Looks like Team Typhoon has found a way to run HEN (Homebrew enabler) on the PSP Go, Neon’s video above seems pretty leigit to me, how you could fake that I do not kow. He demonstrates 6.10 Typhoon CFW / HEN and running a homebrew emulator pico drive. And apparently this hack is at the Kernel level. Now as amazing as this all is Neon says its never going to be released…Never! I guess for fear that someone will work it to load ISO and then CFW? Still I wouldn’t mind fulling my PSP Go’s 16GB with a few decent emulators and games.

Also whats got thinking is this exploit part of FreePlay’s Save game exploit or something entirely different?

You might have read that if you buy a PSP Go before the 10th you get Grand Turismo free. Well it works! Today 5 days after registering we received our Free GT redemption code via email. Also since I’m in Europe at the moment. Where I brought my PSP Go, I managed to score another 3 free games too. So it total 4 games free with my PSP Go I brought.

But the free 3 game offer is for European residents only. But if your in the US or not in Europe. Why not try making a new PSN account when you register your PSP Go, but with a European country as your county of residence. Its worth a go?

Read the rest on how to get the 4 free games for your PSP Go here: PSP Go rewards works: We got 4 free games. Heres how

While we take our PSP Go through its paces for our review, one of the best features of the new PSP Go system is the pause feature (aka a save state). Which are saved to the internal 16GB flash memory, when you pause a game instead of exiting it. We posted a quick video example and a run down of the new feature over on our sister site PSP Go Hacks.

Perhaps one of the best features on the PSP Go. Instead of exiting a game when you hit the home button (PSP Logo button) we’re presented with another option. Rather than just exit there is now the option to pause the game. In other words, create a save state. An exact save of where you are in the game.

Update: FreePlay has just posted a Hello World user mode exploit video of the PSP Go running, “Hello Go” FreePlay’s way of proving to everyone that its not a fake and legit. Check out the video below. The PSP Go is Hacked, while not completely its a start in the right direction. PSP gOwned…lol

FreePlay has posted a very interesting YouTube video (Its embedded below). The PSP Go has been slightly hacked. An exploit has been found in by loading certain hacked save data files, in an unnamed game. Doing so Freeplay managed to run a text file on his PSP Go (A basic hello world) and also dump the PSP Go memory and flash0 to his Memory Stick M2. Flash0 isn’t writeable but flash1 is.

Apparently this is no new exploit, that it has been out there for some time and freeplay has used this to show the world that the PSP Go can be exploited and isn’t as secure as maybe Sony had thought.

Version text extracted as proof this is no Hoax:

release:6.10:
build:3745,0,3,1,0:builder@vsh-build6
system:54865@release_610,0x06010010:
vsh:p6501@release_610,v55286@release_610,20090918:
target:1:WorldWide

Note from FreePlay on this exploit:

Sony always seems to be desperately fighting against the homebrew community, trying to block us out of the systems we spent lots of our own cash on. Sadly, these guys really can’t catch a break. I’ve already managed to update an exploit to work on the Go.

HERE’S THE BASICS:

Yes, there are unreleased PSP exploits out there for various games. Yes, they still work, even on the PSP Go.

No, I didn’t discover this exploit. It’s been floating around for a while; it was just never used.

NO, I *DO NOT* plan on sharing any useful details about this. I want to see how long this will fester before Sony finally figures out how to fix it. That means I won’t be sharing the files or even naming the game I used to do it.

Yes, it works on all systems and all firmwares.

No, it’s not going to lead to custom firmware, piracy, or a Pandora for the Go. It can’t write to the flash, and it even seems to be unable to overwrite the system settings, which was always unblocked before on the older systems. It’s user-mode only.

Oh, and if you think this is a hoax… look at the video, and notice the version.txt file from OFW 6.10.

Were aware many other big gaming sites have posted preview/reviews, but here is our two cent on the PSP Go from an avid PSP gamers point of view. Someone who has had a PSP since its first release in 2005.

We have the European model PS-N1004 PB, PB is the colour piano black. Opening the box up, (which is a tad smaller than a PSP-3000 box) box we notice how tiny the PSP Go really is. Its wrapped up well and in a plastic protector. Boxed with a USB Power adaptor and USB cable, instructions, PSN network papers and Media Go CD. The cable doubles as both a charger and data cable, which is great.

The unit is a little lighter than our PSP-2000. And much smaller as you can see from the shots. I would compare this to our silver PSP-3000, but we no longer have it, you see its bricked and sold!. Messing with the version.txt and flash0 too much somehow we semi bricked it, noob I know!. Anyway we hope our PSP Go don’t suffer the same fate.

The PSP Go boots up with the same initial set up text as before, Set your language, Time and date etc. Lucky for us there are no dead or fixed pixels on our smaller PSP Go Screen. That’s a bonus as our PSP-2000 has 1 dead pixel and 2 fixed light colored pixels…The screen, its sharper than our PSP-2000 screen because its smaller and is more vibrant. Doesn’t seem to suffer the ghosting effects as our PSP-3000 unit. Our unit has firmware 5.70 loaded. Not 6.00 as we imaged it would. The motherboard is a TA-091.

Sliding the PSP Go open, we find the slide mechanism feels good. Nice spring feel too it. However it does move back and forth a tad. I mean the slightest bit. I hope it doesn’t loosen up any more. Holding the unit it feels ok, you defiantly notice its much smaller than the PSP-1000 to PSP-3000 form factor. The buttons and digital pad have less rebound in them and the analog stick has less range than the older PSP models. This I don’t like and I guess will take some getting use too.

