: R2 Released - Homebrew now works

True to his word, Davee has released for Firmware 5.03. This release Davee has fixed the homebrew bug and TIFF images have been blocked while in HEN.

[What it does?]
ChickHEN works as a homebrew enabler for all PSP models (1000, 2000 and 3000) and allows execution of homebrew games and apps on 5.03 Official firmware. It can allow you to play games such as Bugz!, Jellycar or run apps such as pspfiler and PSPTube. Homebrew enhances the experience of a normal PSP without any faulty side-effects.

[What it does not do?]
- Run ISO, CSO or any other form of UMD backup.
- Run PSX Games
- Touch The Flash of your beloved PSP
- Magically allow the use of Custom Firmware (on TA-088v3 or PSP 3000)
- Load plugins

[How do I use it?]
Depending on your PSP Model, you’re going to need a specific tiff image. If you have a Phat (1000) PSP, use the tiff image supplied in the “PHAT” folder and  copy it to ms0:/PSP/PHOTO. Else copy the tiff image in the “SLIM” folder to ms0:/PSP/PHOTO.
After you’ve copied the image to your PSP, you can copy the h.bin supplied to the root of the memorystick (ms0:/). This should be sufficient for PSP to reboot into ChickHEN.

[Can it break my PSP?]
ChickHEN works differently to all previous HEN’s. Instead of flashing to flash0, it resides entirely in RAM to prevent any damage to the system. Sure enough, you can run applications in HEN to flash stuff but I strongly recommend against it. ChickHEN comes with no warrenty, no guanantee and you run this software under your own responsibility.

As stated, HEN comes with no warrenty, and this software should not be used in conjunction with homebrew which can countervent any copyright laws.

So just like before depending on weather you have a PSP-1000 (fat) or PSP-2000 / PSP-3000 (slim) place the h.bin file in your MS root and the chickHEN folder with images in PSP/PHOTO on your memory stick pro duo. Now if you don’t have that folder PSP/PHOTO don’t panic just create it and place the folder in there.

For example if you have a PSP-3000 you would put the Slim ChickHEN folder in PSP/PHOTO so it looks like PSP/PHOTO/ChickHEN with the pretty egg gifs inside. (Sorry but we have to be crystal clear for some people it seems!)

Now making sure you have PSP Firmware 5.03 installed, don’t have PSP firmware 5.03? Get it here -> PSP Firmware 5.03

Ok now in the PSP XMB go to Photo’s / Memory stick and then the chickHEN folder and wait! If it works you’ll see a few colours flash and then your PSP is rebooting itself loading up the chickHEN homebrew environment. Now you can go to Game in the XMB and load some homebrew!!. This time it will work!

      I have the same problem with my PSP 3000 kbp piano black which i bought here in japan.. I cant load the HEN.. I tried it many times but it wont work.. Can SOMEONE OR SOMEBODY help us? Thanks.. Looking forward for some help..

    Its weird that it seems to take more tries everytime I use it, first time when I used it took me 14 tries, now I have tried more than 30 times but still nothing, chickHEN work just once?

    Hey guys,
    I have a psp 3004 and the ChickHen R2 works great on my psp, but when I use to start a homebrew game the game screen appears but then it freeze and my psp shutdown.What to do? Could it be that the homebrew games are not working on my psp?

    When Open it just only open POWER Light nothing more :(

    2. I Update System Software 5.03 ChickHEN R2
    3. Than Run HC Recovery Flasher
    4. I do Install M33 CFW and reset (format) setting as well
    5. All OK I saw Press any button to shutdown….

    At Last I cann’t open My PSP-3006 :( It only only Power Light On :( Nothing More :(

      I had a similar problem when I tried to run a game, I thought I had bricked my PSP, but when I removed the battery and then put it in again, it worked, so try that and if that dosent work then ur screwed, no offense………

      Here is what you do in this situation.
      Step1: Pick up your psp.
      Step2:Throw your psp out the window.
      Step3:Go to your local gamestore.
      Step4:Buy another psp and don’t brick it like you did with your last one.

