ChickHEN release 2 (bugfix) has been released!

: R2 Released - Homebrew now works

True to his word, Davee has released for Firmware 5.03. This release Davee has fixed the homebrew bug and TIFF images have been blocked while in HEN.

[What it does?]
ChickHEN works as a homebrew enabler for all PSP models (1000, 2000 and 3000) and allows execution of homebrew games and apps on 5.03 Official firmware. It can allow you to play games such as Bugz!, Jellycar or run apps such as pspfiler and PSPTube. Homebrew enhances the experience of a normal PSP without any faulty side-effects.

[What it does not do?]
- Run ISO, CSO or any other form of UMD backup.
- Run PSX Games
- Touch The Flash of your beloved PSP
- Magically allow the use of Custom Firmware (on TA-088v3 or PSP 3000)
- Load plugins

[How do I use it?]
Depending on your PSP Model, you’re going to need a specific tiff image. If you have a Phat (1000) PSP, use the tiff image supplied in the “PHAT” folder and  copy it to ms0:/PSP/PHOTO. Else copy the tiff image in the “SLIM” folder to ms0:/PSP/PHOTO.
After you’ve copied the image to your PSP, you can copy the h.bin supplied to the root of the memorystick (ms0:/). This should be sufficient for PSP to reboot into ChickHEN.

[Can it break my PSP?]
ChickHEN works differently to all previous HEN’s. Instead of flashing to flash0, it resides entirely in RAM to prevent any damage to the system. Sure enough, you can run applications in HEN to flash stuff but I strongly recommend against it. ChickHEN comes with no warrenty, no guanantee and you run this software under your own responsibility.

As stated, HEN comes with no warrenty, and this software should not be used in conjunction with homebrew which can countervent any copyright laws.

So just like before depending on weather you have a PSP-1000 (fat) or PSP-2000 / PSP-3000 (slim) place the h.bin file in your MS root and the chickHEN folder with images in PSP/PHOTO on your memory stick pro duo. Now if you don’t have that folder PSP/PHOTO don’t panic just create it and place the folder in there.

For example if you have a PSP-3000 you would put the Slim ChickHEN folder in PSP/PHOTO so it looks like PSP/PHOTO/ChickHEN with the pretty egg gifs inside. (Sorry but we have to be crystal clear for some people it seems!)

Now making sure you have PSP Firmware 5.03 installed, don’t have PSP firmware 5.03? Get it here -> PSP Firmware 5.03

Ok now in the PSP XMB go to Photo’s / Memory stick and then the chickHEN folder and wait! If it works you’ll see a few colours flash and then your PSP is rebooting itself loading up the chickHEN homebrew environment. Now you can go to Game in the XMB and load some homebrew!!. This time it will work!

    yo please every thing worked i have a psp 2004 ta-v088v3 i tried this almost 46 times befor it did work but i waz wondering is there any thing which will enable me to have 5.00m33 for good i mean without using chickhen evreyime i reboot ma psp

    is there any way to install it permanently?? cause if i reboot the psp the 5.03 chiceHEN will be gone…
    Also i used theh CFW enabler 2.51, but it also only runs the cfw, it doenst install it… any ideas??

    Whenever i try to load chickHEN it will get to the silm file and just stop. I have a psp 1000 help.

      Your not suppose to use slim file, your suppose to use phat files

      As of now PSP Chickhen R3 will not be compatible with 5.50

    I tried using the restoring settings thing and it didn’t work straight away, but if you keep on going, it will, honestly. I didn’t think it would work. I have the 2003 model.

    I am using PSP 3000. I need to remove everything – UMD, picture files, music files and video before I can start the ChikHen. Is it a must to remove all? Seem that I got to play new games, but I miss other functions. Can it be fix. Thanks.

      You don’t have to remove everything but it is strongly recommended that you remove any pictures and the umd in order to conserve ram, because the more free ram, the more likely the exploit HEN will load.       In order for this to work you have to update to 5.03 then load the HEN.

    Hi all, i am totally new to this, tried lots of different theorys, mines a psp 1003. what i did was restored to factory settings, removed umd, copied the phat folder to photos on psp, copied the h.bin file to the root folder and it worked straight away!!! nice!!! hope this helps…..

    I found a comment in the forums here and unfortunately I can’t get back to it so i can thank the person who helped me out. I think his name was Shark. Anyway, like him, I have a Japanese version psp 3000. The comments he left were dead on, and I was able to get it installed on the first try. Thanks to him, and to everyone who believes in the spirit of free forums like this. Thanks to all the people who took time out of their busy day to work on these programs, and thanks to this site for compiling all of this info. I really appreciate what you do.

      You need OFW 5.03 to run chickHEN R2. Try using 5.50 GEN-A CFW for PSP 100x & 200x

    I hope theres a chickHEN smoother R2. The official ChickHEN R2 seems to be hard to load to psp slim 2004 w/ original 32mb sony memory stick. I try it for almost 40 times and it seems to be my psp is tired rebooting so i go back to hickHEN Mod – Load ChickHEN smoother and just 1 click, it load to the psp memory.

