Custom Firmware 503 GEN-B released.

Custom Firmware 5.03 GEN-B has been released. This custom firmware update for PSP-3000 / PSP-2000 TA-088v3 owners now lets users play original firmware 5.55+ games with out the need of Game Decrypter. So no more eboot patching and rebuilding ISO’s with UMDGen. Your now level with 5.50 GEN-D2 users, same options more or less.

Custom Firmware 5.03 GEN-B Release notes:

Background of core functions:

* Compatible with PSP-3000 and PSP-2000 v3 official firmware 5.03
* Play backups of games REQUIRE PSP firmware above 5.03, including 6.xx
* Reading UMD REQUIRE firmware above 5.03, including 6.xx
* Reading UMD / ISO games protected against the custom firmware.
* Play of PS1 games
* GEN available VSH MENU (SELECT)
* Recovery in VSH available
* Reading Homebrews
* Etc..

It is time to get down to that angry because we have failed to resolve.

Known Bugs:

* MGS demo refuses to run
We’ve tried everything and what works in 5.50GEN-D2 has not worked in the 5.03GEN-B. Pity …

* The Recovery mode menu is “mixed”
The RECOVERY MODE 5.02GEN-A has been patched to run on the PSP-3000. It can change the most usual options but we encounter some problems with this VSH Recovery in and we have not managed to fix it. In fact, the menu sees some of his lines not properly allocated and others who do not work. Note that on a PSP-3000, the recovery is useless, or nearly so, since all the useful features found in the VSH menu or in Ultimate VSH menu Total_Noob of Total_Noob we strongly recommend that you install.

Remember in order to update to 5.03 GEN-B you need to have 5.03 GEN-A already up and running. *Not needed you can go straight to 5.03 GEN-B. Here are some tips to get on the road to CFW 5.03 GEN-B :

Ok first up you’ll need a PSP-3000 or PSP-2000 with a TA-088v3 *duh…

Now make sure your running Firmware 5.03 or less (On FW 5.03+ Sorry this isn’t for ya. ChickHEN only works on 5.03!)

Install chickHEN R2 and get it running. This will help: Guide to running ChickHEN R2

Once in the Homebrew Enabled Environment aka HEN, run GEN-B. Simple!

Oh and while your at it, Team GEN recommends you install this: Ultimate VSH Menu Revised by Total_Noob, it will give you some useful VSH Menu functions since the Recovery Menu is practically useless….

Hi guys, just helping out on my findings, as I found out a way to run the MGS PeaceWalker

Demo (BOTH OLD and the TSG version) with the new CFW 5.03 GEN-B for HEN after getting my

hands on it.

After successfully updating to GEN-B from GEN-A, I installed the Ultimate VSH Plugin by

Total_Noob as recommended by the Gen guys.

Once done, using the Ultimate VSH menu I entered the recovery menu and did the following:

Under configuration:
1) enabled Autorun program at PSP/GAME/BOOT/EBOOT.PBP
2) UMD MODE is currently: Sony NP9660 -no UMD-
3) Fake region is Disabled
4 Use VshMenu set to Recovery
5) Use M33 network update is currently Disabled
6) Use version.txt is enabled

*Note, I used the Recovery from Ultimate VSH not the standard VSH that came with CFW 5.03

GEN-B since it does suck!

Then back to the main recovery menu, go into
Advanced ->
Advanced configuration ->
SET* Plain modules in UMD/ISO ( to enabled)
SET* Execute BOOT.BIN in UMD/ISO (to enabled)
XMB plugins (leave enabled)
SET* GAME plugins ( to disabled)
POPS plugins (leave enabled)

Once done that hit BACK till you exit the Recovery menu back to the XMB.

(Now to my knowledge this is good enough to run the MGS Demo but i went the extra mile to

update the version.txt with this :-

and the simplest way to do
that was use Update Trick 2.5 by Chiri_13 and edit the

version.txt for 5.51 since that’s the only available option to update the version.txt in

that homebrew.)

**Now I’m not sure what it says in the original version.txt provided with the new CFW 5.03

GEN-B since I’m lazy and did not bother to get inside Flash0 to retrieve it. If anyone could

kindly provide me that particular version.txt it would be sweet!

After about 15 mins of messing around or deciding to mess around actually (lol) I got the

demo(s) both the old and TGS versions to work and I must add I feel it’s not much of a big

hassle. Wonder why GEN team couldnt get this working!

that update trick piece of shit semi-bricked my psp! now when i boot into ANY cfw i get a red screen with lots of errors. How the hell do i fix that?!?!

5.50 gen (any version) is not compatible with psp 3000 or psp 2000 v3. only 5.03 gen is compatible. to try to use 5.50 gen (any version) will brick your psp.

that’s exactly what i did, that’s how i got it to work the first time, before posting it here (about being the first to run MGS demo on 5.03 gen-b). I tinkered with all the settings, aside from installing and uninstalling it a few times. Congratulations aljr1021, enjoy!

I’ve never tried to use a PS1 game on my psp, but it looks like this has built in support so i might try it. Is there any tutorial anywhere for Gen-b? Do i just decrypt a PS1 iso and copy it into the iso folder like I would with one of my psp games?

Hi, there is a tutorial about that in this website. Go to the tutorials section. I just play my 1st PS1 games using that tutorial..

I can tell you that the EBOOT file goes in the GAME folder but I’m not sure on how to go about extracting that EBOOT file.