    I followed the instructions. Updated my psp to 5.03 den run the chickhen, checked the motherboard, run the hellcat, then it went error with the eboot.pbp. I got so many of error message that I decided to turn it off. Then when I tried turning it on, it won’t! PLEASE anybody help me with this! i’m desperate!

    This is a reply to lol. Yes u can still use umd games, I have PSP 3000 with ChicksHEN and i am still able to play my umds. Although some newly released games may ask you to update, but if you do update. You will loose 5.03 ChickHEN R2 : (.

      They did replace mine. I had a god of war limited edition psp and i told them that when i started the game my psp hanged and was not starting after that.
      The official Sony people are fools they believe anything.

    I’m running on a psp 1000, i have the correct things in my folders i belive, when i go to open the photo my psp freezes and shuts down. I know its supposed to do this but after the 400th time im getting concerned i’ve messed it up. i have 5.03 OFW. When i turn the psp back on it flashes a screen shot of what it looked like before it died, just for a bout .5 of a second. Help please :(

      Does it still die even if there is no memory card inside. Does any blue or red screen pop up.

        Take out any umd, make sure the chickhen are the only photos there, if you any more photos it has been known to cause difficulty loading the hen. Try resetting to default settings, when it reboots turn off umd cache and umd autostart to conserve ram and give it another shot.

        mario runs in places at close to full speed, super smash bros runs also, and mari kart. Check if u have dynamic recompiliation and the other long one enabled in the options menu. When i tried turning them off it was soooooooo slow.

    Hi to all who have problem with getting chickHEN r2 to run i know a trick to get it working allmost evry time.
    Okay first keep all the giffs in the folder with the tiff. And then you go to the folder and let the egg giff picture load up in the map and then go into the folder and scroll down as fast as you can and press left to exit the folder. After 1 second press right left rigth left and so on until chicken loads but if it dosent load try again.
    And remember you need to be fast with the comination.

    Doesnt work with my PSP 3004.
    Some seconds after the tiff has loaded, the green light flashes, a fizle sound appears – and PSP seems off. no reboot :(

    i tried 10 times by now, everytime the same.

    using firmware 5.03

    any ideas ?

        In the system menu Restore default settings follow instructions and psp will reboot, turn off umd cache and umd autostart. Worked for me and others on this page.

      emulators that are 3.xx kernel or chickhen compatible belong in the PSP/GAME folder leave the egg hunt.bin alone.

    Hi ppl i have the folder in PHOTOS and the other thing in the root. on the psp i go to photos/memory stick and then chickHEN. the regular egg pic load nicely then the tiff file attemps to load then its freezes and shuts down with a very unhealthy click noise. iv read this is normal n just retry. cpl of tries ago the tiff file showed a messy pic mainly gray and i managed to click on it to view before it crashed. i have a psp 2003 date code 7C (hackable) hope it works soon…. got any info for me? much appriciated :)

      I was having the same problem but I was able to load it the first time every time with this tutorial. Apparently the more free ram you have, the more likely it will work. So remove any umds, go to system menu and choose restore to default setting, when done press x and reboot go through the config just quickly. Again go to system menu and turn off umd cache and umd auto start. No go to photos and chickhen. Wait for the egg to load and boom it should change screen colors and reboot.

    I doubt anyone is reading these comments anymore but ChicHen won’t load for me :S.

    I’m using a PSP 3000 with 5.03 firmware… I used to be able to load ChicHen and now I can’t load it anymore, the tiff image actually loads as a picture every single time I try to load it :S… it happened before but rarely… now it happens almost everytime whenever it doesn’t freeze and restart.

      Go to system setting restore to default settings, reboot, go to system menu turn off umd cache and umd auto start, go to photos, chickhen and let the egg load, worked for me whenever the tiff would be visible.
