The waiting is over for a shot at Daedalus R14 as PSP Homebrew developer Wally has released a beta build of Daedalus R14 (based of Strmnnrmn’s latest source code). If haven’t a clue and don’t know what this is - Daedalus is a promising N64 / Nintendo 64 emulator for the PSP. This release is now using the PSP’s Media Engine for enhanced audio processing and emulation speed increases. Daedalus R14 Beta also features new display icons.
Wally has noted that If a debug menu pops up while running a ROM image. Just press the PSP’s square button to close it.

I hope this has some decent speed improvements over R13. I wanna play Golden Eye with some nice FPS…Not laggy
One way to find out. Installing it now..
May 26th, 2008 at 8:28 pm
R13 was really slow with all games I tried, even at 333MHz. Even if the sound processing has moved to the second CPU it won’t go faster than R13 did without sound, which still was terribly slow.
I like this project and hope it will turn out well eventually, but for now it’s too slow.

Too bad, hopefully he can get it going a little quicker…The day I can play OoT on my psp is the day I disappear for a month lol
May 26th, 2008 at 8:33 pm
XpanD, Yes this works on 3.xx / PSP slim units.
May 26th, 2008 at 11:51 pm
I like the speed improvements without sound on Mario Kart 64, Super Mario 64, and Super Smash Bros.

got kart to work by replacing the eboot in the old r13 file, kart runs just as slow… whats updated? still get tons of debugging screens.
May 27th, 2008 at 4:38 pm
Yeah I havn’t gotten a single game to work. I can get past the error screens, and eventually to a black screen where i get nothing. I can go back to the menu fine, but nothing ever happens in the game.

Same thing here. No game works, they all end up with this message, and it always freezes, none of the options do anything.

May 27th, 2008 at 6:35 pm
Can anyone get conker’s bad fur day to work… want this game soooo badly on my psp
May 27th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
I’m having a bit of trouble too. I think Make sure you run the games zipped. Takes a while for them to load up if they load. There is a load of debug msg’s…(I wish there was a way to disable this)
So far I have played on R14:
War Gods
007 - The World is not enough
Also it sometimes jams my whole PSP up. It is a BETA remember
May 27th, 2008 at 11:58 pm
it sux for me
every game crash, got freeze and lots of errors and debug screens
i have slim 3.80M33-5
i prefer deadalus13 ^_^
May 28th, 2008 at 3:25 am
^^Linuxguy, nope, freezes.
I’ve gotten Bust A Move DX to get some title screens and a little action but also dies.
May 28th, 2008 at 1:31 pm
As i said make sure you run the n64 roms zipped. Seems to have a higher chance of working.
May 28th, 2008 at 6:56 pm
Just letting u know that everything works perfect if you download Daedalus R13 and just replace the EBOOT with the one you downloaded with Daedalus R14. Then just put the files on your psp and press square when a message like this appears:
assert failed: ecpustate.events{ 0 }.mcount == 0
Location: Source/Core/CPU.cpp(307)
Popping event with a bit of underflow
Press x to ignore once [] to ignore forever 0 to break
May 28th, 2008 at 6:57 pm
Oh nd you dont need your roms zipped, it dosent change a thing
May 28th, 2008 at 11:16 pm
Hopefully a faster version comes out soon. =]
May 29th, 2008 at 6:48 am
Well, I got Ocarina of Time to work…however it’s running like I’m watching Link ride Epona on Baywatch… Full moon, clop-clop….clop-clop….clop-clop…. yeah, I’ll wait for a faster one…
May 29th, 2008 at 1:51 pm
No its true you dont need the .z64 files zipped. But I’ve had more luck when there zipped
May 29th, 2008 at 11:52 pm
gonna try this one out…oh and by the way…
zelda OoT works verry well on r13
without sounds ..lol..
oh and majoras mask…well
its loads like a lil then it stops x.x
May 30th, 2008 at 12:53 am
It is easy to get rid of the icons that pop up. all you have to do is to press square when they pop up and keep pressing square until the game starts and you start playing then when you are there press the select button and and go to the debug display list and press x then your screen will go black for a second when you see the memory card icon stop blinking press select and the screen will go off. I worked for me try it
May 31st, 2008 at 1:50 am

3) Open Daedalus R14.

5) It will ask you if you wish to override the file, Click YES

For every single one of you that are bitching and moaning you can just shut the fuck up right now.
This dude is working his ass off to provide YOU with a free way to play N64 on your psp. And all I’m seeing is “tell me how to fix this!” and “This sucks boo-hoo”.
Quit bitching and program your own emulator if you think this a cake walk. Ton of ingrates in this world.
And to the creator, thanks a ton man. You’re doing us all a huge favor by making this program. Everyone who has even tried it (regardless of success) should be thankful.
October 17th, 2008 at 11:55 pm
yes i see.first of all i’d like to say I totally agree with the guy above me.second of all i’d like to ask how much a difference disabling the sound makes.and lastly…I can’t get paper mario to work, any suggestions?I haven’t tried Exodia1010’s suggestion yet,but if it works I’ll let u know.

