While everyone is waiting for Custom Firmware 5.50 GEN-D to release in *hopefully* 1 hour, PSPGen have posted a new video showing us a new feature they have added to 5.50 GEN-D. 480x272 res AVC video support. Yoshihiro demonstrates this in the above video. However this new video support comes at a cost. Since its a last minute correction to the new 5.50 GEN-D firmware. It might not be released today, since it would require further testing.
While AVC support is great, DivX or Xvid support would really make my day.

You have a point, but what will hackers hack if theres no thing to hack. XD 1point for the hackers, 1point for the original programmers.

This wasn’t already supported? AVC movies play fine at 480×208 (theater aspect ratio). Hard to believe 480×272 wouldn’t work….?
October 21, 2009 at 12:31 pm
Apparently not. To be honest I don’t use the AVC codec.. MP4 H.264 all the way!

Honestly. I’ve just played 480×272 AVC video on my PSP Slim running 6.10 OFW. This is ridiculous!
The PSP has had 480×272 available for EVER! I’ve been encoding videos on my PSP that my friend can play on his (5.00 OFW, PSP 3000)
And seriously, I’ve now upgraded to 5.50 gen b and I HAD NO TROUBLE playing 480×272 AVC video. Then, I upgraded (what a word to use) to OFW 6.10 to test it and it still worked.
What’s the big deal? I’ve been making 480×272 AVC video for my PSP (3.71-M33 to 5.00-M33) for a long time without any trouble.
Video conversion is my specialty. Honestly, I should know. They are just buying time for their release.

Just wanna ask, whats the difference between AVC and MP4 conversions? Im tried them both but i dont find any difference so im wondering whats their difference. Thanks.

Whatever the case may be, these guys are working hard to provide services for free to benefit those like me who don’t like the use of official FW’s. The CFW scene is awesome. Keep up the good work.
Cheers

I convert avc video @ 640×480 on my PSP, Sometimes i have 720×480 (leaves black borders at both sides in full screen mode) 480×272 i hardly use now, since 640×480 support. Does anyone get “ghost effect” when a video picture is moving fast? I dont see it anymore since 5.00 ofw long time ago.
October 21, 2009 at 3:50 pm
My thoughts exactly. I’ve been using 480×272, 640×480 and 720×480 since 4.00 OFW or M33 (Doesn’t matter, because I tested them both and they both have it).
I usually use 480×272, because it’s faster than encoding to 640×480 or 720×480 Plus, it’s the screen size of the PSP, so no loss in quality unless you’re planning to display it on a TV.
This is ridiculous. Didn’t team Gen get the memo? PSP 1-3000 have had 480×272 AVC support since OFW 4.00.
The question is: what do they think is so special about their modification?

hope it releases today

I don’t mind waiting. Better to have them work all the bugs out thoroughly than having another GEN-C on our hands. Keep on the good work Yoshiro, MaGiXieN and others on the GEN team.

October 21, 2009 at 1:49 pm
??? um.. this suppose to be a new feature of sort??
the video/resolution format that is not supported on the psp is MPEG-4 480×272 not AVC 480×272… since i had no problem playing AVC 480×272 movie files on the psp before.. whenever it’s OFW or CFW..
October 21, 2009 at 3:51 pm
My qualms with this development exactly!
October 21, 2009 at 6:06 pm

MS speed up would be really good as well
Grand theft auto Libert city PSP is slow on Gen-D
switched back to 5.00 M33-6 (which seems most stable)
make a MS speed for Gen-D and it would be flawless
