Yoshihiro's Game Decrypter tutorial / guide by Rith.

Ok so we can now play 5.55 and 6.00 Firmware UMD games on Custom Firmware, which is just awesome. However judging by all the comments, a lot of you are a bit lost when it comes to running UMDGEN 4 and extracting the eboot etc.

Luckily for you guys, long time forum resident Rith has posted a great tutorial on Yoshihiro’s PSP Games decrypter. How to extract the UMD eboot, patch the eboot. Then rebuild the ISO and play your UMD game backup you brought off your memory card!

Remember you can only patch games you legally own. A UMD copies you wish to run from your Memory Stick Pro Duo for example. This is NOT for running illegally downloaded ISO / CSO files. PSP Slim Hacks owns all their ISO games in UMD format and so should you! Remember support the PSP and BUY all your games, otherwise we can forget about having great new titles to play.

Forum expert UltimaKillz has posted, without a doubt the best PSP tutorial on how to install custom firmware on any PSP. This tutorial is very well written. It provides all the links and info needed. Information like flashing Custom Firmware with a Pandora battery, using chickHEN R2, and  CFWEnabler. Its all there, covering PSP-1000’s to PSP-2000’s and the last release the PSP-3000. Which firmwares are hackable and which aren’t. Types of motherboards which can be flashed and others that need ChickHEN.

With a great layout and step by step instructions this is perfect for anyone new to the PSP Custom Firmware scene and would like to delve into the world of homebrew games and applications via CFW.

CFWEnabler 3.30 menu screen.

This is a quick tutorial / guide to running Custom Firmware Enabler 3.30+ on your PSP-3000. We have two choices for CFW on our PSP-2000 TA-088v3+ models and PSP-3000’s. Either 5.03 GEN-A or this custom firmware. We’re now swaying towards Xenogears and becus25’s CFWEnabler as the updates are rolling out quicker, it has less bugs and a pretty menu system for enabling the various options.

You need official Firmware 5.03 installed to begin (ChickHEN needs this fw version)

Install ChickHEN R2 and get that running, use our tutorial and guide located here:  Guide to running ChickHEN R2 on your PSP-3000 / PSP-2000 TA88v3+

Now download Custom Firmware Enabler 3.30 and install this to your PSP Memory card. put the file CWEnabler folder in PSP/GAME

With ChickHEN R2 loaded in your PSP XMB go to GAME, Memory Stick and then load CFWEnabler

You’ll boot up into a CFWEnabler screen, Select install and your PSP will reboot.

After which your PSP will reboot into 5.00 M33-6 CFW! Easy as pie!!

In order to enter the setting and configuration menu (Recovery menu) Simply run CFWEnabler from your XMB again and this time hold the R shoulder button. You’ll boot up into the menu screen (top)

MAC address spoof turned on. XMB effect only

The above screen demonstrates the MAC adress Spoof, so its not visible in the XMB. Good for screenshots like this. We haven’t gone into the Pops flashing as CFWEnabler 3.2+ supports native PSX/PS1 emulation and its pretty good.

Since ChickHEN is out PSP-2000 owners with a TA88v2 or less or a TA90v1 motherboard now have the option to now install Custom Firmware without the need of a Pandora battery.We have put together a Easy installer that contains everything you’ll need. Hellcats Recovery flasher, ChickHEN, PSP firmware update 5.00.

Warning make sure you only try this on a PSP that will accept PSP Custom Firmware flashing (Custom IPL) otherwise you will brick your PSP!!! PSP-3000’s will not take CFW. Check your PSP will take CFW here. Or run ChickHEN first, then when ChickHEN is loaded run PSPident from the Game XMB menu. (PSPIdent with install with this easy installer)

Steps to install CFW on a PSP Slim without a Pandora battery.

1. Check and triple check you have a hackable PSP that will accept
custom firmware flashing without resulting in a BRICKED PSP. Make sure you have a PSP with a TA88v2 or below only + or TAv90v1. If your PSP has a TA88v3 or above or is a PSP-3000 DO NOT proceed!!! You will brick your PSP.

Run the installer and point it to your Memory stick Pro Duo root.

2. If you don’t have don’t have PSP firmware 5.03. Get that here: PSP Firmware 5.03 Make a folder called UPDATE in your PSP/GAME folder and place the eboot in there on your memory stick pro duo.

3. Now lets run ChickHEN to have a homebrew enabled environment. In your PSP go to photo then click the ChickHEN photo and wait. If the PSP jams, please retry. If it flashes colours and reboots you have loaded ChicKHEN. Check your system info to be sure it say’s 5.03 ChickHEN R2. If you need help getting ChickHEN to run please visit this post.

4. Now with your PSP rebooted in ChickHEN go to your PSP XMB game menu and run Hellcats Recovery and install 5.00 M33!!! Your PSP will reboot, follow the instuctions to install PSP Custom Firmware 5.00 M33. After your done you can update to 5.00 M33-6

Finally we have Homebrew on the PSP-3000 or TA88v3 thanks to Davee and Team Typhoon. Here we bring you a small ChickHEN tutorial / guide on how to best set up ChickHEN in order to get it running and fast. Plus some recommend Homebrew Games and Emulators to get you started!

Here’s a quick run down of what we’re doing to need to get ChickHEN:

• A PSP-3000 or PSP-2000 with firmware 5.03 (This is imperative, you won’t get ChickHEN to ever load with out it!)
• The lastest ChickHEN release.
• And a lot of patience

Firstly make sure your PSP-3000 or TA88v3 PSP-2000 has PSP Firmware 5.03 installed. Check in your PSP XMB go to Settings/ System Settings / System infomation. If you don’t have PSP 5.03 installed download it here. Create a folder called UPDATE in PSP/GAME on your memory stick and place the eboot from the archive into the folder. Run the 5.03 Firmware update from GAME / Memory stick and you will have 5.03. The firmware required to run ChickHEN.

Now download the ChickHEN R2 release from here. Open the CHickHEN R2 archive and place the folder inside Slim with gif images into your PSP memory stick location like so PSP/PHOTO (later it will be PSP/PHOTO/ChickHEN). Now place the h.bin into the root of your memory stick pro duo. Where the folders PSP, MUSIC etc are located.

Ok next step place the memory stick into the PSP. We have found this step helps ChickHEN boot with less attempts, go your PSP XMB, to settings and Restore Default Settings. Your PSP will reset, now go back into settings and turn off UMD Auto-Start and UMD Cache. We found ChickHEN loads in 2-3 goes after doing this.

Now go into Photo / Memory Stick and ChickHEN. And wait, you will see five egg giff images, these will start to load thumbnails. Your PSP may freeze and reset. Just keep retrying and  ChickHEN R2 will load up….But if you see flashing colors, your PSP will reboot into ChickHEN your homebrew ready!

With ChickHEN R2 loaded now starts the fun part. (P.S You can put your PSP into standby now so you don’t have to go through the whole process again)

Recommended homebrew games and emulators for ChickHEN. As tested by us:

PSP-3000 Running Metal Slug GBA

PSP Emulators like UO gPSP Kai 3.3 and Capcom Play System 1 Emulator which gives you great classic games like Street Fighter II. And homebrew games like REminiscence (Flashback) and Tyrian Open.

• Q: I can’t get ChickHEN to boot, It always freezes.
• A: Keep trying, make sure your PSP has firmware 5.03

• Q: How to I keep ChickHEN loaded?
• A: Don’t shut down your PSP, use standby to keep ChickHEN loaded.
