and Yoshihiro have released an apology and explanation for which was basically a bug ridden and very problematic release. I even saw some users referring to it as 5.50 GEN-Crap – With is pretty harsh.

Anyway GENyUS and Yoshihiro are now working to quickly release Custom Firmware 5.50 GEN-D to fix all the issues that were present. Were not likely to see a release till its well and truly tried and tested. A bug free release. We’ll keep you updated.

PSPGen’s apology and explanation for Custom Firmware 5.50 GEN-C’s issues: (Translated from French)

First we present our apologies for this release that posed more problems than we expected. To be very frank, in our tests made in the same manner as other times, we had satisfactory results, but several factors intervened between the announcement of the online one. We will try to explain the why of how this release cursed.

Firstly, the original version that was being posted was well prepared for this announcement and we had given 24 hours of additional testing to verify that everything worked well. This first release does not launch the protected games but all games 5.55 +. In the process, Yoshihiro out how to counter the protections we have decided to announce and release in the edit function. So this is where we fished for if everything worked in our tests, it is found that certain protections of our CFW have come to panic under certain conditions and also depending on the model of PSP. Moreover, to avoid (too much) delay the release, we dropped the baby without giving her a test period of time. Accept our apologies for this.

In our defense, there are several types of errors, some of which we are not attributable to:

* You have a black screen by launching the updater
You are in Custom Firmware 5.50GEN-B and not in B2. It was enough to qse B2 therefore to resolve the concern.
* You have a semi brick ( “I have the clock …”)
You had left a personalized theme and therefore it was enough to format the flash1 via Recovery menu. Do not have a personal theme during a flash console is part of b and ba and we had forgot to report it. Nothing serious, however, because the Recovery remained accessible and / or restart without his MS usually enough to break the deadlock.
* You bricked your console
The installer of 5.50GEN has no CFW our bug and can not be directly responsible for that. Everything is working 200%, you can be sure Clearly, note that if you have bricked is probably due to a failure of your nand that would have occurred at any other attempt to flash your console including an official.

Note that GENyUS and Yoshihiro currently working to ensure that these mistakes are forgotten as quickly as possible and we will post the Custom Firmware 5.50GEN-D when everything will be validated and verified. A priori, this should not be long and, again, be assured that we are sorry for any panic.

    Ok, but i hope really the GenYus team and yoshihiro use the time well to fix future bugs and errors before realising their cfw GEN-D. Something tells me that they rushed to make the deadline before the cfw 5.50 GEN-C, and not tested it 100%. I understand them, i just hope that they will fix those errors, and also access to the PSN.

      Well the PSN was actually blocked by Sony.

      GEN and M33 are both completely blocked. Unless GenYus can figure out some way to disguise GEN as official firmware then we won’t be gaining access ever.

        They aren’t completely blocked, its because they arent version 6.10. as soon as (if) we get a 6.10 GEN/m33 we should be able to access the PSN again, not only that, there is STILL the mediaGO option.

        New MMS could be tricky, if you don’t have a card reader, other than your PSP. The battery depends on slim or phat. If it’s a slim battery, check the forums of this page.. in the “Time Capsule” section, I have a stickied thread, explaining how to hard mod a slim battery. MMS, well.. buy a card reader for your computer?

    Now I’m kinda glad that I don’t have my PSP’s charger at the moment… But hopefully this comes before the weekend so that I can get this when I CFW my PSP again.

    im grateful for the gen c since as soon as it was put up i had it installed on 3 psp 1001 and all three are working the only problem i have is with the launcing of my iso from irshell but i knew it wouldnt work before i downloaded it but everything else works

    From the sounds of it, the cause of a brick during updating was CXMB, huh? Right, gotta remember to disable all plugins before upgrading! I’ll just wait until GEN-D though. I hope someone makes a CXMB for it if the plugin doesn’t work out of the box!

