Custom Firmware 503 GEN-B released.

Custom Firmware 5.03 GEN-B has been released. This custom firmware update for PSP-3000 / PSP-2000 TA-088v3 owners now lets users play original firmware 5.55+ games with out the need of Game Decrypter. So no more eboot patching and rebuilding ISO’s with UMDGen. Your now level with 5.50 GEN-D2 users, same options more or less.

Custom Firmware 5.03 GEN-B Release notes:

Background of core functions:

* Compatible with PSP-3000 and PSP-2000 v3 official firmware 5.03
* Play backups of games REQUIRE PSP firmware above 5.03, including 6.xx
* Reading UMD REQUIRE firmware above 5.03, including 6.xx
* Reading UMD / ISO games protected against the custom firmware.
* Play of PS1 games
* GEN available VSH MENU (SELECT)
* Recovery in VSH available
* Reading Homebrews
* Etc..

It is time to get down to that angry because we have failed to resolve.

Known Bugs:

* MGS demo refuses to run
We’ve tried everything and what works in 5.50GEN-D2 has not worked in the 5.03GEN-B. Pity …

* The Recovery mode menu is “mixed”
The RECOVERY MODE 5.02GEN-A has been patched to run on the PSP-3000. It can change the most usual options but we encounter some problems with this VSH Recovery in and we have not managed to fix it. In fact, the menu sees some of his lines not properly allocated and others who do not work. Note that on a PSP-3000, the recovery is useless, or nearly so, since all the useful features found in the VSH menu or in Ultimate VSH menu Total_Noob of Total_Noob we strongly recommend that you install.

Remember in order to update to 5.03 GEN-B you need to have 5.03 GEN-A already up and running. *Not needed you can go straight to 5.03 GEN-B. Here are some tips to get on the road to CFW 5.03 GEN-B :

Ok first up you’ll need a PSP-3000 or PSP-2000 with a TA-088v3 *duh…

Now make sure your running Firmware 5.03 or less (On FW 5.03+ Sorry this isn’t for ya. ChickHEN only works on 5.03!)

Install chickHEN R2 and get it running. This will help: Guide to running ChickHEN R2

Once in the Homebrew Enabled Environment aka HEN, run GEN-B. Simple!

Oh and while your at it, Team GEN recommends you install this: Ultimate VSH Menu Revised by Total_Noob, it will give you some useful VSH Menu functions since the Recovery Menu is practically useless….

When i tried to copy decrypted games Gen-B doesn’t seem to recognize the iso file.

Did you put the games in the ISO folder on the root of your memory stick or in the Game folder?

hey guys.. at least im in trouble.. cant get back the gen-b after i install the mhu again. the prompt says reboot to gen-b.. but it still in gen-a.. and after no 5.50 games can play.. i guess i would go back to the mhu.. gen-b there is a lot of bug..

you are the bug itself why you have installed the shitty MHU on gen-b without clean the install ou want to brick your psp maybe now use L to bypass the check and reinstall the gen-B in emergency mode

I had the decrypted version of GTA Chinatown Wars, and when i tried to exit the psp freezed at the “Please Wait…” sign.

After install the GEN – B, I wasn’t able to run any ISO, now I put the CFW Enabler 3.60 and is working, even Persona is running again, but some iso is not starting anymore and then appears this message “The game could not be started (80020148)

Make sure you use the Uninstall option before switching CFW’s. You can mess up your PSP if you have a clogged RAM since your RAM is filled with both GEN and MHU.

Why is everyone having problems? I guess I haven’t had to “re-install” it, since I use PSP Power Saver plugin and sleep mode…annd I don’t keep switching back to MHU/CFWE (because Why would you need to?). Also, both the old MGS PW Demo And the New MGS PW Demo work fine (“Yay underwear cutscenes!” Kidding…mostly. =^[ )- have myself a new wallpaper and Everything. I haven’t tried adjusting the CPU Speed or anything…but, then again, haven’t needed to. I haven’t changed the plugins from the Recovery Menu, since people were reporting problems, but I change the 0′s to 1′s in the various txts, and that seems to work.

This is pretty much everything I wanted, so THANK YOU GEN TEAM. Hope all the tiny bugs (regarding recovery menu) get worked out, but this is pretty damn great.

*sigh, no I’m not lying, fellow anonymous internet commenter. I honestly don’t know how it’s working for me and not Them- someone else in the older comments said it worked for them as well, so I’m guessing I’m not the only one.

I checked the version text file in the “flash 0″- it said something like, “version 9.90″ or something, and then a slightly varied text from the “version 6.10″ text. I was going to change it to the proper 6.10 text, but then decided to try this “9.90″ thing insted- Surprisingly, it worked. I used the M33 Driver and yeah- I don’t know what else to say. I’m using a PSP 3000.

