Custom Firmware Enabler 3.01 Released - Supports Firmware 3.01

Continuing with their tweaks and improvements Xenogears and Becus25 have released Custom Firmware Enabler 3.01 for ChickHEN R2. While the release of Custom Firmware 5.03 GEN-A has slightly overshadowed Custom Firmware Enabler, its important not to over look Xenogears and Becus25 efforts as they have now added PSP-3000 support too Taking it too PSPGEN with their own kind of Custom Firmware magic on the PSP-3000.

How to enable POPS in Custom Firmware Enabler 3.01, First download Firmware 5.00. Start PSARDumper and decrypt the 5.00 Eboot. Now Copy the “pops.prx” and “popsman.prx” from the F0 directory to your memory stick under PSP/GAME/CFWEnabler/Pops. And then “Enable Pops Support” from Custom Firmware Enabler 3.01.

I read at the PSPGEN website that xeno and becus actually “stole” (as stated in their website) modules from GEN-A. I put ISO folder in my memory card and put iso games.,
but when i try to run the iso games it say “the game could no be started (80020321)

You were suppose to select uninstall first, if you did’t, try again. When you see the option to uninstall, do that, then flah CFWE

This exists to provide an alternative to GEN-A. People who failed to do GEN-A can try this. Seems like lots of them have no luck with GEN-A though. Like me.

It’s not permenantly install, but if you shut off your psp, all you have to do is, run chickhenR2 again, enter the CFWE Eboot/Program and just hit Start, and the CFWE will reload without having to re-flash the files. Recommendation is to leave your psp on standby by quickly swtching up and letting go. And CFWE will stay On.

If I were you i would not mess with replacing files on F0 of 3001. If by any chance your psp shuts off before it overites the files, you will have a brick. I mean, correct me if I’m wrong.

HELP! I flashed the pops and everything on my PSP 3000 and I can play some ps1 games but I cant play Chrono Cross!!! It loads but stops at a black screen! any help would be greatly appreciated.

ur right, but im aware of what im doing, i just need to know what prx’s are there so i could remove the 1 thats causing a overwrite conflict. Its the GEN-a messing with my 3000.

Why don’t you try re-installing Gen-A, then try to install CFWE, because when you press X to install CFWE you’ll get an option to uninstall Gen-A. When you see the Uninstall option just go ahead, this might take off all the Gen-A files.

The files are on top of the page with instructions. Make sure that you learn how to run ChickHenR2 as you will need that first to run CFWEnabler. Youtube is your friend!

tried that, first when i try installing GEN-a after it flashs it files it tries to reboot but ends up shutting down. so i tried again….same shit! I tried CFE but it stops at: vshctrl.prx.. it tells me it couldnt be installed then it tries again 4-5 times then tells me it could not flash the files then quits CFE. thats why i want to know what prx’s are installed with GEN-a so i can find and eliminate my problem prx. im open to ideas, i dont really want to erase anything off F0.

Ok, did you try another memory card. I say this because onetime I could not install CFW because the MS stick was somewhat bad. Also, you could instead compare files in your system with a F0 dump.
If you have CFW on a different psp Decrypt Eboot 5.00 with psrdump and compare your files with the dump. I could dump it if you need it.

Install CFWE 1.0 and flash it, it will overwrite the damage done by GEN-A.
After that, try CFWE 3.01 again. They should work no problem now.

I think i have the worst of both world. I tried Gen-A and it does not work for me, so i try this. But problem is, I have flashed gen-a files. It just does not reboot like it says, it just shuts down. So I have flashed gen-a files but is not successful into getting the firmware to be gen-a, hence no uninstall option.
When i tried flashing this CFWE it gave me errors (something like vshctrl error) three times before it says CFW cannot be flashed, and returned back to start up screen. Is that because i flashed Gen-A files previously? If so, how can i remove it safely so this CFWE can flash properly? Anybody has a solution?

Initially, you were suppose to uninstall Gen-A. Is that what you miss doing before trying to install CFWE

No, i didn’t get to install GEN-A successfully in the first place. So there is no option to uninstall. BUT i flashed GEN-A files in already when it asked me to do so. It just does not reboot when i press circle. So having no luck with gen-a, i turn to this.
But this gives me vshctrl error when i flashed the CFW. I reckon is because i still have a gen-a files somewhere inside my psp (although i deleted all already). I have no idea why no one has this problem (coz i read everythin in the comments). Tough luck..

why dont you just turn of your psp completely and then do everything properly this time like run chickhen r2 then run cfwe instead of gen-a. because turning off the psp will revert it back to ofw

Oh, and i own a psp 2000. I thought gen-A would work until vocalists told me that it does not for psp 2000, so i am trying this. I dont know what motherboard i have, but most probably 88v3 (seeing that its new psp slim which were unhackable). I can’t get GEN-A to work, and GEN-A remnants are messing up with this CFW. Argh…

You could find out what motherbourd you have by running pspident threw ChickR2 and then look at a chart on this site that lets you know what you could and can’t do to your psp. Who knows maybe you have a pandora hackable slim, maybe not. But you might still be able to install Regular CFW m33 with the non pandora CFW Installer. Just find out what mobo you have. It might save you a lot of trouble.

I wouldn’t say this is safe. Try decrypting the Eboot of the firmware you currently have by downloading it and using psrdumper. When you get the F0 folder compare your device F0 files with thoes of the dump. That is if you know a way into your device F0. Maybe. The files that are conflicting will be apparent and safe to delete. Again, I can’t say this is safe.

