Custom Firmware 5.55 LDX.

Another rumor, Team LDX has sprung up from nowhere claiming to be working on a Custom Firmware based on firmware 5.55. Called Custom Firmware 5.55 LDX-M. Sounds familiar doesn’t it…. With so many fakers out there now its hard to take any of this seriously till we see real release from someone. Seems like another fake ?

What they claim is coming in this new firmware:

5.55 ISO and CSO games can be played
LDX VSH menu
+ LDX recovery menu
+ Plugins
All of the 5.55 Firmware features
PSX games

They claim to have a release in one week. Lets wait and see…

I know this isn’t exactly the newest of PSP news, but a lot of people haven’t seen this and after a few emails asking we at least post this for psp scene. I’ve decided to give Team MACK some “air time”. The above is Team MACK’s response defending some of the questions and criticisms that were raised from their previous videos and people claiming its all just a big fake.

What we have learnt is Canadian brothers Matt and Jack are the guys behind Team Mack. They also claim that once they have a working beta they will be looking for beta testers. Naturally we will put our hands up and be glad to test any 6.00 Custom Firmware beta guys. And report out findings, so Team Mack if your reading this get in touch!

Points the video raises in defence against claims CFW 6.00 MAC-B is fake.

They are using a Custom Theme, that is why it says Network update instead of 6.00’s System Update.

6.00 MAC-B can access PSN, they claim they will post a video of this soon.

They can’t get games that require firmware 5.55 or 6.00 to run yet. That’s why its not demonstrated in the previous videos.

Why no release yet. Team MAC claim they don’t want to release any betas that could brick PSP’s….(Bah most people have DCv8 and a Pandora handy to recover from bricks nowadays)

So what are you thought’s? Still think its all fake? I’m going to stand on the sideline and wait for a release (If it ever comes)

Take this one with a large pinch of salt, its been flying around the PSP scene like wildfire today. I’ve been wondering if I should even post this or not, but I’ll let you decide after watching the above video. It’s the latest apparent Custom Firmware 6.00 MAC-B video, “Mack” basiclly trying to prove its not fake. And boy doesn’t Mack try hard to convince us all its not fake.

I personally think, unless this guy is working with or along side PSPGen decrying firmware 6.00 its a fake. But I could be wrong. Its a nicely done fake video to get a bit of the old Youtube attention by some film student.. But looking at the video, it certainly raises a few questions.

What do you think? Fake or Legit. That’s the million dollar question.

PSP Firmware 6.00

Is Firmware 6.00 due this week? That’s the question, and by the looks of it yes it will be out according to a comment made by Allison Walter of Nippon Ichi Software America. The below comment was made when replying to fan’s comment of the Holy Invasion Of Privacy Badman demo.

Hi Killzone_Kid! This is what has been decided for the Badman demo: we’re going to re-release it next Thursday, 10 Sept, by which time Firmware 6.0 should have been released. Sorry for the wait!

More PSP2 / PSP-4000 Rumours...

Here’s some fresh new PSP2 / PSP-4000 rumors via Pocket Gamer. They also seem to have an insider source working on the new PSP hardware that claims the PSP2 or PSP-4000 (whatever Sony want to call it) will have a sliding touchscreen and dual analogue sticks… Nice, like most PSP gamers dual sticks has been on my wish list.

Here’s the rumor from Chris James @ Pocket Gamer:

There’s also been a lot of talk about how Sony might react to the competition on offer from the phenomenal success of Apple’s iPhone and iPod touch.

Unsurprisingly the console manufacturer has been comparatively mute in both cases, denying the existence of a PSP sequel and any threat from Apple. However, having spoken to an insider source – who’s not Dave Perry, but is a developer working on the new hardware – we can reveal that the new handheld will arrive before Christmas and will be far more similar to the iPhone than the current device.

Like Apple’s newcomer, the PSP 2 will be a compact device with a large touchscreen. However, where Sony’s machine has the edge is when the touchscreen is slid open as it reveals familiar buttons, D-pads and – praise the Lord of Handhelds – dual analogue controls.

This new format should allow for both existing hardcore console titles as well as simpler touchscreen games along the lines of those currently available in the App Store. And like the App Store, (and in the absence of UMD), the games will all be available for digital download via the PlayStation Store.

Although this hasn’t been confirmed, our speculation is that Sony’s initial plans for a small upgrade to a PSP 4000 model have since been accelerated by the success of the iPhone and arrival of Nintendo DSi.

