PSP Developer ne0h has released an update to Xplora, a PSP file management utility. This updated release now has an option to sort homebrew games and application on the memory stick. Also a complete text editor and support for OGG Vorbis audio.
Finally some good news (and not fake) in regards to finding a working hack for the PSP-3000. A user-mode buffer overflow exploit was discovered by MaTiAz. He has found a vulnerability with-in the GripShift save game loading routine. What does this mean? This could be the stepping stone which will lead the way to full PSP-3000 hacks, homebrew and custom firmware. Lets hope this is another loop hole like GTA:LCS and Lumines was for the PSP-1000 back in 2005-6. (If you can remember back that far!)
Need proof its real? Just check the video above and no, its not another fake. This time its legit!
GripShift has a buffer overflow vulnerability when loading savegames. The savegame contains the profile name which can be easily used to overwrite $ra. The savegame file is pretty big (25kB) so you have lots of space to put your code there. I wrote a simple blob of code to paint the framebuffer completely white (to just indicate that arbitrary code is running). The return address is located at offset 0xA9 in the file. In this poc it points to 0×08E4CD50 (which is only a few bytes after the return address), and the code starts at 0xCC in the file.
It was tested on 4.01M33-2 with US version of GripShift (ULUS10040), and psplink.prx, usbhostfs.prx and deemerh.prx loaded (also without psplink and usbhostfs). The decrypted savegame (sorry, couldn’t [be bothered to] get Shine’s savegame tool working so it’s in plaintext form) is in the SDDATA.BIN form which Hellcat’s Savegame-Deemer produces (thanks to him, if the program didn’t exist I wouldn’t have bothered with this). Just copy the ULUS10040SAVE00 directory to /PSP/SAVEPLAIN/ and run the game. EDIT: yeah, don’t forget to have Savegame-Deemer working, duh.
If your in the need to make a Magic Memory Stick (MMS) in a hurry then Rain’s UltraLite MMS Maker for 5.00 M33-4 (Dcv8) is the answer for you. With this windows program you’ll be able to quickly and easliy make a MMS required for flash a PSP to custom firmware 5.00M33-4, when used in conjuction with a Pandoras Battery (Aka tool battery).
Some of you might have imagined all your Christmas’s came at once when you saw that some large PSP sites had posted a video that seemed to good to be true? Of a PSP-3000 / TA-088v3 being hacked on video. I thought I better break it too you since those sites have yet to do so. Its been proven a fake. Sorry its been reviewed in detail and it clear its a fake, the memory card starts out as a 1GB but magically appears later as a 16gb when removed?
PSP-3000 hacked video circulating around the web is indeed fake.
Source of the fake video? PSPGen - Shame on them for posting what is clearly a fake video of a PSP-3000 being hacked without checking its validity first.
Update: The video on YouTube has been removed by the owner……..
Good news for classic emulator fans. OopsWare has ported Final burn Alpha to the PSP. What is FBA4PSP? It’s an emulator for PGM, Cave, CPS1/2/3, Seta, Sega, Konami on PSP. It emulates MC68000/Z80 based arcade games.
Not much in the way of PSP news. But here’s something for the old rumor mill thanks to Eurogamer.
Sony plans to refresh the PlayStation Portable product line with a PSP-4000 model in late 2009 and launch a true successor - a PSP2, if you like - later.
Publishing sources, speaking to Eurogamer, were unable to provide any further detail on next year’s update, which will presumably follow this year’s PSP-3000 in taking an iterative approach. The PSP-3000 launched this October and followed a 2000-series model, the first Slim & Lite, in September 2007.
Even fewer details were available on the PSP successor, but we’re told that developers are already working on games.
Sony has not ruled out either scenario, despite SCEE president David Reeves’ assertion in MCV last week that “there are currently no plans for a PSP2″. “I go to Tokyo quite a lot and no one has referred to it - I think they have their hands full at the moment,” he said, non-committally.
Sony UK told Eurogamer today that it would not comment on rumour and speculation.