      You can use the chickHEN mod tiff image & its folder, but use the h.bin from chickHEN R2. Thatway it will run chickHEN R2 in the first 2 attemmps….

    hey i have a 5.02 psp 3000 and i cant upgrade it to 5.03 how can i? ive have tried downloading from the link here and putting the eboot file into PSP/GAME/UPGRADE folder but it still says in the version 5.02

      The folder is PSP\GAME\UPDATE…. NOT UPGRADE!!!!!. it’s a common mistake

        thanks i did it now its 5.03 and i placed the h.bin into the root and also the 4 pics and tiff file into PSP/PHOTO but i cant use the hack it just turns off how do you do it sorry for taking your time…

      i had the same problem. A video on youtube helped me, but to run it in first two attemps donwload the chickHEN mod and use its chickHEN folder. Take the h.bin from chickHEN R2 and place it in the root of the mem stick ( X:\ ) X is the drive letter. the ChickHEN folder is in X:\PICTURE\. Remove any umd discs from your psp. Then on your psp go to settings, system settings, restore default settings, the psp will reboot, go quickly through the settings, then go to system settings again, disable umd auto-start, disable umd cache. Then go to photo, mem stick, wait until the thumbnail has loaded, then open the chickHEN folder & wait. this tehnique works in the first try for me.

        After many many tries with stupid methods i tried yours for once and it worked!!!!1000000 thanks!!!!!!!

        Guide in detail…

        Follow the instructions on where to put the folders and stuff and then restore default settings in your system settings, then after the reboot quickly go through the settings!!!i mean quickly!!!!

        After that although the guide tells you to do something else i just went to photo folder oppened chickhen folder and as soon as the Δ appeared i scrolled down quickly and boom!!!!!!!!!!!!It was a success!!hope this works!

    man i did everything and i click on the chickHEN folder but it just restarts thats all how do i do this please help someone also i watched a vid on youtube and there the guy has 18 pics in his folder i have 5 is this normal?

    Hey I read through every forum, got everything in the right place, and tried about 20 times to no avail. I have a PSP 3001 v. 5.03 using the slim folder, h.bin in the root, and factory default with cache and umd off so that should work right?

    Any tips on getting it to load?

    Ok Here Are My Steps(Works for me like 95% of the time)

    ok I have the Mod tiff and Then Regular tiff in the photo folder and 1 extra photo in the photo folder ok I restore default settings then after reboot I go in to system settings and I turn off umd auto start umd cache usb charge and used auto connect and I set my character set to russian then let it go in to stand by mode and then after the screen go black go in to the photo icon and click the memory stick wait to the egg image loads then click on the chicken folder and go 1 by 1 when the first picture loads go to the next til u reach the first tiff file u should get the green screen on the first or second try

    in the video, it has 13 pics in file, on my PSP it only comes up with 5. does that matter?

    Hi guys,

    by mistake i switched off my PSP and then when i restarted my psp got downgraded to 5.03
    Now am trying to put chickHEN R2 again in my psp but am unable to do so…. i tried many a times and also i tried all the different methods posted here… but am unable to put chickHEN R2 again in my psp… please help me… is there anything to do with memory stick??? i have a 1 GB sony memory card and my PSP version is 3000….

    i also have tried every step from almost every tutorial on this site but to no avail. I have a psp 3001 with 5.03 firmware. after all steps it freezes and shuts down. i did all steps like putting the h on the root and the chickhen folder on picture, restore default settings, after turn off umd cache and auto start, go to photo, mem stick, chickhen, and thats where it freezes. can anyone please help. Ive tried literally hundreds of techniques from here/youtube etc…..lol…..if anyone can help, would be appreciated..thanks!!!!

    2.DOWNLOAD chickHENr2

    4.ConnecT your USB to PC.
    5.Extract CFW GEN-A install Without.exe TO /PSP

    Hey i have a CHA (Completely HackAble) PSP and it’s a slim. It’s updated to firmware 5.51, and i did everything you told me to, i got the EBOOT from the software update 5.03 you gave me from wiwRAR, but when i try to install it from my memory card it tells me that my psp is completely updated and there is no need to update, and it won’t let me through. How do i fix this?

    for those who are having a hard time run ChickHenr2 onTheir Psp’s(ofcourse the Supported one)
    Use This . . You Wont Regret Downloading this . . i’ts more faster than the normal one . .
    it have more chances of getting the green matrix screen . . than the non modify one .. you won’t regret it promise . .

    well… i just did this things…follow this, it might work to you,too

    1) You need at least 14 random pictures and 5 pictures of the ChickHEN( On the folder of ChickHEN )
    2) Open photos
    3) Open the file of ChickHEN and go down by 4 pictures and it shall work( only open when you see the “/\ options”)

    Note: you need a custom firmware 5.03
    It worked on me(always)
