Custom Firmware 3.95 in the works

Same guys over at french site PSP Gen are working on there own custom firmware – GEN. Its still being tested. And there is a major drawback, the PSOne emulator doesn’t work on the PSP Fat. Its possible its due to hardware or memory limitations on the PSP-1000’s. The only change I can see at the moment is the the recovery menu now accessed via Select button instead of Right shoulder button trigger now.

Best wait for Dark Alex’s Custom Firmware 4.00 I think….

Personally I would only use Dark Alex’s Custom Firmware. Not people trying to make a few quick file edits of his hard work to try in get in the spotlight…..I almost didn’t even post this…however its news and there is a lack of that at the moment.

I mean really what does the 3.95 cfw bring? Apart from a broken Pops Emulator on fats and a select button swap for the RV menu??

I agree, Dax is our hero and we shouldn’t go supporting other cfw ‘creators’ (editors). Dax won’t be here forever, but neither will the psp, so people shouldn’t be worried about that. That’s another reason they support these guys. Team M33 is our sony right now..

I don’t agree with you guys!! 3.93 CFW is a fine job (as even M33 have admitted).

I agree the POPS issue is a drawback but access to the recovery menu from XMB is very handy. Also in 3.95 GEN there will be a choice of accessing the regular VSH menu or the recovery menu by pressing select.

To say that 3.95 GEN is an edit job of M33 firmwares is misleading. The NIDS (name identifiers) changed in 3.95 and this is a significant remapping job as they are random in recent ofw releases. It is one of the reasons why there was such a long delay between the release of 3.80 ofw and 3.80 M33. It is also the main reason why M33 have not released a new cfw themselves based on the 3.95 kernel. It is too much work for too little reward.

The fact that we have a new coding team releasing cfw is exciting because it will definately lead to some interesting inovations (such as recovey menu access from XMB). 3.95 cfw and 3.95 GEN (from what I have seen of it) are quality releases – not hack jobs.

Here’s wondering if we’ll see these features incorporated into the next M33 release.

Alright, I think some comments are a bit unfair. Let me explain: first of all, I just acquired a PSP slim, it is a second hand and the person who sold it to me obviously had no idea about cfw as the PSP has just been updated to 3.95. Maybe 3.95GEN is no use to most customized PSPs, but for me it is essential. Otherwise probably I’ll have to wait until ofw 4 comes out and then even longer for the cfw (finding out about cfws is what made me get it in the first place). So think about PSP users who have ofw 3.95 and want to customize.

Secondly, I actually read the post and watch the video of 3.95GEN on the French website (yep, I’m one of them), and they are working really hard on it. The reason why they decided to do it in the first was because DA wasn’t going to make on. Also, they spend some time explaining that they actual work is derived from the work of DA and the M33 team, and they give all credit due to their groundbreaking work.

Finally they are putting a lot of work on it. This is no quick fix job otherwise it would already be available.
Anyway, there is an English translation of their post regarding 3.95GEN if anyone wants to check it out.

    Sednegi:

You don’t seem to understand. This applies to 3.95 users you refer too or even 4.00 users. To get CFW you don’t have to first have that original firmware of that version. (3.95 users need to use 3.95 CFW) No that is simply not true.

You don’t need to wait for this to get custom firmware on your PSP 3.95. Even if you had official firmware 4.00. All you need is a magic memory stick and a Pandora battery. Right now you could flash 3.90 M33 or even a lower firmware if you indeed wanted too.

Please visit our tutorial’s section and in no time you’ll have custom firmware.

    http://pspslimhacks.com/psp-tutorials/

I understand what you mean about there work and effort in 3.90 cfw, but why is the Recovery menu 100% DAX’s work and looks just like any other m33 recovery menu. How original is that? And why is he not receiving any credit for this or his ground work on cfw?

The problem I don’t know anyone with a Pandora battery, and have tried to make one and it will simply won’t read the PB making programs. I have tried with the files to download shown in the tutorial, I have tried despertar v3 and v5. I can’t seem to find one that will work on 3.95. If you have any suggestions I will but more than happy to try.

Your battery might be pandora proof. You could try a old PSP battery or buy a Datel tool psp battery for this purpose.

Well, I won’t be getting 3.95GEn, but I do have CFW 3.93 and in the readme, they gave credit to DAX, so..

Yeah. And CFW 3.93 works just fine on mine. I kinda want my 3.90 M33-3 back, though. I might go Pandora it back on..

    Here is my two cents…

I’ve spent the last couple of days testing, and working to see how this firmware turned out, and honestly this is what I personally came up with…

    1. They did a great job with this… I truly congradulate them on a job well done!!!
    2. They should have released a program with this “GEN-ware” to convert XMB themes to the new Flash0 files.
    3. There are some bugs with both pops loader and emulators (which is bad for you classic gamers…)
    4. Finally the accessibility for this firmware is GREAT!!!!!! I love the Recovery instead of VSH menu idea, really developed!

Overall I give them about a 4/5 on this release! Excellent release!!

P.S. – In my thoughts, if DAX (Team M33) and GEN (PSP Generation) teamed up, they would be one hell of a team!
