Custom Firmware 5.50 GEN-B Released.
GENyUS and the PSPGen crew have just released PSP Custom Firmware 5.50 GEN-B. Note this is for PSP-1000 and PSP-2000’s TA088v2 or less motherboards only. Not for PSP-3000’s or TA088v3> PSP-2000’s. 5.50 GEN-B introduces a few minor changes. There is now a Pandora battery maker in the VSH. (You can make your battery a Pandora battery or back to a normal battery right from the VSH Menu) of course this is on supported batteries / PSP models that you can make a Pandora with. The PSN store is also working in 5.50 GEN-B.
Requirements:
- A PSP-1000 and PSP-2000’s TA088v2 motherboard or less only. Not for PSP-3000’s or TA088v3 + PSP-2000’s
- Custom Firmware 5.50 GEN-A
Custom Firmware 5.50 GEN-B Changelog (Translated from French):
* Fixed the bug that stopped the VSH Menu.
* The select button can either start the Recovery (Recovery in VSH), the VSH Menu (by Dufaut) or do nothing at all (for those who use the remote play between PSP and PS3)
* Updated rÚseau M33 dÚsactivÚe
* The game Evangelion Jo works.
* Pandorisation options are available in the VSH menu and Recovery
* Option Flash1 Format: adding a check that empÛche format the Flash1 if one is in the VSH.
* 3 new functions in the VSH Menu
o Shutdown device
o Make Normal Battery (Replace the battery in standard mode)
o Make Pandora Battery (pandodrise battery)
Source: PSPGen
This update requires 5.50 GEN-A to be installed…

I was quick this time lol. I’m installing it now on my PSP-2003. See if its any good..
July 2, 2009 at 12:35 pm
Ok on first installing this hitting select didn’t bring up the VSH menu. You have to restart your PSP and hold R shoulder to enter recovery and then in the config enable the VSH Menu. For some reason PSPGen have this disabled as default.
Is it worth the update from 5.00 M33-6? Yes if you want access to the Playstation Store. If your not worried about the Store and could not care less for the new 5.50 features. Then stay put on 5.00 M33-6
July 2, 2009 at 8:44 am
we beat psp-hacks to it, i though they updated every half hour

July 2, 2009 at 8:51 am
hey shutup many people have worked hard for this and they dont need people like you to disgurage them. why dont you get a life rather than just insult
July 2, 2009 at 11:47 am
LOL! The software is not stupid you know? It is YOU who is stupid enough to update your PSP 3k to 5.50 OFW..
July 2, 2009 at 1:05 pm
LOL! ha ha ha, i agree with you, we call things stupid because it is no good to us, well in fact it is him who has no value to the software.

I’m still running M33 CFW, but now the its users are no longer able to access PSN, I’m thinking about switching to GEN. But the only thing that’s keeping me from using GEN is its inability to run 1.5 applications. Should I just go ahead and switch to GEN or keep running M33 until support for 1.5 applications is implemented into GEN? How far away would that be?

July 2, 2009 at 12:26 pm
So what does this mean that even psp 3k with 5.03 cant use this???? and before you say anything i know its a noob question but i just wanna know to make sure
July 2, 2009 at 12:30 pm
NO why you people don’t make difference between Custom firmware and custom firmware enabler-they are completly different things
July 2, 2009 at 12:47 pm
Yeah that is a noob question. Dont take it to heart but we are tired of hearing it. Read the forums, comments, etc. BEFORE posting questions. You will find answers to your questions without being tormented.
July 2, 2009 at 4:14 pm
yeah in retrospect i should of done that first
July 2, 2009 at 12:55 pm
I am new to this website and I have no clue whan enabler mean and I need to know what type of battery I have without opening it!. I have a Red God Of War PSP. Can someone please KINDLY answear my question. I
July 2, 2009 at 1:02 pm
You dont need to make / use a pandora battery. You can use ChickHEN to install Custom Firmware (CFW) on your PSP. The God of War edition is deffinately permaHackable. I have one too. What firmware are you currently running?
July 2, 2009 at 1:27 pm
thanks u who has created this software .It works like shit!
July 2, 2009 at 1:28 pm
What is your F****ing problem? Go play in traffic!!!!