    I did this ^_^;;; I figured out how to fix it on my own. Then I had to redo ALL the settings including Remote Play :(

    Now, seriously, I do not understand how people can call the CFW gen-crap, it’s great that they are free to say and say what they want, but if you bring so much trouble using this CFW that offers all these services, use the OFW and do not complain.
    These individuals worked their lives to do this without asking anything in return and then tell them that their system is crap?
    Although it dont works with my psp, I must congratulate the team for achieving this, even if the system fails is a great achievement, no system is perfect and errors usually occur when thousands of users make use of them.
    stop mourn, because it’s free and I see none of the people who complain and giving indications even close to achieving this

      Worked great for me, except CXMB so I went back to GEN-B for the time being. This is free so nobody should complain, at least they sent out an apology right away, they could’ve just ignored evyones complaints…

      while i agree with you, its only to an extent of, i agree people shouldnt bitch about free stuff not working. i however do not like GEN very much, but see my thing is, i dont care too much because i can stay with 5.00 m33-6 and live because there’s a lot of stuff out there that you can make things work on the older firmwares. I dont like GEN simply because a lot of plugin’s dont work properly with it, a lot of emulators are broken because of this (i dont know if they fixed that in C or not, but it was annoying) the most i’ve seen from gen is ISO/CSO support, which, while useful isnt the only thing i want from my PSP. on top of that, i couldnt even use Hellcat’s recovery flasher to go back when i was using GEN-B2, so i had to make a pandora out of my battery (luckily after some research this was simple to do). So this is me saying i dont like GEN much right now, it could use some improvements. However, they did work hard, and they released something that other people can use, and it wasnt TOO bad, just didnt suit me. So i agree with the dont bash them for it, but find an alternative (whcih is either… OFW, yes, run scared children, and 5.00 m33 which is still decent).

    and my psp 2004 TA-85v2 is working perfectly and i have no problem with any games
    as i speak my psp is running final fantasy dissidia on 5.50 gen-c

      its just awesome e dont have to patch games wich is really annoying
      i havnt seen any bugs so its okay for me
      but if they want to make an update something is wrong

      i hear u man, i have a PSP 2001 with M33-6 and a PSP 2000 with GEN-C, but im still waiting to for a CFW that can go on my PSP 3000. but for now i just use the CFW Enabler.

    It may have been very bugged but at least GEN is trying so that way we can keep our CFW and play newer games that would require a higher OFW than 5.50

    Hi everybody!
    I need some help if possible
    I really don’t know how do to anything with PSP and only download some themes and ISO for my son. I bought a PSP for my son in law as well and I believe his PSP2001 PB MODEL is the famous PSP TA-830V3 but I am not sure and now to make things worst we upgrade the OFW to 6.10. Now my son is playing all his games and stuff while my son in law cannot do anything with his PSP.
    Now, the one million dollar question:
    Does anyone knows if I can “downgrade” his PSP from 6.10 to a 5.xx version. It sonds like thiS new CFW 5.50GEN- D is the solution. Please help me I dont know what to do anymore and I cannot afford another PSP!

      Unfortunately, all you can do for now, is wait for a exploit for 6.10. seeing as how GEN/M33 don’t seem to be doing that, you may have to wait for a while, but eventually the day will come. so don’t worry, it will happen sooner or later

        Unless u want to hardmod a battery and make a MMS, then u MIGHT be able to install M33-6 then upgrade to GEN-C/D, thats how i did it.

        I guess I will wait for a whie. coz I dont even know how to make a pandora baterry! lol since I am from Brazil, all PSP acessories are very expensive here and I dont want to play around with this and end up with a bricked PSP.

        Hey mate, here’s a cheap as Pandora battery, I recomend it due to it worked for me and my mates psp 2000′s

        You can make your own MMS with PS Grader

      If you take out your battery and post the first 3 or 4 digits of the serial number, we could probably figure out if it’s really a v3 mobo for you. If it’s not, then you could use eBay to get a cheap datel/pandora battery to fix your problem… and any future ones that arise. You may even be able to use your son’s PSP to software mod the battery, without having to risk breaking anything, to make a pandora battery to use on your son-in-law’s PSP. Then you could **easily** put the battery back to normal again.

      Not sure if GEN-D will have a way to downgrade, only way that I know will work for sure is to use a MMS and a Pandora’s Battery as this is what I did to get out of the GEN-C and back to GEN-B…Good luck though.

    1000/2000!

