Sony posted a video walkthrough and a developer interview for the upcoming Resitance title on their site today. The video, with Sony Bend’s Chris Reese, shows gameplay and new improvements in the game. The control system will be using the analog stick to move the player, aiming with the face buttons (not much else you can do I guess). When you move the retiucle over an enemy, it locks on without locking the camera. There are some nice weapons and bosses etc.

The interview with John Garvin clears up a few things, such as Garvin’s favorite games (of course, Syphon Filter), and how the Resistance series will translate to the PSP.

Watch the video and read the interview on Sony’s Playstation Blog

As we promised, here is a review of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, written by our very own gbdallin.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

That’s right! Only two more days before it’s released, but I have had the chance to get a hold of this game, and I took it. The result: you get the review NOW!

Ohmygodohmygodohmygodohmygodohmygod....

Ok, so, let’s do this in sections, since there’s sooooo much information to cover. First section:

Story Mode

The cut scenes are great, in both quality and timing.

You begin the game actually as Darth Vader. To be honest, this was in my opinion the worst part of the game, because Darth Vader walks like he’s ninety years old. He’s super powerful, though, and it’s a great opportunity to learn how to use the control system. After running around killing wookies, the story somehow inserts itself, and you learn the origin of Vader’s secret apprentice. After a moderately macabre movie (I did that strictly for the alliteration), the game begins, for real this time, and you get to kill more stuff! (See screenshots below)

Yeah, I'm killing Storm Troopers (I have to keep my Sithy-ness a secret)

I pledge allegiance to Darth Vader (else he will Force Squish me)...

As you progress throughout the game, you will have the opportunity to learn new Force Powers and upgrade ones you already have. Learning new moves us facilitated primarily through story (boss battles), whereas upgrades are done through a point system. As you kill enemies, they drop little bundles of blue force upgrade credits. Credits pay for upgrades through either the pause screen or when you are in your ship (covered later).

You can read the rest of the review in our forum.

In 2 days, North America will be recieving the next game in the popular franchise, Star Wars. For Europe, it will be about 5 days. The game is obviously titled: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. What does this mean? Well, for starters it means a good PSP game will be in our hands soon, something we don’t get too often nowadays. For Star Wars fans, it means a new style of gameplay, a new storyline, and hopefully some good fun. We’ll be posting a review as soon as we get our hands on it.

Silent Hill , Konami’s popular survival horror game franchise . You should have heard of the series, the first game was released back on the Playstation in 1999 (Playable on the PSP now with the PSX emulator) its become quite popular, there is even a movie based on the series. Silent Hill has made its way to the PSP and I have just started to get into this game.

Silient Hill features some of the best PSP graphics to date

Silent Hill originals puts you in the shoes of Travis Grady, an unlucky trucker who has unfortunate stop over in the town of Silent Hill. Without getting into to much detail and spoiling the game for you, it starts much like the original Silent Hill 1 on the Playstation. You follow a girl through a misty town. Of course during so discover the horrors of the town itself, expect this time this is a prequel to the other games.

Items found can be equipped and used as weapons.

Gameplay is much like the other games control is straight forward, R Shoulder + X is too attach and the analog stick to control Travis. L Shoulder will centre the camera to where Travis is facing. Items found in the game can be equipped and used as weapons. I was blowin away by this game graphics. The trademark fog effect that is always part of Silient hill games is there, and the filter effect used on the PSP to do this is amazing. It looks great, what is also pushing the limits of this portable unit is the real time lighting and shadow effects. Travis has a torchlight which when used other objects cast very realistic shadows. The mirror effect is extremely well done too. This game has one of the best graphics yet on the PSP for sure. Just look at the screen shots I’ve taken !

The atmosphere is right up there with the other games, they recommend the use of headphones. For a good reason too. Ads to the fear, the music and sound effects keep you on the edge. Walking through a courpse gives that bloody squish sound and on screen bloody foot prints. The details in this game are at a very high level not seen in many PSP games. Your common gameplay elements are here, ingame Map, which I might add is very handy. Marked in red when key places are, saves, rooms entered, blocked doors and passageways. Handy if your stuck on just where to go next. Inventory Menu is accessed through the directional pad and makes for quick and easy weapon swapping.

I’m going to get back to playing this game. Which I think is one of the best yet I have played on the PSP in terms of quality and graphics level. Look for my full review in a short while to see if this game is really as good as my first impressions tell me.

Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII Preview follow up: Yesterday night I finally finished my Japanese version of Crisis Core FFVII. I wont give you any spoilers, only just to post that this is a great game and I really enjoyed it despite the fact it was in Japanese. Without a doubt in my mind once this is transalted and released outside of Japan, I’m 99% sure its going to be a big seller and reviewed as one of the top games for the Playstation Portable.

While I’m not going to review the game not in till I have the English version, I’m still going to give it a 9/10 ! Even if its in Japanese. My only gripe is it wasn’t long enough.. I must add that Square did a nice job tying it in with the first game. Really making you want to play FFVII again once you finish Crisis Core.

If you can’t wait for Final Fantasy Crisis Core to be translated to English, and don’t mind not completely understanding everything. I say go for it and get the JP Version.

Yes thats in-game engine graphics folks..

A week and a half ago I posted my first hands on preview of Crisis Core, since then I have been busy playing the game. Also getting myself stuck for sometime in Midgard! Frustrating, but then again everything is in Japanese so i expected to have a few translation issues…My Japanese is as fluent as my Russian. In other words non existent… As far as the story goes I do believe I’m following what is happening. Of course the fact that I played Final Fantasy VII all those years ago does help.

I’m now a good 14 hours into the game, level 26 and can say that despite being lost a bit for a while its pretty easy to follow. As I’m not going to spoil this for anyone out there who’s looking to play the USA release once its translated into English. (By the way, there is no know Crisis Core Japanese to English translation patch. If only!)

“There is no known fan, Crisis Core – Japanese to English translation patch”

So far I’m 100% impressed and like Final Fantasy VII its hard to put it down and stop playing. Even though the game is a prequel set before Cloud decided to join avalanche, It plays very different. Firstly its real time battles as you all know. But you only play as Zack, there is no 4 party group this time round. And by the looks of it, no airship, chocobos and world map you can freely explore. I’m dissappointed in a way that it lacks that exploration feel like FFVII had. You do see other areas of the world, when taking the mission quests. This is mainly for experience, too meet other characters and gain Items i think.

Zack fights alone, no 4 party battles in Crisis Core.

So far I’ve visited many of the places we have seen before in FFVII, and Square-Enix have even included little details from the first game in and around Midgard that you will remember. (No Sploiers) But its nice too see. The game has a more mature feel to it, slightly. So far I haven’t seen any talking cat/doll things etc (The things the Japanese love in games) I guess square knows we are all 10 years older since FFVII and have focused on the fact that most of us would have played FF7.

The Materia system is back, here I have had a few difficulties with what spell is what. But green is offensive magic, purple is a modifier (+20%hp for example), light green is healing , yellow extra attack skills or steal etc. Its easy to follow but its a bit of hit and miss as to what green materia is flare or gravity. Its all trial and error. In the end I think I know what flare, barrier and cure is in Japanese!!

Well I’ll leave it at that for now, better get back to playing the game. Just to add that if your a FFVII fan . Then this game is worth your while and your not going to be disappointed. I can see when I review this game once I have an English copy that its will be a 9/10 game for the PSP.
