Custom Firmware Enabler v2.1 - Added POPS support!

Custom Firmware Enabler v2.10 has been released, Xenogears and Becus25 have released an update to their Custom Firmware loader, version 2.1 now supports POPS (PSX Emulator). When used in conjunction with ChickHEN R2, 5.03 firmware TA-88v3 users can M33 load custom firmware without flashing.

How to enable POPS, First download Firmware 5.00. Start PSARDumper and decrypt the 5.00 Eboot. Now Copy the “pops.prx” and “popsman.prx” from the F0 directory to your memory stick under PSP/GAME/CFWEnabler/Pops. And then “Enable Pops Support” from CFWEnabler

Oh and the PSP-3000 is NOT supported, yet…..

Fixed a bug in the installation of the Pops (The PRX MD5 is different on each console, so the test worked, but then not)

Fixed a bug not detect either a previous installation (caused that could not be installed above the new version)

System pops native activation.

Verification MD5 of files that are installed in flash, if you have not installed either, re-install.

Safety flasheos unnecessary.

Protection from ChickHen load the Custom Firmware.
(It is necessary that this ChickHen in a folder called “ChickHEN inside Photo or Pictures.)

Changed version of the system (now shows 5.03 M33)

Tips:

When selecting the “Option O button: flash M33 custom firmware files into the flash” It doesn’t overwrite any files when flashing, but if your PSP was to lose power when writing to the NAND flash it could equal a brick. So make sure you do this with the PSP powered via the power adaptor and a full battery charge just in case!

POPs support: “The PRX MD5 is different on each console” so that means you have to make your own “pops.prx” and “popsman.prx” using one some else made won’t work it seems. Its unique for each PSP….

ok say we just want to use iso’s i dont need to do all the:

and just run Custom Firmware Enabler right(after hen has been loaded)? also whats the procedure ? (sorry noob) flash 1st then run right? ive confirmed v88 on the slim i ran the checker so no bricking,

Ok. After some research and stuff, found a popsloader and the files needed for older versions. I can now see in the plugins menu the popsloader, and it is on. When I start a game, it does not give me a list, and the game still gives an error.

i can load it , i see like the sony logo , then black screen. any idea?

like i get the screen where it says that the psx game is modify for psp blah blah and it become black and i have to restart the psp. anyidea? i run chiken then cfw210 then the encryption of 5.00 , then try to load, i have changed the name of 410 version of popsman and pops to popsman and pops and in setting it says pops is patched. And i load the game and it aint working, tryed shypon and ufc and they both do same thing. Help plzz

If this was the case, it would show as a corrupt file and not even load. The games I try are already in EBOOT form and in the correct location. Still getting a “Game could not be started” (80000004) error.

ya thats what i thought. i convert to eboot tried with my custom icons and such and even with no custom settings same issue. so daedulus now that you can see the plugin and it says enabled when you go to boot the game do you hold R to chose version pops? cause from what I understand different games are compatible with different versions. Heres a compat list

Daedulus now that you can see the plugin and it shows enabled. if you boot the game and hold R what happens?

zorbho? what system are you using? im on a 2000 formerly unhackable. cfwe 2.1, hen r2, games are put in psp/game in the folder created using psx2psp via usb. zorbho can you see the actual plugin in custom firmware loader 2.1? when i used poploader to install it and tried it caused the system to crash with no poploader seplugin folder installed i can see the plugins but seeing as there is none i can’t load the psx eboots. Im beginning to think walsh219 might be right in that there is a bug.

