ChickHEN release 2 (bugfix) has been released!

Quick to fix yesterdays semi-disastrous chickHEN release, maibrithahn has released an unofficial ChickHEN Homebrew Enabler fixed h.bin. We have tested this and can report we have working homebrew on our PSP-3000 unit. So just like before depending on weather you have a PSP-1000 (fat) or PSP-2000 / PSP-3000 (slim) place the h.bin file in your MS root and the chickHEN folder with images in PSP/PHOTO on your memory stick pro duo. Now if you don’t have that folder PSP/PHOTO don’t panic just create it and place the folder in there.

For example if you have a PSP-3000 you would put the Slim ChickHEN folder in PSP/PHOTO so it looks like PSP/PHOTO/ChickHEN with the pretty egg gifs inside. (Sorry but we have to be crystal clear for some people it seems!)

Now making sure you have PSP Firmware 5.03 installed, don’t have PSP firmware 5.03? Get it here -> PSP Firmware 5.03

Ok now in the PSP XMB go to Photo’s  / Memory stick and then the chickHEN folder and wait! If it works you’ll see a few colours flash and then your PSP is rebooting itself loading up the chickHEN homebrew environment. Now you can go to Game in the XMB and load some homebrew!!. This time it will work!

    dang, i dont have an UNHACKED psp to try this on….. just my sons 1001 thats got M33-4 on it, and my 2000 with M-33-6 ;-)

    but i have piles of friends with 2000′s and 3000′s….. ;-)

    SO DOES THIS WORK???? ;-)

      it would seem sony has got downgrading all patched up… hasnt been firmware downgrader for a while….pandora was a hardware expliot, nothing sony could to to fix it, cept realese TA 88v3 & 3000

    and also.. how do you install the psp 3000 firmware 5.03 official. i have a 5.01 firmware but i dont konw where to put this EBOOT.PBP on my psp to load it.

    The same thing happen the homebrew stay in the psp logo and then is turn off and return to ofw

    FYI guys this was released approx 4 hours ago on another forum. I D/L it and tested and and got it working fine. Still have to do the picture two or three times to get it into HEN mode.. but ive been playing SNES, Amiga emus and a DDR homebrew i found for the last few hours.

    i have a psp 1001 ofw 5.03 and I put the phat folder in psp Photo and the bin in the ms root, but my psp freezes and shuts off. i even tried using the slim pictures but they do not work. Any suggestions?

    Where can I get the homebrew emulators to try out? It seems the GBA (Mastergameboy) emulator freezes my PSP when it goes to the Playstation logo.

      I just thought I’d try to share this.
      I’ve been having trouble getting the HEN to load aswell, freezes psp then switches off.
      Tried about 20 times no go.
      Had a look at Davee’s video, and thought I’d do exactly what he does.
      First go to System Settings, then go check your FW version.
      After that, go to your pictures, to the chickHEN folder, and scroll down to last picture.
      6/6 times it rebooted into hen.
      I don’t know if that works everytime though, so far for me, just thought you guys that’s having troubles with the PSP3k could give it a go.

    I’m still at firmware 5.02. Is there coming some kind of HEN/exploit/hack to that firmware version or should I update to 5.03 without regret?

    Am I doing something wrong? I enable HEN and try an SNES emulator, and all I get is a freezing of the Playstation logo. I am confused, wasn’t the fix to get homebrew emulators to work?

    If someone can help me out, it’ll be more appreciated.

    I bricked my PSP cuz I installed a Custom Firmware on my PSP 2004 TA 088V3.

    I hope Sony doesn’t update it when I use garantie!

    one problem I have with this fix is I can not go back to normal mode even after power it off. If you got the same problem, simply remove the battery and put it back, restart the psp and it will go back to normal. And one more problem is that I couldn’t connect the Internet when I try some homebrew app like the PSPtube.

    One more thing, try to put more photo if you can’t get it work. I got like 10 pictures before the tiff file. and also scroll down slowly. It actually fail when I scrolls down too fast.

    And the next grand update after that would be to play iso/cso games on our PSP 3000 with 5.50 firmware.

    I am having a problem loading the HEN. I did everything from the video and whenever I go to the chickHEN in my psp; my psp will freeze then a poping noise from the speakers and it will turn off. I have a psp 3001 with 5.03 OFW. Please Help!!!!!

      I have exactly the same problem and I’ve done EVERYTHING right. The failure version earlied actually enabled the chickHen ONCE but this “working” version has succeeded 0 times (tried like ~10). It just jamms, and with *click* sound, shuts down my PSP. I have PSP 3000 (bought it in/from Finland), firm 5.03.

    Getting the Hen to work is working first time every time for me. Only thing I’m having a problem with is using the Hombrew itself. I’ve tried the N64 and GBA emulators but each time when I load them they freeze on PSP screen (when turns to white) and shuts off. I tried loading the homebrew first then doing the Hen but still freezes. Real close though =D.

    DUDE this is Broken it just freezes and cuts off whats the damn problem with this thing?
    Ive done this at least 40 times even tried adding extra pictures and it doesn’t work this is BS!

    I’ve gotten the HEN to load no problem, but emulators still freeze on the PSP logo and just reboot. Still not working for homebrew it seems

    Won’t load for me. Using a 2000 and OFW5.03 (had to update from 5.02), but it freezes when it tries to load the thumbnail. After 10 or so seconds, it shuts down. I tried it a dozen or so times, by the way.

      No Ive completely deleted the full HEN, downloaded the latest file and it still does the same thing this is stupid it obviously does not work for 3001s because everyone that has one has said it doesn’t work for them..

    mmmkay, all i get on download is a document called HEN.rar…..which my mac cant open. The previouse tiff exploit worked fine though.

      .rar = winrar archive, a type of lossless compression, similar to .zip and whatnot.

    Another thing I noticed. Like I said the Hen loads for me after I drop the h.bin into the root and Ive been trying to test the emulators; however If i go back to try to go back to the hen firmware the Hen does not load and turns off. I tinkered with it for awhile and deleting the h.bin from my stick and putting in the same one saved on my computer. Once disconnected it works fine. Why is this? Oh, and whats this egghunt.bin thats loaded do? I know its for something but only gets created after going into hen firmware.

    delete the pic’s in pic’s file….when i open the hen file i don’t scrol it just start by itself

    Does the slim tiff still have to be at the bottom of the photos? I cant get it to the bottom no matter how i arrange them. The date on the tiff is 1/1/02…? I can only use a card reader to transfer them to psp too

      Never wored for me. I extracted the content into the PSP/Game/ directory. Once I load it, a playstation logo appears and freezes, then reboots to original 5.03 FW.

    I have the newest chickHEN loaded, but can’t get anything to run. I have tried:

    Homer’s RIN
    RIN GB/GBC Emulator
    PSPGenesis
    uo_Snes9x for PSP 0.02y24

    I get the following with all of them:

    “The game could not be started.
    (80120005)”