    1. Purchass a Pandora Battery here ($6.32 USD)

    3. Wait for battery in mail…

    4. Make sure nothing is in PSP! Nothing!

    5. Insert Magic Memory Stick (MMS), and
    then insert pandora battery

    6. The system should yurn on,
    So as soon as you see that green
    light, Quicly press and hold the
    “L” trigger.

    7. PSP will load up in new menu, Ofcourse you select
    “Flash 5.00 M33″

    8. When you load up your newly installed
    CFW, You will have a blank white background,
    This is normal, Go into themes and change it!

    Your all done and can now begin enjoying
    CFW!!

    Notes:
    Hold “R Trigger” on boot-up for recovery mode
    To play copy’d ISO’s, Press select, and
    change UMD ISO Mode to “M33 Driver”

    porque aki no BRASIL realmente o psp é bem complicadinho o meu jah comprei desbloqueado e recomendo que faça o mesmo e lembre-se nunca atualize psp algum porque isso pode acabar com as chances de desbloqueio nos casos da TA88V3 ou 3000 que estejam acima do firmware 5.03
    é vender ou ficar com ele bloqueado

    People who complained for this cfw and got a brick kinda deserve it….if u dont give someone time to completely test it out than obviously ure gonna have problems…..They are also humans after all so they will make mistakes and on top of that they are doing this for free so I dont see a reason for them apologizing….besides as everyone that makes any kind of firmware says “use it at your own risk”

      NO.. it’s a full firmware, only for fully hackable PSPs. There are absolutely ZERO full firmwares for v3s or 3k PSPs. Trust me, when one is released it will be a huge deal and it will definitely be explicitly said that it’s for those currently unhackable PSPs.

    use hellcats recovery flasher 1.6 to change ur firmware back 5.00m33-6 to play ur games again

    wut if seen to work is if u need to fix ur internet problem or ur usb connection just plug in ur pandora n go into service mode then go to NAND operations then go to idstorege the go to create new idstorege n put ur real region n real mac address n it will fix it. it worked for me soo it will prbly work for u guys

    When i installed gen-c, when i tryed to turn it on, it gets glitched and turns off again. But i format flash1 with default settings and it worked! even before this article came out! Currently the thingy says Firmware Gen-C and all my games work perfecly fine. Yea…. So good luck!

      i dont know how likely that is, why go through all the trouble of making it just for himself? its the same ammount of effort it would take to release it, aside from uploading it, on top of that, there’s already stuff to allow people to do whatever they need on the older firmwares, so no reason to have new firmware when he could just keep 5.00 and run whatever he wants. on one hand i do agree with you seeing as he would possibly not like how his CFW was being slandered by some, and felt that people were ungreatful to him for what he did, and just didnt feel like sharing with those he werent grateful for what he did. so either way, he could be, or he could always not be.

    i just found out mysel-hehe
    no need to patched any games
    like grand tourismo, ive tested it —it booted imediately w/out being patched
    though you have to enter recovery menu, because,,and it will cause a freeze when u boot ur psp
    either reboot or shut down…
    the time you,ve updated w/ a custom theme installled in ur flash0,, liked what happen to most poeple
    (i think) hehe….
    by the way flash0 have a version text 610 intalled built-in in gen-c
    so u dont have 2 overwrite version txt,,,incase u want to try metal gear solid demo…
    all patched games either for 5.00m33-6 or 5.50 gen works perfectly…..
    soi don’t think this gen-c is a crap or something……..

    okay its true im going to 6.10 normel fimeware i thought about it now wot will happen wen lbp psp comes out i really love that game because on ps3 lbp my fav game and ill love it to be on psp even if a homebrew update came out that allows u to play lbp on a psp with custom fimeware i wouldent be able to do it because wen i try updating to 3.52 m33-2/3.52 m33-4 it bricks soz guys goodbye custom fimeware ):

    Can anyone help me on installing 5.50 Gen-D, all i get is “the game cannot be started, the data is corrupted” when I click on the 5.50-D update in my PSP. i put the fire in the game dir. I also tried going to the recovery menu to try and flash, wont let me do that either, I hold down the R on boot and doest do anything..HELP

    hey psp fan and other im not sure if i was the first person to figure this out. i tried on a psp 3000 i used chick hen then i used cfw enabler and i tried hellcats recovery flasher and it worked and my psp 3000 runs on 5.00 m33-6 i dont know if any one has tryed this :P but it works so i hope u guys try this! :)
