CFWEnabler 3.30 menu screen.
This is a quick tutorial / guide to running Custom Firmware Enabler 3.30+ on your PSP-3000. We have two choices for CFW on our PSP-2000 TA-088v3+ models and PSP-3000’s. Either 5.03 GEN-A or this custom firmware. We’re now swaying towards Xenogears and becus25’s CFWEnabler as the updates are rolling out quicker, it has less bugs and a pretty menu system for enabling the various options.
- You need official Firmware 5.03 installed to begin (ChickHEN needs this fw version)
- Install ChickHEN R2 and get that running, use our tutorial and guide located here: Guide to running ChickHEN R2 on your PSP-3000 / PSP-2000 TA88v3+
- Now download Custom Firmware Enabler 3.30 and install this to your PSP Memory card. put the file CWEnabler folder in PSP/GAME
- With ChickHEN R2 loaded in your PSP XMB go to GAME, Memory Stick and then load CFWEnabler
- You’ll boot up into a CFWEnabler screen, Select install and your PSP will reboot.
- After which your PSP will reboot into 5.00 M33-6 CFW! Easy as pie!!
In order to enter the setting and configuration menu (Recovery menu) Simply run CFWEnabler from your XMB again and this time hold the R shoulder button. You’ll boot up into the menu screen (top)
Here you have the following pretty menu’s:

Custom Firmware Enabler: Your main Config menu

Custom Firmware Enabler: Plug-ins

Custom Firmware Enabler: CPU settings

Custom Firmware Enabler: Registry Hacks

MAC address spoof turned on. XMB effect only
The above screen demonstrates the MAC adress Spoof, so its not visible in the XMB. Good for screenshots like this. We haven’t gone into the Pops flashing as CFWEnabler 3.2+ supports native PSX/PS1 emulation and its pretty good.

Off thread Question here…. how can i make a “cso” game so that i will not carry anymore my umds with me?
June 14, 2009 at 9:19 pm
You need UMD dumper.
June 14, 2009 at 9:27 pm
got any instructions thier Joedakeys? and is it compatible with Hen R2?
June 15, 2009 at 2:05 am
!!!!!!!!!Note!!!!!!!!! before getting mad at me on this not working, u have to have the above program installed, just follow their instructions, pretty self explanotary…
just go into the vhs menu (select from the home screen). then switch usb mode to umd (do not mess wit the flash). plugin your psp to your comp and go to usb mode. The screen that pops up on ur comp and should have a single iso file on it (The UMD). copy that to your comp. keep the iso intact do not extract it by winrar. google iso to cso program and dowload it (this step is only if you find the iso file to big, converting shrunk mine by 50 %), run the iso through the program (cant help u here just go along wit it). Now go to your psp and change the usb mode back to memory stick. connect to your comp and make a file in the root of it called “ISO”. Inside that make another folder called “VIDEO” (do not include quotes in either). Copy you .cso or .iso file to ISO if its a game, and to VIDEO if its a video. Now it should show up in your games when you have custom firmware enabled. (Note: doesnt show up in Official firmware version). And its not compatible with chickHen R2 (you have to use chichen to activate the above program, then it will work.) So one more thing before playing: go back to the vhs menu and change the umd driver or mode (forget) to m33. now just start the game and enjoy!
Hope this helps…

This is good, and great instructions…also, just discover today that you could do this while on CFWE 3.30.
June 15, 2009 at 3:35 am
There is a great tutorial section in the forums. Look there it’s much much easier than using usb dumper. (assuming you have vsh menu).
June 15, 2009 at 5:44 am
Follow Tom’s instuctions below, with the exception of my reply to him, and you’ll be good.
Then find the converter. Type iso to cso once you have your iso, or leave it as iso, it will also run.
June 15, 2009 at 1:01 pm
its actually above
June 14, 2009 at 9:16 pm
Prette clear and simple…
If you want to install any other pops versions (for any reason you have) just do the steps explained in the older CFWE versions. The native support works pretty well though.

Can run CFW enabler 3.30 on my PSP 3000 after I flashed with 5.03 GEN-A. I am running on 5.03 GEN-A right now? If I got back to just HEN R2 and I run CFW enabler, would it screw up since I have flahsed with GEN-A already? What is better about CFW enabler when compared to 5.03 GEN-A? Sorry, I am new to all these… but sure happy I did not upgrade my PSP 3000 to 5.5!
June 15, 2009 at 2:00 am
When prompted to eather flash or uninstall. uninstall, man. You do not want to contaminate you files and semi brick your psp. Worse yet, entirely brick it. People need to remember, bricking old mobos is kindda ok, I did for fun. But for these new mobos there is no superficial way to recover them. So your best bet is not to risk it. Do it the right way.
So go ahead and install it after you uninstall Gen-A with the CFWE 3.30. Do not install on top of Gen-A.

thanks for the tutorial ill use it later

do i need to decrypt 5.03 if im using the popsloader plugin?
June 15, 2009 at 1:54 am
It is a good idea to do the ones from 5.00 by dumping its F0 with psrdunp. The 5.03 dump is just a fix for when people mess thing up with the prx. Dump 5.00 and then put the pops.prx & popman.prx in the pops folder located in the CFWE folder. after that, if you want an entire compatibility. install popsloader. The link is in Keflers guide at the Forum/user Help/Find kefler. This is good because some psx games may have certaing fetures that may require to be run with a specific prx. this program allows you to pick the compatible firmware prx. Once you pic a firmware it remains configured. Now, so that you know wich game is compatible with what prx. type “psx compatibility list” at google and pick the most infomative list.

