ChickHEN release 2 (bugfix) has been released!

True to his word, Davee has released ChickHEN R2 for Firmware 5.03. This release Davee has fixed the homebrew bug and TIFF images have been blocked while in HEN.

[What it does?]
ChickHEN works as a homebrew enabler for all PSP models (1000, 2000 and 3000) and allows execution of homebrew games and apps on 5.03 Official firmware. It can allow you to play games such as Bugz!, Jellycar or run apps such as pspfiler and PSPTube. Homebrew enhances the experience of a normal PSP without any faulty side-effects.

[What it does not do?]
- Run ISO, CSO or any other form of UMD backup.
- Run PSX Games
- Touch The Flash of your beloved PSP
- Magically allow the use of Custom Firmware (on TA-088v3 or PSP 3000)
- Load plugins

[How do I use it?]
Depending on your PSP Model, you’re going to need a specific tiff image. If you have a Phat (1000) PSP, use the tiff image supplied in the “PHAT” folder and copy it to ms0:/PSP/PHOTO. Else copy the tiff image in the “SLIM” folder to ms0:/PSP/PHOTO.
After you’ve copied the image to your PSP, you can copy the h.bin supplied to the root of the memorystick (ms0:/). This should be sufficient for PSP to reboot into ChickHEN.

[Can it break my PSP?]
ChickHEN works differently to all previous HEN’s. Instead of flashing to flash0, it resides entirely in RAM to prevent any damage to the system. Sure enough, you can run applications in HEN to flash stuff but I strongly recommend against it. ChickHEN comes with no warrenty, no guanantee and you run this software under your own responsibility.

As stated, HEN comes with no warrenty, and this software should not be used in conjunction with homebrew which can countervent any copyright laws.

So just like before depending on weather you have a PSP-1000 (fat) or PSP-2000 / PSP-3000 (slim) place the h.bin file in your MS root and the chickHEN folder with images in PSP/PHOTO on your memory stick pro duo. Now if you don’t have that folder PSP/PHOTO don’t panic just create it and place the folder in there.

For example if you have a PSP-3000 you would put the Slim ChickHEN folder in PSP/PHOTO so it looks like PSP/PHOTO/ChickHEN with the pretty egg gifs inside. (Sorry but we have to be crystal clear for some people it seems!)

Now making sure you have PSP Firmware 5.03 installed, don’t have PSP firmware 5.03? Get it here -> PSP Firmware 5.03

Ok now in the PSP XMB go to Photo’s / Memory stick and then the chickHEN folder and wait! If it works you’ll see a few colours flash and then your PSP is rebooting itself loading up the chickHEN homebrew environment. Now you can go to Game in the XMB and load some homebrew!!. This time it will work!

I Just can’t get this to load at all.

And all it does is shut my system down,gutted.
Anybody know of a solid trick that might work?

Take my advice! IT WILL FAIL A LOT! It took me about 10 tries or so for it to work, and yes, it will shut off your PSP with a pop, so, that is normal. Eventually they might come out with a more fail- proof version, but until then, be happy and try, try again! Again, take my advice I posted up like 6 posts up or so. I tested it on two PSP 3004′s as of today, and it works (well, after failing a ton of times as expected). So exercise some patience and just follow my advice to happiness

Yes, you can do anything you want after it’s loaded practically, but take note: if your PSP shuts off, you’ll have to reset everything.

Wow, I have been following these threads quietly for a few weeks now, and have never seen so many whiney ass bitches. First and foremost I am not gonna kiss ass in hopes of getting any iso/cso or cfw support, and secondly I’m not gonna complain about the chickHEN R2 cause it works, I’m running it on my psp 3001, it took me a while to figure it out but I got it to work fine and can run a few emulators and bring back nostalgic games. If you can’t get it to work READ and re READ all the posts, everyone has their own fix. For all you retards the MS root is your damn Memory Stick, the root is the fucking folder that you use to access the goddamn memroy stick when your psp is connected to your computer. Like my C:\ drive is my root folder for my fucking hard drive. So whatever drive it shows up on your pc that would be the damn root. If you dont understand that then you are seriously stupid and should stop fucking with your psp! You bunch of whiney ass bitches! Thank you , and continue crying pussies.

hey it’s so simple to use chickenHen,put chickenhen folder to PSP/PHOTO/chickhen.(don’t put any other photo),put h.bin to root folder..go to XMB then just click on folder chickenhen and wait..shut down the psp first after instaling chickhen.it works on my psp 3000 and 2001 piano black

ATTENTION: You must delete the “eggsploit” if your PSP has been completely shut off or restarted, otherwise, your attempts will be in vain! The hack won’t run over the old eggsploit so you must delete it through USB mode.

