhcjgfgxcgvzg49w3q…..sorry, I was suffering a seizure

….anyway, is Paper Mario playable on this N64 emulator? How abot PKMN, Wrestlemania 2000, or any of the Mario Parties? ( too lazy to do it myself) bdfxhdfhsgyukdzdtrxdthDY545T5Q54T54KE4TYSS

  • Thioti

    It´s works…. Yeah.
    :-)

  • thug_Ashes

    how to install…?

  • Dunte

    The D-pad=C buttons
    Mario Party 2 doesn’t work.
    Paper Mario does work.
They both freeze on the intro.
Legend of Zelda Ocarina Of Time doesn’t work.
    Perfect Dark doesn’t work.

  • thug_ashes

can anybody tell me how use this one…its my first time..guys please help…:-)

  • starscal

this works quite well on my slim 3.90 m33-3. it runs between 10-30 fps on mario 64. the gui is cool and easy to use. the only real downsides are the slightly slow speed and sloppy audio(but hey, even gpsp kai doesn’t have great audio). other than that, it’s an amazing improvement on the previous emulators. the psp dpad is toggled as the cpad using O button. it hasn’t crashed on me yet which is great. i can’t praise the devs enough. i can’t wait for an optimised version. i eagerly await the next release.

  • jon

its a hella lot bettr den r14

  • jon

i can play games i couldnt on the r14

  • Eduardo

Thanks for an amazing emulator, it runs well. But just like the previous releases two games still don’t run that I really want to play.

Castlevania 64 and Castlevania Legacy of Darkness do not run still. I would appreciate it if it is possible to try running these with each new releases. Otherwise some games do run amazingly and I love the improvement on this emulator, it shows all the hard work you guys out into it.

I can’t wait for other releases and I hope both Castlevania games are able to run. Here is my thanks and support for you guys.

  • NeCrom-X

A little better than the last one Super Mario 64 is still unplayable but Mario Kart 64 runs at almost full speed and is very playable. I’m gonna try the Mario Party games next.

  • Morphn8r

SSB runs a little bit better at the begining but this thing is kick ass!!! Thanks guys and keep up the good work!

  • Morphn8r

My PSP wouldnt let me run DaedalusR14 for some reason but this runs on my slim so they saved my ass from the Horror that is boredom!!!

  • malkie

10 times better than R13/14… Games playable, but way too much lag for me unless you dont like sound….

  • armando

idk mine keeps coming out corupted can you guys tell me how step by step

  • OMGTY!!

Best button configuration (in my opinion):

    X = A
    Square = B
    Circle = L
    Analog Stick = Analog stick
    C ^ = D-pad ^
    C v = D-pad v
    C > = D-pad >
    C < = D-pad <
    R = R
    L = Z
    Start = Start

    simple ^-^

  • Exodia1010

Meh, I’m still a R14 fan, mainly because I got it to work VERY well, but always gotta try someting new.

I’ll get back to you once I try it…

  • Exodia1010

Whoops, sorry for the double comment… my computer didn’t post it so I tried again… and I guess it worked both times…

Anyhow, I did try the X64 on my PSP-Slim running CFW 5.00 M33-3… and I must say that it was nicely laid out, like R14, but I felt that it was a direct copy of R14…

I appreciate how these new guys got it to work but I got my R14 to work 3x faster without any frameskip or removing sound…

But, good job, I’m not going to use it because I got R14 to work near-flawlessly but I really like how they picked it up. Congrats to them but I am not using it.

Hope they get better, I recommend working on the FPS than the TV-output to be perfectly honest.

Good luck, and Happy Holidays to everyone!

  • idkhow2dodis

hello everybody, i have firmware 5.02 on a psp slim and i AM LOST!!!!!!!!!!

every time i try to start the daedalus x64 program, it just says “this game cannot be started, the data is corrupted” WHY?!?!?!?

Can anyone tell me how to make daedalus x64 work?

    Oh, and please be specific

    • Twiztid

well if your not running custom firmware it will appear as a corrupted file because the official firmware WILL NOT AND CANNOT unless you get a specific 3.71 (the latest firmware available emulator) run it. enough said.

  • cgird44

i have a psp with version 5.02 on it and i have the same probelm as idkhow2dodis, whenver i try to open daedalus x64 it says the game cannot be started the data is corrupted, i downloaded the 1.5 kernel addon for v 5.02 and i cannot open that either….can someone who knows what they are doing please help me!

    • nob

You need custom firmware to use this. Go google up “Pandora battery” and that should get you in the right direction.

  • KG6ZVP

Thank you so much for releasing the beta! I know that this is not your final, but I really enjoy being able to try playing it a little faster every time you release it!