So far it works for me too, but it seems to lose battery quickly, even when I make it sleep. What is the PSP Power Saver plugin. Could you give me a step by step for install? that would be awesome

i rather decypt all my games successfully
than have all these ISO glitch problems in GEN-B
i got a psp1000 so i can play ps1 games on that ( which i never do anyway lol )
psp3000 ill stick with MHU and play My decypted and fully working ISO/CSO games ( if i cant decrypt then i download with my premium raidshare account ) 1gb of download = 25mins and under xD

I PREVIOUSLY USED 5.03 M33-6 AND SWITCHING TO GEN-B WAS VERY EASY. FIRSTLY: INSTALL GEN-A FULL. THEN RUN GEN-B. NOW IF EVER YOU TURN IT OFF OR REMOVE THE BATTERY, YOU DONT HAVE TO RUN GEN-A AGAIN. JUST RUN CHICKHEN R2 (OF COURSE) AGAIN AND THEN RUN GEN-B UPDATER. YOU WILL THEN BE ON 5.03 GEN-B FULL CFW. THIS IS BECAUSE GEN-A HAS BEEN ALREADY FLASHED INTO YOUR FLASH0. NOW JUST IN CASE YOU STILL END UP IN GEN-A FULL, JUST GO TO RECOVERY MODE AND UNDER CONFIGURATION, ENABLE YOUR VERSION.TXT AND ALSO PUT YOUR UMD MODE INTO SONY NP9660. THEN EXIT AND RE-DO EVERYTHING I STATED ABOVE. I HOPE THIS HELPS EVERYONE.

Ok. I’ll be glad to, so that you and everyone else can enjoy this new game.
First off, go to recovery menu. Under configuration:
1) enabled Autorun program at PSP/GAME/BOOT/EBOOT.PBP
2) UMD MODE is currently: Sony NP9660 -no UMD-
3) Fake region is Disabled
4 Use VshMenu set to Recovery
5) Use M33 network update is currently Disabled
6) Use version.txt is enabled
7) Use Game Categories set to enabled
Very important: Please make sure you follow all these, even they may seem normal, you have to set all these as I stated. For I tried each one till I got it to run. Hope you and everyone else gets to play the game demo and enjoy it as much as I do. peace!

hey guys…I have psp-3004…in the past I tryed to decrypt my SOUL CALIBUR( euro version), GT, and MONSTER DELUXE by yoshihiro decrypter (I used all versions) but nothing worked..now on GEN-B all the previous games worked fine but Soul Calibur iso(euro version) could not be played …error messege appaear (The game could not be started (80020148) ….So any idea or help ? Plz

uninstalled mhu with cfwe 3.51…formatted mem stick…installed chickhen r2…installed 5.03 gen-a…installed gen-b… did the following in the recovery :

i got soul calibur already patch when i was in GEN-A and it works also works on GEN-B but unpatch soul calibur i haven’t try it

I have a psp 2004 – ta-88v3 firmware version 5.03 gen-A full. Just upgrade today whit 5.03 gen-b, worked perfect. I shut down the psp and when i want to intall gen-b not worked. When start the gen-b says “now reboot your psp in cfw 5.03 gen-b” but in system information is 5.03 gen-a (full). What to do to instal gen-b? Sorry for my english.

I had 5.03 Muh installed. I just installed gen A it made my psp crash and reboot in 5.03. I ran chichen 2 again and installed gen b. Now it does not matter which hack i try. They all make my psp crash and hard reset in 5.03. How to i erase all the files from my flash? I know the new hack works but somehow installing gen a and b has made some kinda memory conflict withe file from mhu. Is there a patch to reset the flash back to normal so i can re install only the gen hacks?

had the same issue. here’s what I did:
1. completely power off psp.
2. turn on then format memory card.
3. install and run chickhen R2 successfully.
4. install and run CFW Gen-A.
5. install and run CFW Gen-B.

Can anyone tell me how to reset my flashes back to the original 5.03 ? after installing gen a and b. They are notworking for me. i can run chicken. and the install program then the psp crashes completely. Then if you turn it back on you are in 5.03 again. There must be a way to uninstall gen a and b . Does anyone know how?

Just install a CFWe, preferrably 3.50 or above version..then uninstall the firmware flash.

also you can try this: go to recovery menu, under configurations, go to xmb usb device, then change “memory stick” into flash0. once there, delete all files till its empty. then do a hard reset by manually turning it off and restarting it. it should now be all clear. now you can try again to install anything.

i forgot to mention, that after putting it to flash0, connect your psp to ur pc, then delete it there..then do a hard restart.

I read in the comments that the MGS demo is playable with certain settings. I followed every instruciton. and I still get the error “game cannot be played” something like that… help please. I am in 5.03 gen-b and enabled version.txt and changed drivers. but nothing. tried both demos as well..

yes, it is. i was the first one to do it and so posted it right away in the beginning, coz i got it to run myself. Just tinkered with the recovery settings. here is another tip: try to uninstall it first, using CFWe. Install CWFe also and then uninstall it using a lower version of CFWe. After, dont install the CFWe. Run the Gen-A and then B. Update me as to what happens after.

i followed your instructions. and still no run.
i originally came from CFW MHU. i uninstalled it using lower CFWe. and did all the required steps for GEN A to B. and it never worked.. I dont know whats wrong..

if it doesn’t work that way then go recovery advance>advance configuration and make sure that the execute BOOT.BIN in umd/iso is in disable