November 12th, 2008 at 11:48 pm
On my PSP (FAT 4.01 M33-2), R13 runs faster still. Supposedly, there’s an even better Daedalus called Daedalus X64 coming out in the next day or two, and it was actually rendering all of the graphics in Ocarina of Time and not lagging quite as bad in the video that compared it to R13…can’t wait for this, lol…
November 18th, 2008 at 11:25 pm
hey liar stop taking previous daedalus and just giving it a new daedalus name. you freak.
November 22nd, 2008 at 4:52 am
it can not work in 4.01 m33…
December 24th, 2008 at 5:23 am
Ok, sorry I was gone for…
*Scrolls up to look at date when he posted*
Oh my…
*Does some math*
Umm… June… July… August…
Ok, sorry I was gone for a long time.
If anyone still has problems, doubt it since I know almost everyone either doesn’t care anymore or fixed it, just e-mail me at Googlepolls@yahoo.com , and as the subject type in “PSP Daed R14 Problems”, please include software version, PSP version (1000, 2000, or 3000), and what is the code that you are recieving when you are experiencing the problem.
Anyhow, thanks for those that gave me good comments…
Quote from ‘googla’ “Exodia1010 is brilliant it actually worked on my psp slim frmware 3.90 m33-3″
And to those that wanted to know more…
Quote from ‘bumbo’ “hello! i need help,i can run n64 games in my psp and a i have this software 4.01 m33 …
what should i do?
thank you !!!!!”
… I’m sorry I couldn’t help you before you gave up or just down right fixed it yourself.
To those that figured it out, congrats.
Once again, feel free to e-mail me any questions.
~Note! I have nothing to do with the person who made this, I am brain-dead *trails off into rambling… something about being stupid to anything that isn’t already made.*… So yeah! I have nothing to do with the program, I just figure out answers with “e-duct tape”(TM)!~
December 24th, 2008 at 5:36 am
Again, Daedalus x64 is now out and is far superior to the old daedalus. Check it out instead of wasting time with legacy software.
December 24th, 2008 at 6:32 am
I never ask for help..I figure things out… BUT after FIVE hours on line, I can not get ANY of the N64 emulators to work.
I have a fat running 4.01 M33-2
I have down loaded each version of these emulators, but always the same thing… they show up in the game area.. but when I click on it, it says “Game could not be started” (800 201 4C)
I have downloaded the 15 kernel, but no luck getting it to work, is that the key, or something else???? Is there a link to a step by step on this?
PLEEEEASEEEE… can someone help me out here!!!!?!?!?!
thanxs in advance
December 24th, 2008 at 7:12 pm
I know that the X64 is out but I stuck with R14, mainly because I felt it works a little better, and I am still offering help to those that ask it.
And lwprofile, I replied to your e-mail and sent a link that has MY N64 Emulator, R14, that I directly copied and pasted from my PSP to a folder on my computer so it should work 100%.
December 24th, 2008 at 9:12 pm
Thanxs
I downloaded it followed your instructions, but
I click on it and then click on start emulation it goes to a split blue and black screen that says the following:
**********************************************************************
Assert Failed: gCPUState.Events[ 0 ].mCount == 0
Location: Source/Core/CPU.opp(307)
Popping event with a bit of underflow
Press X to ignore once, [] to ignore forever, O to break
***********************************************************************
Initialising Graphics Plugin PSP
Count set - setting int
No matter what I press here it is just frozen up and I have to turn power off.
WTF? Im pulling my hair out… I want this to work SOOO bad, I dont care if its slow, or no sound! I just want N64 on my PSP!!!
please guys Im begging for some help….
December 24th, 2008 at 9:50 pm
Ok, just keep pressing “[]” which is square. Continue to pres this, and I mean like you just continuously press it, make the button fall off! and it should start to play.
If not, you know what to do
December 26th, 2008 at 10:22 am
Daedalus does not work for me, except when I tried out Exodia’s suggestion. However, all the roms are too laggy and stucky for a worthwhile gameplay - so I decided to remove Daedalus for now.
December 26th, 2008 at 8:21 pm
Yep..thanxs “Exodia1010″ … square button was the key
and yes “FrankZ0509″ … Roms are extremely slow
but hey..its all a work in progress.. give these guys time & i bet they will get it all working better…
Just want to say THANKS TO THE DESIGNERS AND EVERYONE WHO WORKED ON THESE EMULATORS!!!! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK..WE ALL APPRECIATE IT!!!!
January 1st, 2009 at 10:46 am
When u’re doin that stuff make sure the rom u’re gettin works on ur computer first of all, some of those roms don’t always work anyways so ur chances are reduced if there’s a slight problem with it. If your problems continue then try every single solution posted out there. AS for the 3.90 m 33-3 it works if u follow exodia’s simple instructions. For the rest play with the plugins or press square like they said earlier if none work, wait for the hardworking programmer to get completely done with this stuff. U should be thankful u get to play the sample if u wanna put it this way. Be patient
thank you