You guys having problem with this HEN… just follow the instruction and one more thing that can make you happy.. DON’T PUT ANY “PICTURES” or “FOLDER” inside the “PHOTO” folder. Just the chickHEN folder should be there and IT WILL WORK ALWAYS “just here to help”

MY WAY TO chickHEN:

1. Install 5.03 OFW on your PSP
2. Put the “h.bin” on the ROOT of your Memory Stick and the “chickHEN” folder inside your “PHOTO” folder
3. Navigate your way using your psp going to the “chickHEN folder” and youll see the GIFs picture of egg and WAIT for a sec. and it will automatically restart your PSP

I got ‘game crash exploit’…basically just run the game then wait for 10-15 seconds then it shutsdown the psp. then turn it on again, look at the system info its 5.03 again(the crash make the chickhen removed and turning it back to 5.03, if anyone wants it just email me…or maybe i’ll upload an video on youtube(maybe next week)…

Its becoming clockwork for me. I load that bad boy up, and it turns off. Then i load it again and it restarts it in HEN. I loveit. Though I cant quite get the 64 emulator to work (Just shuts my psp off) But other then that I love playing some Super mario when im on the go or just anytime im bored. This things the bomb.

One more queation, in the SLIM folder are loads of pictures with eggs on them and the TIFF image, do I need to put the egg pictures in my PHOTO folder aswell or only the TIFF image?

i run pspIDENT homebrew it says TA-088.v3,and then
i did second test using PANDORA TOOLKIT V2….and it says TA-088.V1

masters,what should i do now? which one of those homebrews we can trust?

MY WAY TO chickHEN Revise 2:

1. Install 5.03 OFW on your PSP

ok, i just wanna make sure ive done everything correctly, so what i did was put the bin file in the root and i put the chickHEN folder from SLIM to the photo folder (im using psp 3004 v5.03) and it still hasnt worked ive tried 13 times, should i keep trying??

YES thats correct. It should work from the first time you try (for me it is….) okay i want you to try this way.
*MAKE SURE THERE “NO” picture inside your memory stick except for the eggs in the chickHEN folder.
*Now RESTORE DEFAULT SETTING by going to Settings>System Settings.
======SET your language, time zone=======
*Turn OFF the UMD AUTO-START
*TURN OFF YOUR PSP 1..2…3 TURN YOUR PSP ON
*Navigate your way to PHOTO then Memory Stick then ChickHEN and look at the eggs. and IT SHOULD restart your psp. Reply to me what happens.

if i open ChickHEN folder in psp, is not restart, but turn off…
and i turn on again my psp, i check again in System Setting, it’s still in 5.03 not change to 5.03 ChickHEN….

hei everyone after doing experiments I found the main problem why some of us can’t run chickHen..
if your mms pro duo with serial AUB1000…you can’t use it to run chickHen.
but if the serial is BBBE1000… yes you can use it to run chickHen(you can check the serial at the back of the mms pro duo), and don’t put any photo in PHOTO folder other than chickHen.it doesn’t matter the size of the mms pro duo.

sleep mode is activated by flicking the power switch up to off for just 1 sec. If u hold it you will complete turn off the system and unload the HEN.

Just a message to all of you who are having problems.

When I first downloaded and installed chickHEN and then tried to run it, ofcourse it didnt work, so then I tried revising all the methods and tried and tried again, but still nothing, so I was just about to give up when I thought oh fine il try one more time and I did, then my PSP restarted and all went as it was supposed to go, at first I thought this is some bullshit and it problably wont work, so I went to system information and it showed 5.03 chickHEN R2…………….

So when you are sure that you have done everything correctly and it still wont work, then dont lose patience and dont lose hope coz it will work.

I have another question, can the chickHEN run all types of homebrews and if it cant run all kinds then how do I know what are the correct homebrews for chickHEN, for example I tried to run Kurok(its a really good 3D shooter homebrew, put it in youtube if you want) and when I ran it everyting seemed fine and it started as any other game, but after everything was just black and I tried turning off PSP and removing memory stick but it was still black, eventually I removed my battery and it worked again but I still cant play Kurok.

All homebrews that came out before this were not made to run on ChickHEN so many might not be fully playable using ChickHEN, but the newer homebrews that are coming out now have in mind that people will be using ChickHEN to run homebrew so now they are making the homebrew around it and making it compatible with ChickHEN as well as the custom firmwares.

So just keep testing to see which homebrews work and don’t work for now until they update them with ChickHEN support.