ok here is my problem, i enabeled pop with the pop of someone else its prolly why its not working causde i have to use the one its give me in f0 but i already patched cfw, i formaated my ms , and redid everything and first time i load cfw it says patched even if i did not, i want to patch it with the pop from f0, not the one i got from the pop installer. How to “unpatch my cfw” and how the hell imy configs stay saved when its in the flash and i rebooted psp, formatted ms… , thx guys

you need to first run the t PSARDumper with the Firmware 5.00 that you can download at top of this page, to do so , put the firmware in your root, and the dumper in the psp/game folder, execute the dumper, it will creat a f0 folder on your memory stick , take the pops and popsman and put them into the pops folder into cfw enabeler 2.10 , then run cfw enabeler, and enable it, and if you are lucky it will work , it did not for me since i took the pops and popsman from an other person insteed of the f0 folder, and now im stuck with cfw 2.10 saying my pops are installed even if i format, reset , anything, if anyone want to help me , try to make your cfw 2,10 saying not installed after you erease it, where does cfw 2.10 save his config memory , its like impossible i formatted and removed battery and all, i dont understand, thx.

oh man, I did that too with my TA-088v3.. Isos work but I’m stuck with a bad pops flash… I’m sure it can be overwriten but the fn** program won’t let you reinstall it or let you press anything… I hope they have a fix for people that screwed their pops install.

I think the setting is save on the psp system thats why its still installed and remain on the system even if y0u reformat the mem0ry stick..

uhhmmm… here’s my setup… im using Chickhen R2 and the CFW loader v.2.10, so right now my firmware is 5.03 m33 how can I download a cfw 5.00 and make PSARDumper work?

I have a red Gow 2001 psp ta-088 v1&2 mobo which is capable of using DA’s m33 but I use HEN b/c I like it and I have the same probs with the CFW 2.10 not loading my PSX games it’ll start then boot me out with an differnt error code for each game, I first load chickhen r2, cfw 1.0 then, cfw 2.10 installed the pops patch and psx games don’t work only isos do, lol same with my blue 2001 ta-088v3…

PspGamer you mentioned you get a different code every time? are your psx games in pbp format? I know myself and DaedulusBear have been consistently getting 80000004 error when we try to boot up various psx games. Unlike zorbho I made my own prx though so that isn’t my issue.

my psx games are all eboot.pbp files in their own folders in the PSP/GAME folder…. the following psx games i have Duke 3d total meltdown, Mortal kombat II both had the error game could not be started (80000004) and the games Castlevania Symphony, Dragon Warrior VII had the codes (DADADADA)

I did it exactly the right way and my psx games still don’t work with ta-088v3 (resident evil and tobal 2, both confirmed with my regular ta-088.
To reflash the pops, first enable the custom firmware.

Then once in the xmb of the custom firmware, press select to bring up the vsh menu and change usb device to flash 0.

Connect psp to pc via usb and you should see the flash folders. Go into the kd folder and look for pops.prx, popsmain.prx, and pops_installed files.

*important: delete these and ONLY these three files as any other deletions can cause system damage!

Disconnect from your pc and hard reset the psp. Once you go through the chickhen process and get back to the custom firmware enabler, it should give you the option to reflash your psp.

Hopefully someone is able to get it working because it’s annoying to be so close to ta-088v3 perfection.

No problem, anything to help this bug get fixed. BTW don’t forget to set the usb device back to memory stick after you get back into the custom firmware.

Interestingly enough. when i usb into my system after changing to flash 0 i can see a few folders dic, font, vsh but no KD. I tried looking through the different flash places i think 0-4 and none of them have the KD folder. Weird so basically I have no way of doing a true re-install as it will always have my original flash in memory somewhere I can’t access it apparently. now since Im not seeing that kd folder in flash 0 even though cfwe shows running and pops patched if it either was a bad flash or didn’t actually flash it in the first place. its gotta be a bug. I followed the directions to a T.

cannot find the kd under flash0 to unflash my cfw 2.10 , i verufy flash 1-2-3 too and there is no kd, but the information is prolly under the flash0, i have a dic folder a font and a vsh folder, but no pops unther them. Any idea ?