As yet those are all the details we have, but we understand the full specs and pricing will be unveiled at E3 in June.

Hmmm very interesting and of course to be taken with a pinch of salt. I guess time will tell come E3 time in June. Not too far away…..

Artist's Impression of the PSP 3G?

There have been further PSP2 / PSP-4000 rumors out there on the web lately, which now seem to point towards a 3G enabled PSP, surprisingly called a PSP 3G. Again this is a apparent insider source and not very creditable. However they claim:

The new PSP model will be called PSP 3G. Unlike previous PSP models it will have a touch screen as well as an UMTS support, Bluetooth and a microphone. That means you will be able to use it easily as a normal mobile phone. With its ultra compact size and design it will be not much bigger than an iPhone but it will offer you the highest gaming comfort. There won’t be any UMD-drive any more but instead a keyboard with a slide mechanism though. But of course, you will be able to download all the games from the PSN Store with the PSP 3G soon. Cooperating with Sony Ericsson, we will be able to deliver the PSP 3G in the USA and Japan by the end of April 2009.

Sound to good to be true, I’m sure all the rumblings and talk of a next model PSP aren’t all for nothing. Look what happened when we heard about the PSP-3000. It was the same, a new model coming with a built in Mircophone and a better screen..That did come due. I guess come April we will see if there is a new PSP 3G /PSP2 / PSP-4000 or whatever it will be called.

Artists impression of the PSP-4000?

VG247 claim to have a highly trusted source with info on new PSP-4000 revision. That the new PSP-4000 will have a sliding screen a complete aesthetic overhaul. Using the existing PSP technology so it won’t be a PSP2….

Much is now known by some parties of the console, which will be announced at either GDC or E3 this year, but cards are currently being clutched very tightly to chests. The revamp does have a sliding front-screen, and we’re assured the design being currently touted isn’t a million miles away from this now-infamous image.

Just a misinterpretation, goodbye to UMD’s?

News going around that Sony is already working on a PSP-4000 and PSP2 have been quickly denied by John Koller of SCE.

He explained that it was a misinterpretation, and says that Sony is urging developers to move away from the UMD platform and onto digital distribution of games through the PlayStation Store. “No plans for a PSP2 are underway.”

This should clear up any thoughts you may have had of the PSP2/PSP-4000 rumours.

PSP-4000 and PSP2 coming?

Not much in the way of PSP news. But here’s something for the old rumor mill thanks to Eurogamer.

Sony plans to refresh the PlayStation Portable product line with a PSP-4000 model in late 2009 and launch a true successor – a PSP2, if you like – later.

Publishing sources, speaking to Eurogamer, were unable to provide any further detail on next year’s update, which will presumably follow this year’s PSP-3000 in taking an iterative approach. The PSP-3000 launched this October and followed a 2000-series model, the first Slim & Lite, in September 2007.

Even fewer details were available on the PSP successor, but we’re told that developers are already working on games.

Sony has not ruled out either scenario, despite SCEE president David Reeves’ assertion in MCV last week that “there are currently no plans for a PSP2″. “I go to Tokyo quite a lot and no one has referred to it – I think they have their hands full at the moment,” he said, non-committally.

Sony UK told Eurogamer today that it would not comment on rumour and speculation.

PSP Firmware 5.00?

French team PSPGen allegedly have some info on PSP firmware 5.00, we’ll call this a rumor for now. But apparently PSP firmware 5.0 will bring direct PSN access and a new RSS reader capable of reading of text articles. (the current version is limited to viewing audio, videos and images)

So where is this info coming from? Well PSPGen’s team have a development version of the PSP firmware used for testing tool units. So its not public firmware but a possible future 5.00 firmware.

Thought you saw the last of these?

Sony’s not giving up on the dreaded UMD movie.. They plan to release 5-7 new movies each quarter, all costing $9.99 to $14.99. They also say the new UMD movies should the target audience, so no romantic crap of any sort.

PSP-3000 is real, FCC listing proves this

Looks like the PSP-3000 rumors are indeed true as a FCC listing confirms that Sony is working on the new PSP-3000 model. This doesn’t however confirm the PSP-3000 spy photos released earlier are true or not. But it does confirm that Sony do have the new model in the works.

So when will Sony break the silience and publicly confirm the unit as well as let us know the new specs? We can only hope that Sony will finally add some decent battery life to the new unit as well as maybe 802/g wifi, built-in mic + video cam and a internal flash drive? Is that that too much to ask for?