July 2, 2009 at 1:37 pm
OH, just as a heads up…. When I updated to GEN B the pops loader for GEN A started having issues. I switched to the M33-6 popsloader and it is working perfectly. I know its wierd but, I thought it was worth a shot and I’m not having any problems with Soul Reaver. If your having pops problems give it a try.
July 2, 2009 at 1:52 pm
the evanjelion jo compatibility is the highlight….and PSN access…. genYus definitely put a lot in this one….
i hope they don’t expose how they worked around the evanjelion check….. or another update will pop up….

July 2, 2009 at 4:28 pm
Good job guys… now we need to upgrade 5.03 Gen-A for the 3000
July 2, 2009 at 4:44 pm
Surely thier is a hack for PSP 3k firmware 5.50 bec. sony had released a new firmware 5.51 to fix its previous firmwares..Homebrews are falling behind while sony is getting it lead back. I HOPE you guys can catch up… as for i i have to wait alitle longer and avoid that update icon…
July 2, 2009 at 6:26 pm
Homebrew is falling behind? How long have you been using homebrew on your PSP 3k with 5.50 OFW? You should probably just go ahead and click the update icon.
July 3, 2009 at 5:38 am
I’m having a thought on updating it into a 5.51 =(
July 2, 2009 at 4:46 pm
I hope they can FiX Resistance Retribution online gameplay. Playing Resistance Retribution online is kinda frustrating coz the game is very slow and laggy.
July 2, 2009 at 6:12 pm
Yeah…. Cause that wasn’t random at all. Completely on the point of this disscussion. Good input buddy…
July 2, 2009 at 6:10 pm
DO WE NEED CFW FOR THIS?
July 2, 2009 at 6:11 pm
nevermind, cause it needs GEN-A and it says Corruped data on mine.
Don’t need to waste time.
July 2, 2009 at 6:12 pm
This is Custom Firmware!!!!! READ MUCH?
July 2, 2009 at 6:54 pm
It seems iRShell doesn’t work on this. Its a shame because I really liked that mod, but I’d rather stay up to date on my firmware.
July 2, 2009 at 7:18 pm
I’ve been going back and forth between gen and M33 for a while. I just want Gen so that I could make a pandora battery. is it worth it? im on 5.00M33-6 currently. and does it support making pandoras with PSP 1000 batterys? a friend tried and it didnt work. I have PSP1000.
July 2, 2009 at 7:24 pm
It work on all fats and some slims
July 2, 2009 at 7:27 pm
Hi guys. I just put 5.00 M33-6 on my 2000 the other day. This was the first time I have ever modded my PSP with CFW and thanks to all of the guides and comments on here, it worked perfectly. Loved the fact that ChickHEN dosent require Pandora.
My question is, I’m still reading and learning about the differences in the CFW’s for the PSP. I do undersatand that 5.50 GEN-B will allow me to get to the PSN again. Is that the only reason it would be worth it to change from 5.00 M33-6? Is there any other reason I would want to change. From my reading I think I understand that since I am already on 5.00 M33-6 that the change to 5.50 GEN-B is simple and does not require the Pandora’s battery. I assume that if I also change to 5.50 GEN-B its also a Permahack like the 5.00 M33-6? Appreciate the info and help.
July 3, 2009 at 7:50 am
Three answeres. One – apparently 5.50 GEN – B can defeat sony’s new ram check for CFW so, if true, it is worth the switch. Two- Yes, this is a permenant hack/flash to your firmware. Three – just run the GEN -A installer by putting it in your Game folder then run the GEN – B update. you’re current CFW will run it fine.
July 2, 2009 at 8:26 pm
I Don’t think it worths. because almost all programs out there for PSP are designed to work on m33 cfw. I know they may work on GEN too and appreciate team GEN’s work, but the best cfw for PSP is M33!!! forever!!!
July 2, 2009 at 8:48 pm
davee! help! I updated my 3k to 5.50 and you said 5.50 could be hacked could you please help!?! I’ll do almost anything!
July 2, 2009 at 9:31 pm
FOOL!!!! Who told you 5.50 could be hacked? Those were only rumors and it has not been confirmed to work still. It might, at some point. But not yet…. Sorry dude…
July 2, 2009 at 9:32 pm
you’ll do almost anything? I guess you can sell it and try to buy a new one in-store with a lower firmware…
July 3, 2009 at 5:43 am
Dude we both have the same problem… what they released is for PSP 1000 & 2000 models only…
July 2, 2009 at 10:21 pm
I downgraded back to 5.00 M33-6, iRShell > PSN since I don’t buy anything off PS Store.
July 2, 2009 at 11:47 pm