How to Install,

Pre installation: Make sure you have a PSP-3000 or PSP-2000 with Firmware 5.03 – You need this for ChickHEN R2 to work.

1.Download ChickHEN R2 by Davee & Team Typhoon
2.Download 5.03 GEN-A Custom Firmware.
3.Install ChickHEN and run/load ChickHEN R2
4.Follow these steps below

I have read that, and it tricked me into thinking it will also work in 2000.

It DOES NOT work with 2000, and it will cause a ‘semi brick’ for 2000.
But not all hope is lost, because skrape said it can be fixed with CFWE 1.0
I tried and it really did worked.
Imma try this again now since 1.0 has fixed my f0 folder for me…

For people who does not know how to flash pops module, i quote PSPGAMER in his post on CFWE 2.50:
PSPGAMER says:
“This is my tutorial for Pops..
there is no readme for CFWEnabler so here’s some help..

If you are getting Error codes (80000004) for loading pops you need to install it over

First load: chickhen r2, then any of the cfw enablers, hit select and
change Usb device from memstick to flash 0. Go into the kd folder ( you
need to have windows vista show hidden operating system files) delete 3
files pops.prx, popsman.prx, pops_installed.
“you do not have to delete popcorn.prx”
Exit usb connection change Usb device back to memory stick from flash 0
hold powerswitch up and do hard reboot or goto vsh menu and shutdown device..

1. load chickhen r2
2. load cfwe 1.0 (install into flash)
3. load cfwe 2.10 (install flash over 1.0)

load PSARdumper after loading cfwe 2.10 not b4

4. download PSARdumper put in PSP/GAME folder
5. download 5.00 sony firmware ( put the EBOOT.pbp in the root of your memstick)
This has to be done on your psp that you want pops to work on.
Here is the most Important part to get pops working “When in PSARdumper press X not circle”

6. Copy pops.prx popsman.prx into CFWEnabler/Pops folder
7. load cfwe 2.10 ( now install pops.. if it says overwrite the files push yes for everything)
8. load a PSX game. presto!

you can overwrite the cfwe 2.10 with the new cfwe 2.50.. install again
and flash pops once again.. everything will work if you have done it
correct in 2.10
Psx games must be .pbp format and put in the PSP/GAME folder

I would think so, seeing that what it’s doing is merely flashing pops module. If CFWE 3.01 can be successfully loaded to ur psp 3k, then i assume its safe to do this, it’s a separate flashing with the custom firmware (means you have to flash CFW first then flash pops module). But again, no guarantee. We are not dark alex who knows the inner-built of the psp =P

Oh and one more thing would be, dont try to use CFWE that does not support ur psp 3k. Jump straight to CFWE 3.01 and try to flash pops. Best of luck.

‘Guys, just to share a bit of a problem i had back then.
I own a psp 2000 ta88v3. I tried installing this ( I read all the readme and posts and YES i load chickHEN r2 before flashing GEN-A) it does not work ( it shuts down instead of reboot when i press circle) and when i start it up again i am back to OFW.
Apparently, psp 2k users shouldn’t try this first, here is for further information:

I repeat. psp 2k user SHOULDN’T try to load GEN-A.
After i have no luck with GEN-A, i turn to CFWE 3.01. Everybody run it successfully but i dont. It says error writing vshctrl.
Apparently, GEN-A flashed files to my f0, and it causes CFWE to not be able to run its own CFW. (This is my intelligent guess, i am not sure what causes this).
And hence, ’semi-bricked’ psp 2000 ta88v3. I can’t run GEN-A nor CFWE 3.01
But IT CAN BE FIXED
1. Delete all your gen-a files, all your CFWE 3.01.
2. After you have done so, install CFWE 1.0 and flash the CFW. It will overwrite the damage done by GEN-A.
3. After CFWE 1.0 is loaded successfully, you can go back to USB mode and delete CFWE 1.0 and replace it with CFWE 3.01. (Don’t overwrite because there will be remnants, delete CFWE 1.0 and replace with brand new CFWE 3.01).
And try flash the CFWE 3.01 again. Now it won’t give error anymore.
I write this so nobody else will encounter the same problem. Pardon me for my grammar. And for psp 2k user, use CFWE instead of GEN-A because it gave me 1 night worth of headache.

What i know is create an ISO folder at the root of ur memory stick and put the ISO there.
After that, switch on ur psp and hit select button and select M33 driver.
If you have done all that, I don’t know what u have done wrong.
Check your system information, if it’s 5.00 M33 then you are in custom firmware.

i got a PSP-2000 TA088v3 and try to install gen-a full for PSP-2000 TA088v3 but it crashed and back to OFW 5.03. Again, I reload chickHen R2, then 2nd step is to run cfw enabler 3.01 then it will show that it says…INSTALLATION: “Other Version” and CFW: unloaded.. regarding this is that all you have to do.. go on the the right side screen, locate and use- “UNINSTALL” then it will unload or erase all files made by gen -a or all files remains done by any previous or current version of cfw enabler without using cfwenabler 1.0 just to fix. then restart ur psp (turn if off and on it again) then run cfw enabler 3.01 then Flash and Start will apear and ready to use without any problem at all. Hope this idea will help.

Nop, if shutdown need to run everything again…the only thing is that you dont have to re-flash, when in CFWE program, just click start…

I’ve PSP 3004 firmwire version 4.21. I read in one of the tutorial that if 8D is written on Box it can’t be hacked. Can i use this technique on my PSP is that safe ?? and can be hacked easily with it ??