What happen on my psp, it cant play iso/cso it always sh0ws the psp logo and give the message the game could n0t be started.. It started when i use cfwe2.10 and enabled the p0ps supp0rt.. What c0uld be the problem on this? I also change the umd/iso m0de into m33 driver but n0things happen.. Can i still use the old versi0n of cfwe on my psp? Need help here.. Tnx..

this is what I did my PSP is PSP2006

How would I run CFW enabler 2.10 if I delete CFWE 1.0?
I Have a Psp 2000 but after loading chickHEN r2 then straight to CFWE 2.10 it says you don’t have a psp 2000 but when using 1.0 to load 2.10 once inside the program Psp Version: 2000…… you should make a video tutorial because I have yet to see anyone got the pops working..

i deleted mine because the first time I used CFWE v2.01 and still CFWE v1 is in my PSP it shutsdown… but after deleting CFWE v1 and installing only CFWE v2.01 it went through.

chickHEN loads almost every time… but how do you play iso/cso games. I created a folder named ISO in the root of the memory stick but still no luck. IS there anything like u need to change umd driver to m33 or something else……but unfortunately theres no VSH menu

hey zorbho, for the clean flash tutorial, you have to make sure that your computer folder options are set to “show hidden files and folders”, the kd won’t show that file without it.

change the usb device in ur psp vsh menu from memory stick to umd disc. then u can drag and drop the iso from the disc to ur desktop.

Nivera, what version psp do you have? the people i spoke with yesterday did exactly what you did and it didn’t work. its not that complicated so i doubt it was done incorrectly. the directions are quite straight forward.

so anyone has more idea about clearing the flash for thoses stupid that used a pops and popsman downloaded insteed of the one created by PSARDumper , i need a genius that know exactly where it been saved so when i load cfw 2.10 it would act like its the first time and not saying that its already patched. Formatted the ms , went to flash0 with usb and cant see kd folder , so it mean it is stuck in an other file somewhere prolly still in flash0 but which one it is and how do i reset it ! , thx for the help!

why not try this:

make a back up of your important files, then reformat your mem stick.

have you tried using a different MS? just to be sure it’s installed in your MS and not in your PSP? because if its only you MS that can be fix i think! but if its installed in your PSP… mennnn that’s gonna be hard…

It’s in the flash on the actual PSP. Using a different stick wont matter.

because I have a ta88v2 and I downgraded fw to 3.71 then back to ofw 5.03 ran chickhen r2 then cfw enabler 1.0 then cfwloader 2.10 and Pops Patch says Uninstalled, So I know the 2.10 program flashes the files to the current firmware on the psp.. but youre kinda stuck with the pops files in the fw (ta088v3 mobo) until they can be overwriten or reinstall the whole firmware I have not seen any proof on the internet that anyone has got 2.10 to run pops… the program is so buggy it should have never been released.. 1.0 is fine for ISO’s wait till there is a fix or proof pops can work with v3 psps

hey zorbo, i had to go back and change folder options to show protected windows files for the KD folder to appear, just having show hidden files wasn’t enough. Im running the dreaded vista lol xp probably show hidden files is enough. im going to go ahead and clear my kd of those 3 files and reflash. hopefully it WAS just a bad flash and not a BUG.

alright after going into my kd folder under flash0 option and deleting the 3 pops files i did a hard restart reloaded chickHEN r2, ran psar dumper again, got the 2 pops files and copied them into cfwe 2.1, loaded cfwe 2.1 repatched for pops, enabled cfwe 2.1, put my eboot for xenogears in and crossed my fingers, hey what do you know i got the playstation logo= progress!!!, then the light flickers like its gonna load and it sits on a black screen no more action, so i hit the home button and at least now instead of getting the 80000004 i get the menu for pops, so im thinking it might be a bad eboot , going to try another one. from what I can tell though it looks like my original pops flash was bad.

Ya apparently it was a combination of a bad flash and my xenogears eboot doesn’t work for some reason. but my chrono trigger eboot just loaded. finally lol after 2 days i can play psx games using 2.1.
