God Eater Demo Released. Requires Firmware 6.20.

Namco-Bandai have released a demo for God Eater, their new up and coming action-RPG which is due February 2010. This demo is in Japanese and if you were silly enough to update to 6.20 and have nothing to play, then your in luck. As in order to play this demo you will need to have firmware 6.20 installed on your PSP system.

The game it self looks interesting. I find it quite funny, the fact that some of the playable characters carry weapons larger than themselves!! Haha I don’t know why the Japanese love that sort of stuff….Gun-swords weighting 1000 pounds, two times larger than their whole body…oh well its still a decent looking game anyway.

Ok so apparently, PSP Firmware 6.20 is on the way. Tomorrow infact. It will include a new comic book reader that will go with the launch of new comic book service available over PSN. So where is this info coming from? From the horse’s mouth at the Tokyo game show, claims this blog

The new comics over PSN will support all PSP’s and firmware 6.20 will add a new column to the PSP XMB for this. This new feature is coming to Japan first, with North America and Europe to follow at a later stage. (not confirmed yet)

So how much?? The digital comics will carry a standard price tage of ¥420 or $5 USD each. If you prefer only reading the chapters they will cost ¥50-¥150 each. Which is around $1-2 USD.

I wonder if Sony also patched the user save game exploit that FreePlay used on his PSP Go “Hello World” hack

Sony detailed its PSP comic service back at the Tokyo Game Show. Today, it provided specific release and pricing information.

Downloadable comics will join the PlayStation Store library on December 10 under a new “Comics” category. Content will be available at around ¥420 for a full book and between ¥50 and ¥150 for individual chapters. Unlike other PS Store content, the comics are purchased rather than rented.

All varieties of the PSP, from the original PSP-1000 to the just released PSPgo, will be able to access the content.

Users will need to have their firmware updated to System 6.20 (available on November 19). This firmware update will add a new “Extra” column to the PSP’s XMB (Cross Media Bar) interface. You’ll be able to click on an icon under this column to download the required Comic Reader.

Content is being provided by such publishers as Ascii Mediaworks, Enterbrain, Kadokawa Shoten, Kodansha, Shueisha, Shogakkan, Square Enix (yes, they publish comics too), Softbank Creative, Bandai Visual, Bunkasha, Futabasha, Fujimi Shobo, and Hakusensha.

This software trick moves the camera frame to the right by one pixel ever second frame. As shown here below, the result is a image that looks like it has AA x 2 on. Clever, I hope this is applied to future PSP titles.

Custom Firmware 5.50 GEN-B can’t access the Playstation network and has been blocked. I was just in it? And without logging in it shows up fine, but when you sign in you now require firmware 6.10 to download anything. Sony are getting smarter it seems, another counter Custom Firmware Measure for us all. The way I see it, they are shooting themselves in the foot. They will loose PSN sales because of this. Hell I brought a few PSX games using PSN via 5.50 GEN-A as I’m sure many brought FFVII.

Rockstar have released their first trailer for Grand Theft Auto Chinatown Wars, which is basically a pepped up port of the DS version. With unscaled improved graphics and new mission content. What some PSP users aren’t happy about is the fact its not like the other two GTA games on the PSP. (GTA: Liberty City stories was the reason I got my PSP-1000 back in the day)

This one is completely different, look down isomeric view Vs your 3rd person view. Personally I don’t mind as its a change and as long as it plays well. I’m cool with that. And judging from this video it looks fast and fluid. With the cut scene user interactions like the DS had intact.

Not too long to wait for this one, due 20th of October in both UMD and PSN digital download format.

I’ve defiantly got this game on my, games to buy list. What about you?

PC PSP Emulator: JPCSP v0.3 Revision 1191

Another jump in builds for JPCSP, the PC java based PSP emulator. So more tweaks and adjustments have been applied to further improve the emulators speed. If you want to try running a few of your PSP games on your PC then this is really the only application to use.

Undead Knights - Works on CFW 5.50 GEN.

Tecmo have today released a playable Japanese demo of their game: Undead Knights. This demo also works on Custom Firmware 5.50 GEN A-B2 with the version.txt option on. So no need for Firmware 5.51 or 6.00. So just like the Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker Demo.

The demo is in Japanese, but its pretty straight forward to get use to the controls etc, in this invasion action style game. You play the anti-hero, battling enemies and building yourself the meanest and most profane army unit you can image. All this on your journey of vengeance, of which is to defeat the King. Give it a whirl -- the download link is below.

At theToyko Game Show 2009 (TGS09), IGN were lucky enough to score an exclusive co-op Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker Demo release. Now while this demo is in Japanese, it also requires Firmware 5.51 or 6.00 to run.

I downloaded it, ran it on my PSP expecting to to see error message. “The game could not be started (80010013). However to my surprise its working on Custom Firmware 5.50 GEN-B2. So no need to flash Official Firmware 5.51 or Firmware 6.00 !! And added bonus. The demo looks good, although my Japan isn’t too hot so I don’t understand a thing…

Dante's Inferno - PSP Cover

The latest Dante’s Inferno screenshots have been released via IGN.  While the games not out till next year, its another PSP release that’s shaping up to be a huge game for the psp. And with graphics similar to that of God of War on the PSP, it could be the one of the biggest releases for Q1 2010. That is of course, if the gameplay matches up with the look and feel of the game screenshots released so far.

In Dante’s Inferno the player assumes the role of Dante. On his epic descent through the nice circles of hell. Which and limbo, lust, gluttony, greed, anger, heresy, violence, fraud and treachery.

A fresh new batch of Gran Turismo gameplay videos are up and online for your enjoyment, thanks to Gametrailers.com & Eurogamer. And I must say the game is looking very decent! But this is one game we won’t be enjoying on CFW due to its firmware 6.00 requirement.  But nevertheless to enjoy this beauty, we’ll just have to upgrade to Firmware 6.00. Then downgrade via Despertar del Cementerio v8 with a Pandora to get ourselves back to homebrew goodness

Just check out the graphics, hard to think its a PSP rendering that? Gran Turismo PSP is due 1st October 09.

Gran Turismo PSP will require Firmware 6.00.

Bad news for PSP Custom Firmware owners I’m afraid, as TheSixthAxis has reported that the Gran Turismo UMD / Download requires firmware 6.00. And of course Gran Turismo will only run on Firmware 6.00. So if your on custom firmware, your out of luck. At this stage your forced to upgrade to official firmware 6.00 if you want to play the game on CFW. Also they have reported that PSP GT has no structured career mode, unlike other Gran Turismo titles. I find this strange and a bit disappointing to be honest.

I guess I’ll have to run the update and then Pandora + DCv8 to flash back to CFW to play my homebrew and emulators. That is till PSPGen release 6.00 GEN….(if they do)

Custom Firmware 6.00 m33 - No plans for release.

For those of you that have already posted and suggested there might be Custom Firmware 6.00 M33 on the way, will be slightly disappointed. As Alek, the admin of dark-alex.org has posted that CFW 6.00 M33 isn’t planned and not to ask for it.

Quoting Alek’s PSPWiki post:

Please, don’t ask here, the Blog, IRC, etc for a 6.00 M33, as it isn’t planned.

To be honest I expected as much, and I’ll tell why that is. Because really if you look at firmware 6.00. There is really nothing new apart from a few extra theme color’s. That in itself is not worth the effort to go and make Custom Firmware 6.00 M33 when really what is new Vs CFW 5.00 M33-6 ?

What are you ideas on this? Perhaps PSPGEN and GENyUS might go ahead and make Custom Firmware 6.00 GEN-A?