What is the option XMB USB device?
June 15, 2009 at 6:27 am
That’s to mount your devices@ usb mode . If you put to menstick that is what you will see @My computer. To UMD disk, that’s what you will see@my computer (can copy umd iso thisway to your desk top). But for F0,F1,F2,F3 That’s what you will see but don’t touch.
June 15, 2009 at 1:45 am
@JSTHIR2ASK, Still trying diferent Dumpers to see if any work. but If you have an old psp with CFW, dump and play with 3k.
June 15, 2009 at 2:07 am
just use the built in usb mode option, set that to umd. follow the instructions that i gave him above and u should not have any problem.
June 15, 2009 at 2:42 am

June 15, 2009 at 3:14 am
Thanks alot tom. I did that but I did it with CFW on my 1000. For some reason UMD dumps dont want to work from the UMDDunper program even on my old psp, and that same program use to work. But I like that trick.
June 15, 2009 at 2:44 am
When running CFWE, press the one and only Uninstall option. But first shut off you device entirly. Run chickhenR2 only, then run CFWE.
June 15, 2009 at 4:50 am
thank you.
June 15, 2009 at 12:59 pm
ty and np. i suspected that was the case but i didnt want to risk bricking my psp.
June 15, 2009 at 3:26 am
@Tom, your UMD instructions worked, and better yet they work with CFWE…Thank man!
June 15, 2009 at 3:53 am
Smells like KFC in here with all this talk of ChickHEN … LOL!! If you are using a psp 2000 with motherboard TA88v3 then I would recommend CFW Enabler because it seems to work best for 2000 users. 5.03 GEN-A works best for psp 3000 users. Probably was designed mainly for that model.
June 15, 2009 at 5:18 am
Haha KFc, that was funny

June 15, 2009 at 7:15 am

Noob Question Here: Does this CFWE stick on the psp firmware??? What I mean is does it stay on my PSP even i turn it off? the reason why Im askin this is because I already Installed it on my psp and decided to format my MS and start from fresh installing when i notice that on the part that I should intall CFWE, the window that should display the “FLASH and INSTALL” part is missing and just continue to enable it… Help here….. pls.
June 15, 2009 at 10:34 am
Just select START.. It’s already installed in your flash..
June 15, 2009 at 10:41 am
So is it normal even I format my Memory stick? i wont able to see that screen again?
June 15, 2009 at 11:00 am
ahh i m still having trouble wit pops what works eboot or other?
June 15, 2009 at 9:00 pm
Eboot is actually your psx game converted to the file that PSP is able to load. PRX files to those games is the drivers to thoes games, without the right ones certain game eboots wont play. Rip your ps1 games to iso and convert to eboot. There are tutorial and software download in this site to do that. Then get the popsloader pack in Kefler’s tutorial also on theis site @forum/user help/Kefler’s Guide.

In this case Utube is your friend.
June 16, 2009 at 2:02 am
Soo, after running CFWE, if I want to switch memory sticks (to use other homebrew/whatever), does the ‘new’ memory stick need to have CFWE on it? Or can one Not switch memory sticks on the fly?

June 16, 2009 at 6:16 pm
Whats the difference between CFWE3.30 and GEN-A ????????? ANYONE????
June 16, 2009 at 8:44 pm
I think the main difference is that you can edit the Version.txt file in order to play games that require 5.51 to play. I have not encountered that problem so I have not switched from Gen-A to CFW 3.30. I have it as a backup in case the time comes. Apart from the fact that I don’t want to shut down my PSP after everything is working great with GEN-A since the last time that happened it took me about an hour to run ChickHen R2… hehehe
June 16, 2009 at 11:15 pm
Thank you to all that developed this excellent CFE
June 17, 2009 at 2:47 am
So the CFWE 3.30 only stays on your psp 3000 if u keep it on sleep mode but other than that it will disappear and you will have to start the process all over again. With GEN it stays on, but GEN does have a few problems with it concerning psone games and a few iso/cso games and on another note not all plugins/prx’s work with GEN so idon’t really know which one to go with, Should i go with CFWE becuase it doesn’t seem to have any problems but it can only go to sleep mode to keep it, or with GEN that stays on but, has quite a few problems to it?
June 17, 2009 at 4:58 am
lol CFE is much better why are people so lazy when it comes to turning there psp off
June 17, 2009 at 7:55 am
Wrong Aaron, if you turn off the PSP 3000 with GEN-A you have to run ChickHen again and then GEN-A… Same as CFW 3.30
June 17, 2009 at 6:44 am
please please help my psp’s firmware 5.51 how i can turn it 5.03 HELPPPPPPP