Exactly, it’s a matter of time before m33 is updated.
July 3, 2009 at 4:51 am

July 3, 2009 at 5:55 am
When are they gonna give us 3k users some more updates?
I’m tired of 5.03. D:
July 4, 2009 at 12:21 am
Here’s a better translation of the changelog:
What you need:
* A PSP-1000 or PSP-2000 v1 or v2 already running Custom Firmware 5.50 GEN-A. DO NOT attempt to install this on a PSP-3000 or any PSP with a TA-088v3 motherboard.
5.50 GEN-B [translated] changes:
* Bug fix: the VSH menu can now be disabled
* Pressing Select can start the recovery, bring up the VSH recovery menu, or do nothing at all (for those who wish to use Remote Play between their PSP and PS3)
* Update via Network (taken from M33)
* * That Evangelion Jo game we told you about; it can be launched & played now
* Pandora (converting the battery to/from the Pandora-state) and Shutdown Device options added to the VSH menu
* Flash1 format option adds a check that prevents a flash1 format if enabled
* Access [remains open] to the PlayStation Store and Remote Play continues working
* Playing Evangelion: Jo without having to patch the ISO is a bit unstable. This is more or less a proof-of-concept to bypass the newly introduced CFW check. Proper details on countering this protection will be released later. For now — very quickly press Triangle & Circle when starting the game. It should work.

Any updates for people who “accidentally” to upgrade to 5.51? Is there a way to downgrade or
pretty much SOL? Does the GTA downgrade still work if there isn’t a easier solution? thanks!
July 4, 2009 at 4:54 pm
Nothing yet, sorry. If there was something you would really hear about it, trust me.

July 6, 2009 at 3:24 am
Well. This is great, My PSP is now bricked. I’d say, STICK WITH 5.00M33-6. I have a PSP 2001-TA88v2. So I can’t use my MMS and Pandora to fix it.
July 6, 2009 at 10:54 am

Hi everyone, I have had my PSP running the GENAproject for about 3-4 weeks now (my mind is not so good)) been drinking unfortunately
well not too unfortunate. but I like to play the simple games and no need to run to the next piece of firmware. I appreciate all the hard work the guys and gals have put into these things and as a very simple needs man (not to mention simple minded) I am happy at last I can play my 3006 with virtually no problem at all!!!! This crack firmware is only for now. More will have to come. The people who are biatching about the problems they have had, I say do one yourself, if you want to play PS1 PSX games whatever buy a modded machine and deal with it… Sorry peeps, developers keeps doing what your are doing.. YOU ARE FANTASTIC, DC

July 8, 2009 at 10:13 am
M33 Vs GEN… The Decision is moving closer to GEN Lately. If only there was a way to “Duel Boot” a PSP…
I wonder if Dark Alex’s Timemachine can be rewritten to allow this? CFW / OFW switching would solve a lot of waiting when ever Sony causes more problems.
July 12, 2009 at 2:44 am
There once was a attempt to dualboot but come to find out it make the psps clock could only fun a 60 megahertz so thats why it can’t be possible
July 12, 2009 at 3:17 pm
On a Deep Red Gow PSP 2000. Upgraded to GenB from 5.00 m33-6. I did to regain access to RB:U DLC. POPSloader works without issues for me (wth m33 pops files). I accessed the recovery menu to disable game plugins in advanced settings so that demos and games from the PSN would run. I also activated the VSH menu. I lost nothing and regained some functionnalities.
July 13, 2009 at 4:06 pm
Help meeeee
my PSP is 1001

July 13, 2009 at 4:57 pm
Im pretty sure you’ll need cfw first.
that means pandora and MMS for you.
THEN you can do this.
July 15, 2009 at 8:58 pm

access vsh menu by presing select button
look for “umd iso mode”
then look for “m33 driver” by pressing left or right
if with cfw 5.00m33-6 below select “sony np9660″ instead