Thanks for the reply. One more thing, if anyone can answer it, how do you enter the VSH menu? I want to start Total_Noobs vsh menu. I tried holding down R and starting the gen-b update, but it didn’t do anything. Thanks

i found it out.
So for those who uses Categories as a plugin and wants to play the MGS demo. You may have made a category for it. For example – Demos. However, for it to run properly, you cannot have the demo in a “CAT_” folder. you have to put it in the GAME root. and have version.txt enable. I hope this helps for others as well. This may apply for other games or demos. You may want to try it out if you use the Game Categories plugin.

Hmm…I’m still hesitant to switch from 5.03 MHU. Is it worth the change (I have no use for newer firmware games currently)? I heard 3.70 CFWe is in the works.

its optional…team gen create for user(psp 3000) that want a feature like D2…but its normal it had bugs coz its hard for them,they have other thing to do rather create cfw for us… but believe it soon the bugs will be fix..

Hey i need some help ASAP. I downloaded it etc. Did it all correctly and it was working fine, But then i turned my PSP Off completely, I know im not ment too but i was curious to see what would happen, Now i can get ChickHEN to load etc. GEN-B yeah yeah. But when i go to run a game for instance Ridge Racer PSone, It will go the the SONY Entertainment screen and then take me back to the XMB.

With the message :

The Game Could Not Be Started: Error Code ( 80010016 ).

Someone should know what’s happening atm, And if so could they reply. I think i may have to re-do something.

Is there any custom firmware out atm that is permanent? Eg, I can turn off and turn back on without the worry of something not being bale to load till i reload something?

i would half to say try turning off your psp again and restarting chickhen and gen-B and if that doesn’t work go in to the vsh menue change your driver in the umd iso mode to m33 driver
should work after that if not sorry bro

and if that’s a psp 3k or a 2k with a v3 mobo there’s only this temporary stuf which woks great personally just pop it in power-save and your on the go.

mmk if you hit the select button your vsh menu pops up (careful because you could possibly fk up ur psp if u mes around with the wrong stuff) go down till you have the “umd Iso Mode” selected and if not alredy selected hit the L or R arrow on the D-pad till u have “m33 driver” selected. and if none of that works do what the guy below me said and reformat your stick and re do it all.

try formatting ure memory stick and than load chickHEN……then uninstalling the current cfw and installing a different cfw like gen-A or mhu and see if u face the same problems….make sure to back up ure data

i think we should wait for the CFWEnabler 3.70. according to their website (Team MHU) they still planing for the new CFWEnabler. We know MHU is much stable than the gen.

worked gret. mini tuto:
1. Uninstall any of CFWEnabler, try using 3.51 and 3.60 to unistall everything.
2. run the GEN-A installer, press R or L to Install, after Instalation sucefull press Triangle.
3. run CFW 5.03 GEN-B quick update and…. tada.
thats how i manage to 5.03 GEN-B and Undead Knights stoped crushing my psp after trying to save after chapter 5.

Hi have an PSP 2000 (TA-88v3) with ChicHEN R2+ GEN-B (for HEN)
and I can play PS1 games (hogs of war, for example) without a previous version.

It’s not permanent. If you shut it down, you have to do the entire process again.

Actually, it seems I’ve been proven wrong. A plugin called Sedna was released earlier today which is supposed to keep the PSP in CFW when it reboots. It may still return to 5.03, but the plugin should improve things for you.

What will happen with a bricked play station portable 3000 or 2000 is there a chance to create exploit or something to unbrick it because i replase my original them from theme who is not for my psp in flash0 it was a .pmf file and when i turn it on understand it’s bricked.
So is there a change for who I have to wait please commnet.

You may be able to pay Sony to fix it (since you voided your warranty by hacking) but they’ll probably give you 6.10. Sorry, that’s your fault for not reading the warnings.

FOR THOSE OF WHO YOU ARE EXPERIENCING THE “NOW BOOTING INTO GEN-B” MESSAGE THAT JUST BOOTS INTO GEN-A
do the following:
Shut your PSP down.
Take battery out.
Start ChickHENR2.
When in ChickHEN environment, boot up the GEN-B installer.
WHILST it is booting, hold down the left shoulder button
you should see a menu that says “GEN-B emergency installer”
just press X and it will flash the files and all should be well again

I’m gonna go try it out after I install Gen-B. Or I’ll just wait for the CFWe 3.70 port. But yes, this means no more annoying ChickHEN attempts and reflashing every single time you do a hard boot.

Well, seeing as my other post is awaiting moderation, I’m just going to say again that a plugin named Sedna is out that allows you to reboot the PSP and still keep Gen-B, hide the ChickHEN tiff icon, hide Network Update, and other stuff.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 worked only after i used game decrypter on eboot.bin…….
wasn’t the point of 5.03 GEN-B run those games without using game decrypter, correct me if i’m wrong…

uhh im sorry if this may seem dumb :S…. i have a psp 2000 with ofw 6.10 i dont wanna try a pandora method on it because i heard i can brick it if i got a v3 motherboard.. any suggestions? i can no longer install chickHEN as the fw is ofw 6.10 *sigh*

if u use pandora on 88v3 mobo it wont brick ure psp cause it just wont work….try using pandora and if u get a blank screen than u have a 88v3 mobo…..not sure of the specifics cause by the time I can to psp scene it was already the phase of soft modding