Our localised Spanish PSP Go release doesn’t have anything loaded on the internal 16GB!! (14GB is free to the user) No demos, no videos. Nothing!! That is disappointing to say the least. Were charging the unit up now as the battery is flat and will post more on the unit and our own PSP Go Review, along with thing users really want to see. Like some battery benchmarks for one

We will be posting our full PSP Go review to our new sister site for the PSP Go, called PSP Go Hacks. Since were not sure of the PSP Go in terms of custom firmware and hacks. It could be going down a completely different path from the PSP-1000’s, PSP-2000’s and PSP-3000’s (Mod chips??). That’s why we have PSPGoHacks.com but this site will site cover all PSP’s.

A few quick photos we took of our PSP Go we are reviewing:

Dispute using google translate I didn’t see any comments on the new motherboard model number or the internal battery specs. Can anyone spot this?

Edit: Thanks to UltimaKillz
Its a Ta-091 motherboard present on this PSP Go and it has a 930ma battery. Which would be around 5 hours of playing or maybe less…

Eurogamer have been lucky enough to get their hands on a pre release PSP Go unit to have a quick hands on preview off. Some interesting things to note are the PSP Go model they previewed features Firmware 5.70. It may or may not be shipped with this unreleased firmware. Of course since Eurogamer have some friends in Sony which got them this pre release unit to preview. Its unlikely they would try the MOHH exploit just for fun on the PSP Go. Sony wouldn’t be impressed!

The pre-release sample of the new hardware arrived with an unreleased firmware revision: 5.70. This may or may not be the system software that ships with the retail unit coming on 1st October, but either way it seems certain new firmware is part of the launch. Regardless, 5.70 does feature a number of changes over the current 5.51 operating system, albeit somewhat slight.

Not surprisingly, it’s the Settings area of the XMB that gets the lion’s share of the changes:

    * Network Update is now listed as System Update, but, curiously, has the same options.
* Video Settings obviously doesn’t have the first four UMD-related toggles.
* System Settings now has a “Your Birth Date” option (second from top), and a “Display Panel Close Option” toggle, which allows you to set it to either “Standard” (goes to a clock graphic) or “Enter Sleep Mode”. Also “Battery Information” seems to be gone, as do UMD-related options, but there’s a “Format System Storage” option in addition to the usual Memory Stick format option.
* Power Save Settings loses the “Backlight Auto-Adjust” option for some reason.
* There’s a new “Bluetooth Device Settings” entry, which consists of a toggle for switching Bluetooth on and off and a “Manage Bluetooth Devices” entry.

All other elements of the XMB are identical to the current 5.51 firmware, aside from a new “System Storage” folder similar to the “Memory Stick” one, which, as you might imagine, allows access to the PSPgo’s internal flash storage. Hooking up the PSPgo to a Mac via USB, we find that the total available storage available to the user is 14.74GB, formatted in the FAT32 configuration (hence introducing a 4GB file-size limit – unlikely to be a concern to any PSP user). All this gives the PSPgo a marginal memory edge over a 16GB iPod Touch (mine comes in at 14.64GB total capacity).

We also measured file transfer times via USB, to the internal flash memory and also to the M2 memory card, using a 699MB file (715,647KB). The M2 transfer came in at 93 seconds, while the copy to the internal flash drive took 95 seconds, so effectively there’s next to nothing in it.

We dare them to try the MOHH exploit

Sony Officially announced that the PSP Go has the same CPU speed as the current PSP-1000 to PSP-3000 modesl right? Well a recent look at the documents submit to the FCC for the PSP Go application list it as having a CPU with the maxium clock speed of 480Mhz. That’s a 42% increase over the older models CPU speed. Its likely that Sony might be unlocking the PSP Go’s true CPU power at later stage. Much like they did with the PSP when firmware 3.50 officially unlocked 333Mhz for PSP developers, the first game taking advantage of this was God of War I think. Where we saw just how that etc 111Mhz could be used. So image what developers could do with an etc 147 Mhz more?

That of course means the PSP Go would have exclusive games after all…

Sony have been so kind as to release some official Press release photos of the new PSP Go, so we don’t have to look at it covered in fingerprints! Interesting to note the PSP Go Cradle. Sony have also mentioned that there will be some type of service that will allow older UMD titles to be available to download via PSN. Does this mean Sony plan to have a back catalogue of UMD releases available for the PSP Go? Unfortunatly no further details are available but it sounds like thats the plan. Will it be all old UMD titles or just platinum titles? Only Sony can answer that, but we hope its not just selected Sony titles that will be available UMD-less / downloadable format…

From Kotaku’s hands on experience with the PSP Go.

The PSP Go is much more narrow than the original, a tiny little device that features the same visual quality, just with a half-inch smaller LCD screen. That smaller hardware footprint means a much tighter control layout, with the analog control nub moved to the right of the digital directional pad, making for a wider reach with the left thumb.

That move to the right will take some getting used to. It doesn’t feel natural, but doesn’t necessarily feel bad. It’s just that my thumb reflexively went for the d-pad. That’s no good for a game like SOCOM Navy SEALs Fire Team Bravo 3, which uses the analog for player control.

On the more positive side, the PSP Go’s d-pad and face buttons—square, circle, triangle, X—feel more precise, more “digital” than the squishier controls on the original PSP. They feel really tight.

The new shoulder buttons, which now reside behind the slide up screen feel fine. Not particularly good, not particularly bad. Just something that’s going to take a little time adjusting to, if you’re used to the beefier L and R buttons on the current PSP.

Weight-wise, we really couldn’t tell how much lighter the PSP Go was. It was locked down and attached to a bulkier weight, so no feel impressions there. Same for the slider. That was locked down too.
